The potentiometer controls the wave-form coming out of the built-in micro-controller, which controls the speed of the motor. I did not try the other features for servo control or put the controller on the o-scope to see its limits, because I didn't need too. I know the motor from the trimmer is good, so I can reuse it in another project, maybe even with this ESC. Review: Cheap with no instructions - I received two pieces. One, the dial with a plastic cover (blue) over it. Two, the generic 30A speed ESC. They cut corners on this product and you will find the dial's board inside a thin, flimsy case. There are no instructions at all. No links, and no paperwork to tell you the ESC's pinouts. I purchased this to test several quad/drone motors but I am not sure how to wire them together.
