Beautifully Made, Razor Sharp, and Built to Last
The Opinel No.7 is a timeless classic — simple, elegant, and incredibly reliable. The carbon steel blade comes razor sharp straight out of the box and holds its edge beautifully with minimal maintenance. It’s perfect for everything from camping and hiking to everyday tasks. The beech wood handle feels smooth and comfortable in the hand, with that traditional craftsmanship Opinel is known for. The locking ring works smoothly and gives a real sense of safety and stability when the blade is open. It’s lightweight, pocket-friendly, and has that understated charm that only gets better with use. A perfect blend of practicality and heritage a knife you’ll want to keep for life.

Nice traditional knife.
This is a really well made and ergonomic little knife. Sharp and easy to control. I'm giving it 4 stars as the lock feature is a thin ring of metal that looks a bit cheap and doesn't inspire confidence - if it fails this will cut you badly! sadly mine got taken off me as I forgot I had it in my pocket! Its a good job the security at the museum I was in laughed at the horrified look on my face and nothing more was said!

Good value
Have owned this for over a couple years and have bought one as a gift for a friend, still sharp and the mechanism is solid, works without issues. Has lasted quite a few camping trips and been utilised, so handy to keep around. The size when folded fits nicely in the pocket. Got it on sale and can say its great value for money, considering the durability.

Extremely sharp and well worth cleaning and oiling the carbon steel.
Lovely sharp knife. The wooden handle is a good size and comfortable shape. The locking ring holds the blade open securely without being too difficult to move, even with my arthritic hands. The carbon steel blade gives a much better, sharper edge than stainless steel. The trade off is you have to clean it and oil it to stop it rusting. It is well worth doing that. I use olive oil on the blade as it keeps the blade good and is fine if you want to cut up anything edible with it. I have some carbon steel Opinel kitchen knives. They hold their sharp edge better than stainless and are easier to sharpen when they eventually need it and don't need sharpening as often as stainless. I have had those for many years and am very pleased with them. If this is as good over the years I will be very pleased. As a side note if you use a ferro' rod fire starter you can get a much better spark using the back of the carbon steel blade than with the striker provided. (Making sure you have locked the blade first)

Classic
This came with a burr in the middle of the blade that I had to sharpen. I think for most everyday use it would've been fine but for my purposes I needed it to be almost razor sharp. That said once sharpened it does hold it's edge very well. It can be locked open or closed but the locking ring is a bit too stiff for my liking and isn't the most comfortable to operate. You need to clean the blade after every use because any moisture WILL rust your blade. Also note that it is not legal to carry in the UK because the blade is just over 3 inches long
