SMEG 2 Slice Toaster with 6 Presets and Defrost Function and Removable Crumb Tray TSF01SSUS, Stainless Steel

I've had this toaster for 6 1/2 years now. The best toaster I’ve ever had. As a toaster, it toasts consistently and the darkness control can be trusted to produce the same degree of toasting every time. What I find special is the build quality. The paint job is worthy of a car, thick and little to nothing sticks to it. The top piece of chromed steel (perhaps stainless steel) is absent of any bluing, corrosion or discoloration of any sort. Despite the copious amounts of sugars, honey, jams, etc Americans must have in their packaged breads. This top piece cleans easily and with a occasional spray of alcohol or window cleaner, looks like new. The design consists of a couple of well fitting pieces with rounded corners and no nooks and crannies. A snap to wipe off. This gets used every day of the week. 6 1/2 years. Flawless, still looks like new. Still works like new. So we're back to a well functioning toaster. And I'm back to this is probably the best toaster I've ever had. - Pros: Its very well made. Tank-like build, excellent paint, high quality non-staining/bluing chrome and stainless. It toasts evenly and reasonably quickly. Handles bagels better than any toaster I've ever had. Though not as good a a toaster oven than can reach high temps (not many anymore). The dial settings work and are consistent. We have not moved the dial from its "2" setting since we bought the Smeg. It always produces the same lightly toasted bread. Very easy to clean and the quality of the crumb tray slide is amazing, press button, it glides out. Well sealed, as in no crumbs leak out onto my black granite counters. Whoever sees it comments favorably. Excellent accessory available to warm croissants, buns, etc. - Cons: Larger than most. Difficult to dig smaller diameter (baguettes) out of the slots. The bread rack does not rise very much when toasting is completed. Its a real pain getting out bread that can't be reached. Why: because that nice quality, thick steel holds in heat and its deep. Toast tongs don't have sufficient room to spread and grab. I bought this for its looks. At this point its the best toaster I've ever owned.

I don’t usually get excited about kitchen appliances, but this Smeg 2-Slice Toaster has genuinely impressed me. First off, the gloss black finish is gorgeous—sleek and neutral, it blends effortlessly with the rest of my kitchen, even though I don’t have a retro-themed space. It has that vintage charm Smeg is known for, but still feels perfectly at home in a more modern, contemporary setting. Functionally, it’s just as impressive. The range of browning levels is spot on—I can go from lightly toasted to deeply golden with total consistency. What really stood out for me, though, is the bagel function. I love to toast everything bagels, that has garlic and other seasonings on the side, and with other toasters I’ve ended up with burnt, bitter garlic more times than I can count. But this one toasts just the cut side, leaving the outside warm but not burnt, so no acrid or acidic taste—just perfect every time. It’s surprisingly satisfying to use too—solid build, intuitive controls, and it just feels like a quality product. A small luxury, maybe, but one I use every day. Highly recommend!

I was going to return this before trying it as I read the reviews AFTER buying it; then I cancelled the return and decided to give it a go. Let me say, the first couple of days I toasted one-sided items, and it was working well - thus, my decision to cancel my return. THEN, today I put in regular bread for toasting, and lo and behold, it toasts more rapidly on one side, so if you want both sides toasted, you can expect one side to be burnt. The other side will be ok. If you toast to a normal setting you would like, you get one side toasted perfectly, and the other side barely toasted at all. I'm going to have to return it. What is nice about it: The toaster is big, the color is nice, it looks great on the counter, the holes are wide. I really like it and want to keep it, but it's not going to happen since it doesn't do what it is supposed to do very well - TOAST. My reason for buying a new toaster is/was just this reason My other one only toasts one side of the bread, so why would I spend this kind of money for the same problem. My search is on! If you know of a toaster that works well in the "toasting" department, give me a shout out. UPDATE: 5/14/17 - Well, my old toaster finally had to go and because I loved this one & it's look I decided to give it another try. The last one must have been defective for sure; this one works fabulously! So Far, that is. And I have high hopes that it will continue. I love this toaster. I would recommend it to anyone; just know that if it doesn't toast properly out of the box, ask for an exchange as you probably just got one that was defective (as I did the first go around). BUT, like I said, this one toasts perfectly - both sides evenly toasted when it pops out, and isn't this what we want. Not one that pops up and one side is toasted while the other side isn't barely toasted. Give this one a try. It might take 2 tries, but I love this thingnow.

This toaster performs one function: toasting. Ok, 2 functions, because it also defrosts. One function while taking a lot of counter space and costing a chunk of change -- but it is worth every penny! I got tired of playing games with my fairly new Cuisinart toaster over, never knowing when it would actually toast bread or just sit there like a toy so I sacrificed it from the SMEG. I opted for the version that accommodates 4 slices (2 slices of bread per side) and it's perfect for slices of bakery-made misshapen loaves. The slots measure a generous 1.5" by 10". It offers 6 levels of toasty-ness (3 is a perfect middle ground) and the handy release button allows you to stop and check the "doneness". The red exterior is happy and the retro shape is just COOL! And there's a special setting for bagels. I am loving my SMEG and am eating toast to beat the band -- making up for lost time on that toaster oven. Wish I had bought the SMEG years ago!

This was a perfect gift for the family. You can toast 4 pieces at the same time. We finally upgraded and traded in our old worn out toaster. It looks beautiful on my counter. Ivory color

Absolutely love this Smeg toaster! 😍 It arrived today and I’m already obsessed! The cream color is gorgeous, the retro design looks so premium and stylish on my countertop. Build quality feels solid and high-end, with shiny chrome details. Toasted my bread perfectly on the first try – even, golden, no burnt edges. Wide slots are great for thicker slices. Pairs beautifully with my matching Smeg kettle. Worth every penny for that wow factor in the kitchen! Highly recommend 👍 If you want it even shorter or any tweaks, just let me know!

We followed directions and turned the unit on without bread for the first use. We noticed two things, the inner heating elements only partially warmed up (faint glow on top element), and upon moving the toaster, it was blazing hot. We then tried to toast bread and sure enough, it was either broken or stuck on bagel mode. The toast was only toasted on one side. We hit the bagel mode button, but the behavior was the same. Usually bagel mode is only the inside elements heat. This is a good looking toaster, but it has cheap construction, poor quality, expensive, and dangerously hot (even for adults). We could have lived with the price and cheapness, but being partially DOA and dangerous, never again.

This toaster is like a piece of artwork on my countertop. Never have I kept a toaster on my counter, until I met SMEG. I first purchased the personal blender and was happy with its performance. Like the blender, the toaster is quite solid, and very eye catching in pastel blue. I like the ability to hide the cord beneath the appliance when not in use. My aesthetic is MCM, and this integrates beautifully in my kitchen.
