how I set it up, for lower torque? I just can get down only to 8NM

I had this issue with the larger 1/2" model, reached out to Durfix (manufacturer, ACDelco licenses to sell under their name). The older units will display the low torque values in Trace mode, but newer units (not sure HOW new, but perhaps 2018 and after?), so newer units will display no reaching until about 6 ft lbs (8nm) for this 3/8" unit. You will not be able to see torque values under this value. While that may seem troubling, keep in mind that for any torque wrench, it's not wise to trust readings in the bottom 10% of the range anyway. So even if you have an older unit that displays the value, it's not going to be as accurate (which is why your calibration sheets don't test it in this range).

Can I use a 3/8" to 1/2" converter bit to use 1/2" sockets and still get an accurate measurement?

It should be-BUT If you are using a 1/2 in converter to use 1/2 inch sockets it could be possible what you are doing is beyond the capability of the 3/8 torque wrench. The rating for the 3/8 torque wrench is 3ftlbs to 59ftlbs. Check what torque is needed before you damage the tool. I also bought the ACDelco ARM602-4 1/2-Inch Torque Measurement Adapter which does from 4-147.6 ft-lbs. This way I am covered and do not have any problems with damage. No issues with either one as of yet. I use both regularly and now only use my old click stop wrenches as breaker bars....
