Worked great for a four-hour round trip camping expedition
I was skeptical due to the very low price of this item, but as we only needed it for a 2 hour car ride (each way) we were willing to chance it, figuring if it totally disintegrated by the time we got home it would still be worth the savings over a hard-sided carrier. The bag worked fine, held our tent, camp chairs, air mattresses and a few other items, making it possible to fit everything we needed. It made it there and back and seems to be in fine shape, so we will definitely be able to use it next year as well. It didn't rain, so I can't speak to the waterproof quality, but we packed only things that it wouldn't matter if they got wet, and stashed in a few large garbage bags in case we needed extra protection on the way home. We have only side rails on our car, but this strapped on just fine, and didn't make any flapping noises or noticeable drag. Overall I would not hesitate to recommend it for a shorter car trip. 3 years later...just got back from another camping trip with the cargo carrier. It is still in great shape (we do about 2-3 camping trips a year), still holds a lot, still hasn't rained on it. We even found that you can scoot it over to one side and still fit the kayak on top of the car if you use the vertical type holders for the kayak. This is on a CR-V which is small for and SUV. Very happy with the purchase and continue to be.

Great alternative to pricier carriers!
I purchased this Cargoloc Roof Top Cargo Bag for a move. We moved from Upstate NY to Southern Georgia at the end of November this year. Most of our stuff went in a moving van, but we needs to pack clothes and necessities in our car for the time between our arrival and out moving van arrival. Most of the stuff had to go into the cargo bag as my 8 passenger SUV would be transporting myself, four teens, two labrador retrievers, and a cat. Needless-to-say, there was not a lot of room inside the passenger area for cargo. I expected this to be a cheap bag that would probably be ripped or torn in the ride. I half expected it to fall off my car. When we got it, we were astounded at the size of it. It is huge. It held one large suitcase, and four smaller carry on suitcases. It held a bag of shoes, a Thirty-One Large Utility Tote, Makeup bags, bathroom needs, plus a few other odds and ends. I was shocked how much we fit into it. We packed it on the floor of my kitchen, and easily transported it onto the top of my Saturn Outlook. The straps were sturdy and easy to use. I tucked them up under themselves to keep them from flapping around. This does attach to a roof rack. We drove the entire trip from UpState NY to southern Georgia without a single problem. The straps stayed taut, and everything in it remained dry, even though we drove through snow in the north and rain in the south. We bought this figuring it would last for one trip, and then be garbage after being beaten by wind and weather for nearly 1000 miles. But when we arrived, there was neither a rip or a tear in it. We were very surprised since we chose to buy this at a fraction of the cost of many other cargo carrier alternatives! I expect to get several uses out of this for future travel.

Great Value!!
Bought this bag for an 1800 mile roundtrip family vacation. For $34.00 w/free shipping, I couldn't be happier. This product performed well above my expectations. I had read many a bad review regarding "Thule" brand cargo bags priced $160.00+ so I was a bit leary of this bag made by a company I had never heard of for so little money. Once it arrived I was immediately impressed by the bag's construction. There was no seperate liner on the inside like I had read about with so many other bags, there was a rubber film actually fused to the inside of the bag for water proofing. The straps seemed sturdy and anchored well to the body of the bag and there was a flap that covered the zipper to prevent water from seeping in. Though impressed with the bag at first glance I was still quite skeptical. The weather was supposed to be clear and sunny for the 15 hour drive.. but of course.. it downpoured for the last five hours, the rain was sideways and coming down in sheets.. Upon arriving at our destination I just knew all of our stuff had to be soaked!! I was shocked to find only one "casualty" in the cargo bag. The bottom of my wife's clothing bag which was packed right next to the zipper (on the side the wind was coming in from) had a narrow strip of moisture right where the zipper was. Everything in her bag was bone dry though. I had no worries making the 900 mile trip back home, light rain off and on the whole way. Not a drop of moisture inside the bag. Great Product!

Does the job well, few nits
While on vacation we realized that we were going to need more space after our purchases and I ordered this carrier and had it sent to the hotel. My one major concern was that my SUV had a roof rack, but no crossbars as shown in the picture. I was worried that the carrier would slide back due to the wind. As a result, I actually went to Home Depot and bought a pack of 2 load straps to secure the front and back of the carrier while on the roof. In the end, the carrier performed very well and everything got home safely after about a 500 mile drive. I'm not sure the additional straps were needed. Now about the actual carrier. It's basically a large nylon bag with a zipper around three sides. The inside has some "rubberized" treatment to make it more waterproof. It's funny how the box says "waterproof" but inside the instruction sheet says that it's only water resistant and you should put thing in plastic bags inside if you want to be sure it stays dry. One thing that was disappointing was the bottom of the bag. In the description it says there's EVA plastic on the bottom. I though this would serve as some kind of padding for the roof of the car. Well, the bottom is just nylon like the rest of the bag. There was no evidence that the bottom of the bag was any different that the rest of the bag. Clean your roof well to avoid any scratches from dirt trapped between the bag and your roof. The straps are not attached to the bag at all. They are basically a "tic-tac-toe" pattern with the fasteners at each end. The nylon material looks like something you would find on a medium quality luggage or computer bag strap. I thought they were a bit "light weight" for the task. In the end they appeared to do fine, but I would have hoped for a more heavy duty grade of material. This is why I got the extra straps at Home Depot with their metal spring loaded clasps. So thestrap is run though 8 loops (one for each leg of the straps) on the bag to secure it. If there was to be a failure, the loops would be the critical point. I'm glad to report that after our trip, the loops looked fine, but I would check this often on a longer trip. Finally, here's a tip when packing the bag. I tried to make it more aerodynamic by placing lower items up front and taller items in the back - forming a spoiler of sorts and having the wind press down on the bag while moving. When situated correctly, the zipper closure ends up at the back. This is to prevent wind from getting into the bag and causing drag and other problems. However with the larger items in back, it was really difficult to close the bag. Imagine closing an overstuffed suitcase except that you can't really sit on it while you zip it closed. I ended up re-packing with larger stuff in center and some softer items (clothes bags, etc) in the back so that I could pull the bag shut more easily while I zipped. While driving, I never noticed any adverse affects of having the bag on the roof. I did notice a slight increase in wind noise and also it seemed that I was getting about .4 mpg less. My SUV normally gets 19.7 mpg on the highway. After the 500 mile trip, it was reading 19.4 mpg. So that was negligible. I drove an average of 65-75 the whole way. Got up to 80 on a downhill section, but then slowed when I saw how fast I was going. Again, no evidence of shifting or any problems at all after the trip. Everything stayed put. At the end of the day, the bag did what it was supposed to and did it well. There were a few things I would be concerned with given the quality of the straps and the 4 loops on the bag being the only thing keeping it down, but in the end it was fine. I may not even have needed the extra straps I bought. Since my car had a anchor point midway in the side roof rails, I was able to fasten the straps in a way that prevented shifting. I'll include some pictures so that people can see how I fastened it. For the price though, it was a very good deal. That's why I rated it 4 stars. For 5 stars it would need 1) higher quality strap and loop material and 2) some kind of padded bottom. P.S. I can't figure out how to upload pictures as it's not offered as an option when viewing this product. So I have placed the pictures on my blog. Good value for a soft luggage carrier for a Toyota RAV4
Very good product. My stepson had one and i liked it so much i bought one for myself. Fits nicely on a Toyota RAV4 with racks. I prefer the soft cover. Easy to take off when you don't need it. Very reasonable price.

A great roof carrier
I purchased this for a trip from MI to FL. When I received this I was very pleased with the quality of the product. Lots of strap tie downs (4) and a very nice soft bottom. On the trip to Florida we ran in heavy rain all day the first day. On Arrival in FL I was very pleased that there was only a very small amount of water in the bottom of the bag, just a few drops. On the return trip we ran through some very severe weather, Tropical rain where you could not see, heavy rain and then large hail. This time the bag was completely dry inside. I think that the first time it got wet it helped to swell and seal up the seams. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a car top carrier. the quality is there and the price just cant be beat. I zip tie the left over strap from adjustment to the other strap after I coil it up so that it does not come loose and flap on the roof. Works very well. never heard anything up there.

The product held our items securely but was not waterproof ...
The product held our items securely but was not waterproof as indicated on the box. Most of our items got soaked. The 2nd time we put trash bags around them and they still got soaked. Christmas gifts were irreparably soaked and so was the luggage and the clothes in it. Could not figure out where the water entered in but it rained heavily the 2 times we used it. So, if it doesn't rain then you are golden. Otherwise, I guess you get what you pay for.

Good price and serves the purpose
We had 2 families went on a skiing trip for 4 days in 1 minivan. In order to fit all the neccesities for 8 people we need extra cargo space. The hard shell ones seen in Sears/Kmart are so expansive and I'm not sure how many times I will need it, except this once. This item is within reasonable price range. The material is a thick canvas-like coated fabric and is tough and sturdy. It has the matted bottom (both sides) and keep the carrier and its contents stable during driving (even on highway). Since the reviews mentioned it may not be 100% waterproof, I had all things in smaller waterbroof duffel bags. This also makes the loading/unloading easier. We did not encounter down pouring rain however we had heavy snow on the way back. Everything inside the carrier were dry. I believe the carrier can hold up to some light drizzle but just in case I suggest you use the 5-gallon zip lock bags to pack all your stuff. They are not only serve as space saving packing (roll up to squeeze out the air) and also keep the content dry. We do not have the cross bars for our roofrack. We just tied the front and back ties to the sides and it worked. Make sure you don't have loose ribbon, it makes very annoying noise on highway. We have to drive to a rest area to thread the loose end around the tie and knott it.

Great overall product
i bought this Cargo bag prior a fishing/road trip. I was set on a Jeep Patriot, We put in 4 sport bags and fishing gear and had some room to spare. the build quality is fenomenal, we had 30 mm of rain pouring on us and lets say i was driving on speed limit from Montreal to cap cod (took us 8h including traffic) and not a single drop of water got in. It's as easy as strap it and forget about it you wont feel a thing no weight shift or air drag. I highly recommend it to anyone planing a trip and want to have that extra cabin space and confort.

Great for the price
Great for the price, is well made seems tough, haven't used it in the rain yet but put my things in waterproof bags anyway. Obviously you have to empty it out each night when on the road unless you trust your fellow man/woman not to walk off with your undies, which is a hassle. Takes a while to get all the straps adjusted nicely but if you repack it exactly the same way each time you can only do this once. Spend some time to tie off all the loose strap ends well or as soon as you hit the highway it's bbbrrrrrrrrrr whap whap whap until you can stop and sort it out. Packs up small so easier to store than a box. For the price it's awesome. If you go to the cabin every weekend maybe invest in a box for ease and security but if you only need it once or twice a year then the drawbacks are worth dealing with to save $700.
