Wooden Three-Player Chess - 12 Inches - with Foldable Board, Handcrafted Playing Pieces, and Felt-Lined Storage

I just received this this morning, a day later than it was supposed to. But that doesn't really matter too much, and was probably more Amazon's fault. It looks great, the board is beautifully made. There are some imperfections in where the borders line up and the sizes of the squares, but that's to be expected from a handmade product. The pieces are also great. Very simple, but that isn't a bad thing. Some of the pieces have a bump on the bottom, under the felt, that causes the pieces to wobble. Some of the felt appears to have hardened glue on the bottom, which prevents them from sliding across the board properly. But again, handmade, so everything isn't going to be perfect and consistent. From the pictures, it looked like the borders between squares were raised above the board, but they are not. They are recessed, and don't interfere with the pieces sliding around at all. One thing I was seeing in other reviews was that the set didn't include instructions. Mine included an instructional pamphlet, so I'd assume that all of them do now. But honestly it isn't too much trouble to just google "How to play three player chess." I don't personally think that should be worth a whole star, but to each there own. Another thing I saw in a review was that it was "smaller than expected." The title says "Wooden Three Player Chess - 11," and the description is very exact on the size of the board. They aren't hiding anything from you. It is exactly as they say it is. One last thing, I wish it was clear where the red queen goes. The white queen goes on white, and the black goes on black, but I don't know which color the red queen goes on. In the picture, it goes on white, but the colors are in the wrong order in that picture so who knows.

I played this a couple of times with my children, some of which are better at chess than me. It is an interesting experience, each of us played a terrible game, with blunders that would have never happened in two-player chess. One gets so focused on one opponent that one pays insufficient attention how it opens up to attacks by the other. This specific game board is a bit small, but still playable; there is a tradeoff between storage size and playing size. The figures are a bit less than half the size of a normal tournament chess board, and the spaces in the middle especially get a bit tight, but one can still play it. Worth the experience if you have several chess players in the family.

I was surprised how small this board actually is for 3 people. Otherwise perfect for those who know and love the game of chess. 3 Generations of chess players will be on this board which makes it special. Only wish it were bigger for the price.

It's smaller than it looks, but that's my fault. Very pretty and well made. edit: one of the hinges is already broken from one time casual use. It's really weak.

This is single handedly one of my favorite gifts I have ever gotten a loved one! This is the 2nd one I’ve ordered, both were the same size among their available sizes, and both are clearly slightly unique due to its hand-made characteristics. Both of course are the same product, but made with the same high-quality materials and with LOVE guys! Love! O___O. The first 2 were gifts for loved ones last Christmas. I am Absolutely getting a 3ed one in the future to have in my personal collection of games. I might make mine a step-up in size though. Still not sure yet. ^__^ My only issue about both experiences Receiving them in the mail was the absolutely LACK of packing material! Unfortunately NO packing material was used to ship these beautiful boardgames and I couldn’t be more thankful for them arriving NOT damaged at all! >__< So I REALLY hope my personal piece is packed correctly and arrives safe and sound.

Birthday present for son who wanted a 3 player chess. We already had a regular and 4 player. We live on a boat so size matters. This is a great size for packing up while not being too small that you knock over other pieces trying to move. Built well overall but, I think their letterer needs a steadier hand. Some letters and numbers look very *freehand* and IMHO it detracts a little from the rest which is very nice. Son was super happy with it as I’m more critical than him.

This is a piece of crap, it weighs about nothing and the wood is like cardboard. Not even close to what I thought 42 bucks would buy. I could have bought this at a toy store. I am returning this.

Onlookers were, indeed, curious. Lots of fun, but very different. A must try. A little expensive, but likely worth it.

The game is a blast - it adds the complexity of teaming up against the leading player and the ability to betray each other. Moreover, even if you are good at chess, the fact that the pieces can now move in a new fashion can make even experienced players stumble and lose their pieces, meaning that the game is now more fair for any skill level. I have only one small drawback to note: I've bought a version with a small piece size, and it is sometimes uncomfortable to move them without kicking some other piece down. However, because of their size, it is easier to put them in a bag in case you need to travel somewhere or in case you go camping with your friends. Overall, great product. Didn't think I would have that much fun with it. Recommend!

When the wife offered me a three-way this wasn't quite what I was hoping for. Actually I had never seen one of these before and didn't want to spend too much in case I hated the game. The board is medium sized but genuine wood with three nice sets of wooden pieces and the inside is velvet lined. The whole thing looks good quality. Pieces are slightly light to my feeling without a bias. They play well and the 'squares' and lines are quite clearly marked which is a big help as getting used to the standard moves on a three-way board is a bit strange. Fortunately a set of basic rules and move-guide is included - worth reading around on the internet too though. Three way is a completely different game. Perhaps not relaxing as you are fighting on two fronts at once but certainly challenging and refreshing. At this price even if you don't take to the game having a set laid out for display makes an interesting talking point. Well worth having a go at this price.
