Learn Tamil in 30 Days Through English

The title suggests that this was a book for a newcomer to the Tamil language. I have aquired som Tamil speaking friends and wanted to converse with them in their langeage as a matter of courtesy. I had hoped that there would have been some basic phrases spelt phonetically, but not so it is virtually impossible to even get started. Not Amazons fault as I forgot to read other purcgasers remarks.

The font of the Tamil script is so tiny and illegible. It is a big mistake I bought this book.

Given Tamils 240+ lettered alphabet in a South Indian script, the reader does not have a hope in hell of grasping even the basics using this book. Within 4-5 pages the transliterated Tamil into phonetically pronouncable English starts to falter, and several pages later, it is assumed the reader has grasped the finer points of pronunciation, such that one must read the script without assistance. A memorable phrase at day 30- having reached the pinnacle of what this book has to offer- goes something like this ' i was observing the shapely phallus of the Shiva statue in the corner of the exhibition hall..' Well one hates to think where one might deploy ones linguistic talents after a full year of Tamil.... Dreadful book and series. Should get -1 star.

Very useful

It makes easy to understand Tamil

First and foremost, I had some elementary knowledge of Tamil and was no beginner as such. The book layout and content was pretty average. I say it because it was not user friendly. You expect a much simpler book for first time learner's, which guides them right from pronunciation to reading a sentence. Even I had to take help to understand a few words and get hold of the pronunciations. Guess, the Rapidex books would have been better. Hope Amazon starts selling those.

I don't know Tamil language at all, I am an absolute beginner (0 level). I really liked this book. The book is precise and has structured syllabus for easy grasping. This book is easy to understand and learn. The maximum timespan for learning is 35-45 days. The book is value for money. Happy learner and customer.
