How do you stencil around areas smaller than the stencil? For example, over a doorway?

I waited to do those areas last and then bent the stencil to do those areas. I also did the stencil with a very hard bristled brush with minimal paint and painted with a dabbing motion

So you would recommend a brush rather than a sponge?

I used spray to hold down. Then if a spot look iffy I used little tape
