Just so i'm clear... bottle says "Watkins Original Baking Vanilla" and underneath says "with pure vanilla extract." This is NOT pure vanilla?

Hi Lisa, you are correct.  If you are looking for the "Pure" Watkins Vanilla Extract 11oz, I recommend searching Amazon for "Watkins Bourbon" or "Watkins Madagascar Pure Extract"  Usually, that product has a higher price, but right now is comparable as a good time to buy.  I hope that helps.

There has been some sort of disease which wiped out a lot of plants. Supply and demand situation, but don't expect the price to go down (on the very good stuff) any time soon if at all.

Is this "watkins original extract, baking vanilla " the same as the double strength? i want the double strength and can't seem to find it anymore.

This is NOT pure vanilla extract. While the label is extremely similar to Watkins Pure Vanilla extract (both even come in 11oz bottles), this has some extract in it along with other additives. Watkins really should have better labels to distinguish their products. Amazon used to carry the pure extract for around $19 but as of about 30 days from this writing, they require a minimum purchase of two bottles.

Is double strength Watkins vanilla pure vanilla?

"In the United States, in order for a vanilla extract to be called pure, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration requires that the solution contains a minimum of 35% alcohol and 100g of vanilla beans per litre (13.35 ounces per gallon)." This product contains double that in vanilla, but without the high alcohol content that can flavor your food. I don't much like seeing glucose in the ingredients, but I won't use any other kind of extract.
