Hello, does the tin lid come off completely like the large round danish cookie tins, or does it have hinges?

The lid / top is beautifully fitted. If tits snug/tight but at the same time it is not difficult to open it. Once you open it you can take it off completely just as you said, like the round Dutch cookie cans. The can is made of very good quality sturdy metal that is not flimsy or easily bent. Easily made shipment to my home without any dents or kinks. It is beautifully painted and it does look exactly like in the picture but.. in person it gives the aura of Italy's eternal greatness. Just magical. It is a classic that I always buy for my family and as a gift. It is HUGE gorgeous can. It is about 8 inches high and just about the size of the shorter side of the printer paper page .. just to give you an idea. I love to use the can for storage once the cookies are gone. I have few of them and they are fabulous container for all things "kitchen" or "arts and crafts". This can is a statement in its own right. Never too many of them.

Are these the original wrappers that fly when lit?

As of 12/5/2019, these are the cheaper, heavier wrappers that do not fly.

Why are these being marketed as 16oz?! The 6” tin of miniature cookies is only 4.4oz!

I don't understand the question! I bought a tin of these for last christmas. The tin measures 6" x 6" x 6 3/4" and does contain 16 oz of cookies.

Is a larger size can available?

I think this is a large as it comes. It's at least 6" x 6" x 6". May even be 8".
