Outstanding Book
Outstanding book by an authority on ADHD. Not just for parents - has easy to access info for people with ADHD and their families. I have read many of Russell Barkley's books, and this is one of the most acccessible for understanding how to manage symptoms of ADHD.

Product not as described
The book is excellent but Amazon claims it’s spiral bound & it’s not. It has a standard paperback binding.

Very in-depth and science-focused
This book goes into the science of adhd. It’s very in-depth. I love it, but if you’re looking for a light, quick read, this isn’t it. If you’re looking to understand all aspects of adhd and why it is what it is, this is a great read.

Great book. Recommended by psychologist
I’ve read a lot of books and websites but this is the most clear and concise guide out there. Great info, lots of hope, positive and realistic. I underlined so many things. This has helped our family tremendously with how clear and concise the info is

Great book
This was the first ADHD book I've read, recommended by a top local therapist. My initial reaction to the first few pages was I felt they alone were worth the price of the book. The next chapters gave great explanations to help me to really understand what ADHD is and isn't for the first time. It became a major foundational block of my "understanding" and acceptance of people on the Executive Function Developmental Deficit Spectrum. The application section (the point system) wasn't as great for my case due to a comorbid diagnosis, but I assume it could work for many kids. After catching up on other books, I may continue with other books by Barkley. I highlighted so much of this, sometime times whole pages, and will re-read those parts, and maybe the whole book again sometime.

Evidence-Based and Informative
Russell A. Barkley is one of the top authorities on ADHD. Our pediatrician recommended him and I'm extremely glad he was able to point is in the right direction. This book is evidence-based and a reliable source, which is a refreshing change from a lot of books I've found on the subject of ADHD (and parenting children with ADHD) that are often filled with a lot of unsupported anecdotes and pseudoscience. There is a helpful guide in the back for further reading filled with books that have been vetted by the author, as well.

Lots of tips, very comprehensive, easy to read. I have a bit of a personal issue however with the tone and style as it tends to be negative and dramatic, pointing out all risks and dangers related to ADHD, leaving less to no space for how to turn some of the ADHD traits into something positive. There are many “successful” people whose achievements are in parts due to / thanks (or at least related to) to their ADHD. Role models are important too, not just discipline and systems to make the disorder more manageable. It seems that children with ADHD are reduced to being problematic kids and nothing else. I like that the book is full of practical tips and techniques well described that are easy to implement. On the other hand I feel I would go crazy with so many systems were imposed on me, especially if I were a teen. So I think while there’s good inspiration in the techniques and practical approach, I find it all a bit too controlling in the end. Also in my experience the old-fashioned authoritative methods and again the very controlling approach that is suggested in this book is very likely to damage the relationship if applied to systematically or even be contra productive if the child is a bit rebellious and sensitive, which will typically be the case of the vast majority of people affected by ADHD.
