Easy to read, lots of practical advice, a bit of overgeneralization with regard to cultures
As a new counseling student, I find this book easy to read and packed with practical advice (from "one-liners" to more complicated strategies). The case examples are helpful and the role-playing activities provide an educational and effective challenge for the student. My one issue with the book so far is the section about cultural differences. It seems to overgeneralize in a way that could be a problem for students (providing "just enough knowledge to be dangerous", as they say). While it does use some conditional language to remind readers that the descriptions of various cultures should not be used as a factual blanket description, I think this should be stated even more clearly, or reduced to recommended readings that could address these issues more thoroughly.

Good book for class
I needed this book for a class I’m taking in domestic violence. Great content. Pages are thin though so you can’t really highlight or it shows through and I actually found a spelling error while reading the first few chapters. Strange.
