I'm really happy I bought this feeder
I LOVE this product! I put it pretty close to our living room window for optimal viewing and it's delivered hours of entertainment for both the cats and the humans in the house. I wasn't sure if the squirrels would understand it, so I put a few peanuts on top of the flap on the first day, and the squirrels had it figured out within the first hour. I absolutely love watching the squirrels come and go through the day. There is a bit of a mess of peanut shells under the feeder since they stop and unshell there sometimes, but as long as you're ok with that, or use unshelled peanuts, you'll enjoy this for sure. I was very impressed with the quality and ease of installation.

Squirrels love it and I laughed until my cheeks hurt!
Enormously entertaining! I took out the screw that holds the plastic front down just to let them get the nuts and seeds from underneath and get used to there being food in the feeder. Replaced the screw and boy were they agitated when they couldn't figure out how to get the nuts. They thumped their feet, furiously swished their tails, and hurled squirrel obscenities toward the house. I propped up the lid with a couple of peanuts, and that showed them the light! No more squirrel invective, just happy little "piggies". The bluejays are ticked off now...

Fun while it lasted
This feeder lasted about 6 weeks, by which time our northern Illinois squirrels destroyed it. They learned quickly how to lift the lid and reach in, even the youngest little guys. I don't know if these squirrels are ultra smart because they also quickly discovered that chewing off most of the wood lid and the top few inches of the plexiglass front makes reaching the food super easy. Now we have very fat lazy squirrels and food that's not protected by the elements, but it doesn't last long with our greedy guys.

I set up two of these and it's been so fun watching them figure out how it works
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. ย Finally my birds can get to their bird feeder. I set up two of these and it's been so fun watching them figure out how it works. It took my squirrels a little bit to figure it out but ever since it's been wildliy popular in my backyard

Variable Quality but Good Customer Service
The left side of the feeder I received was split with a chunk of wood missing. The clear plastic front was streaked/etched with what may have been a solvent? This poor quality product should have been scrapped, not shipped. We'll see what the replacement looks like.12/31/19 UPDATES:The replacement from Amazon is of better quality. No issue with the wood, but there's still streaking and residue on the clear plastic. I tried removing this with warm water and dish soap, but that didn't work. This replacement seems sticky and gummy, compared to the original which appeared to be "etched" as if exposed to a solvent.Kaytee is sending a replacement clear plastic piece for the front. The streaking is apparently caused by cedar sap and how much of it is transferred to the plastic varies depending on environmental conditions during storage and transit.Responsive, Polite customer service from Lisa at Kaytee.

Works great and is highly entertaining!
I love this squirrel feeder... just love it!! My husband put it up on the fence outside my work/office window (I work from home) and he said it was super easy to install. Watching the squirrel's figure out how to get the lid up the first few times is just too cute for words... and highly entertaining. One squirrel even went all the way inside the box to get the very last peanut. I literally laughed out loud watching him/her pop back up with his/her prize! Great stress relief for me throughout my work day. :) Attached is a picture of one furry friend using the box to scope out my fur baby (our dog Benji) who was out in the backyard. (Sorry it's so blurry... I had to zoom in with my phone to get a good shot.)

An entertaining way to feed the squirrels.
I've purchased two of these feeders. I bought the second because the first one got sweet away in a massive flood last year. But I later found the original feeder washed up downstream a few months later and it was still usable! So, plus one for sturdiness. I didn't give it a full five stars because the front plastic does yellow and crack relatively quickly. It didn't take long for my squirrels to figure out how to use this and the see doesn't last long because of that. But it's still fun watching them come list the lid. I know when they are feeding because I can hear the sound of the lid dropping back down on the lower wooden piece between nibbles.A couple best practices I learned:1) Be sure the unit is mounted level or even slightly leaning forward. If not, they learn to prop the lid up and just empty out the feeder.2) Hang it above deer height. I had one come through and gnaw away at the box trying to get to the seed. Of course, that makes it harder to refill so you'll have to weigh the risk.Overall, I'm happy with this purchase and would recommend it.

Most Fun You Can Have With Squirrels!
These are THE BEST! I bought two and filled one with whole peanuts and one with a nutty trail mix for squirrels. Hung them on the fence and as an earlier reviewer suggested, put some of the bounty on the ledge and the roof. Within 30 minutes they were in use by the greys, and busy ALL DAY LONG! No TV needed here. We have pure entertainment watching all the ways they maneuver on, around and in the boxes, and my bird feeders are finally available for the birds. I refill the squirrel boxes at least twice a day. Not wanting to encourage night-time feeders, I stop the refills in the evening. You can see from the pictures what happens then. "HEY! HEY! CHUBBY BUT STILL HUNGRY SQUIRRELS HERE!" One squirrel has the perfect solution to being the first in line for food in the morning. She sleeps in it at night! Scared me the first time I saw it. I thought she'd crawled in there and died. Thankfully not! So as you can see, these boxes can do double-duty. They are sturdy, made of natural cedar and look great. LOVE them! The only complaint I have is the price. After I bought these, I found the exact boxes in our local hardware store for $18.99. I guess that's the price we pay for late-night shopping.

Very sturdy, yet to attract many squirrels.
My mom's boyfriend accidentally headbutted it while looking down mowing the lawn. Over an inch long cut on his forehead, and the feeder didn't budge an inch. Hasn't attracted any squirrels yet, but we know it's built well enough to last till it does.

Squirrels can't remove plexiglass front!
The plexiglass front is held in place on one side by a screw, thus the front won't come off and all the peanuts fall out! I have the feeder attached to a tree and can easily see the squirrels having a meal, quite enjoyable to watch! The feeder has the right amount of area for the squirrel to stand and lift the lid to get his reward. The only strange thing with this squirrel feeder was that the plexiglass front had a sticky, gooey, sap like mess on it, had to use GooGone and elbow grease to get it off!

The feeder I bought initially was poorly and cheaply made. The new one is so much better.
Bought another and yes cheaper feeder you sell. On the old one The hinges were secured with very small screws. And the lid had no restrictions to itโs lifted limit. As such the squirrels were able to flip it over and the screws failed to hold the lid. As such the critters Notre it off. I was able to apply a string restricted to the lid so it only raised so much. And used longer screws. But I bought the better feeder because it is only time till the cheaper model fails again.

works well but wish there was an easy way to scoop out seed shells
works well but wish there was an easy way to scoop out seed shells. The plastic doesn't move and I hung the feeder on a tree trunk so I have to reach in and pull out shells. Like the size and shape and the squirrels do too

The squirrels figured this out right away and love it! Unfortunately I have a family of 5 and they went through the peanuts in no time. Within 20 minutes it was empty! I now just throw a handful out my window each morning otherwise they eat them too fast :)
