Works wonderfully, if you make certain adjustments
We recently switched to a different internet provider who was able to hook us up with a way faster connection speed than what we had been using. But we had to buy a router in order to have wireless access since the new company doesn't provide their own. When the computer was hooked up directly with an ethernet cable our speed was clocking at least 30 Mbps and usually closer to 50 or 60. After reading up on the various brands of wireless router available, we went down to a brick and mortar store planning to buy this precise Linksys model. But they didn't currently have it in stock. Impatient to get wireless, we instead bought a seemingly comparable Netgear router from the store and hooked it up the next day. It seemed to work well enough at first and although it did reduce our speed significantly we had sort of expected this so no big deal.BUT within a day or two of use the Netgear device was dropping the internet connection about once every other day. Not a huge problem, we just reset the router and once it booted up again it worked fine for another day or two. But we had just been through this kind of dropped-connection drama with our previous internet provider and were not really as tolerant of it as we might have been. Besides which, the Netgear reduced our speed so far that actual downloading was only around 300 Kbps. So we researched again, saw this router with the tip in the comments about how to adjust the settings to boost the speed and performance and ultimately we decided that this really was the one we wanted and had from the beginning. So we went ahead and ordered it on Amazon and while waiting for it to arrive continued to use the Netgear, which continued to perform pretty much the same. Once the Linksys came we set it up and crossed our fingers. Sure enough, the Linksys was only giving us around 600 Kbps. But we went ahead and followed the directions given by another reviewer here and changed the settings. The directions were as follows:"Go to [...] and login to your router. If you've never done this, look for instructions that came with your router or do a google search to find the default username and password.Find a page that has QoS settings. For the E1200, you need to click on "Applications & Gaming" and select the "QoS" sub-menu. (It is the same for the E900 as well)Disable WMM Support.Click save."Once we did this the speed immediately went up to the 25 to 35 Mbps range and has stayed there since. No dropped connections, faster speed than we even expected, and the extra reassurance of knowing that if we do have a problem customer service will be available indefinitely, rather than having to pay for it after the first 90 days (as was the case with the Netgear router). We couldn't be happier with this router, it has made the internet a pleasure to use again and I just wish we had bought it in the first place!

Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router
Brought this router to go with my new WIFI tablet at home. I followed the instructions for setup to the letter, but couldn't get the router to connect with my wireless laptop. Went online and used Linksys' chat line for help with the connection and setup. After 3 times on the chat line and on a live phone technical support person, I couldn't get the router and my laptop configured properly. Chat line support staff were helpful, but nothing would work. Next day, I checked to see if my tablet would connect with the router, and it did. But in order for me to connect my laptop with the Internet, I have a hard wire connection from my laptop to the router. The laptop and the router should work wireless and doesn't ... the reason for only 4 stars. The router and the tablet connect perfectly, which is why I bought the router. The router and tablet work fine throughout my house. My only problems were in the installation and setup with the Linksys technical support staff not being able to fix the problems. Got the router for a great price. Not perfect but works.

Happy Customer
I have had this router for about a week and, while I'm by no means a technology pro, I consider myself intermediately competent. As far as I can tell, I didn't even need to be competent since this router pretty much set itself up for me. It was almost too simple and fast ... I kept thinking I must've missed something! But no, it's up and running; gives me a solid signal everywhere in the house and out on the deck. My Samsung Smart TV found it immediately and internet access via 2 wireless laptops, the TV and a wired desktop is rock solid and quick.I'm getting used to the idea that there are no lights on the front of it to assure me all is well, but on the other hand, I've not yet had any reason to question it! We can simultaneously stream Netflix movies, play browser-based games, watch youtube and write an Amazon review *smile* ... all without a hiccup.I know this is currently (supposedly) the bottom of the Linksys heap but I can't imagine needing anything more from a router than this delivers. Buy it with confidence and enjoy.

Budget routers aren't always bad!
This is an amazingly simple little router for a small home. I always choose to go with Linksys over the other brands because they just have a tendency to work more effectively for a longer period of time.PROS:Still has a lot of features in the firmware like Port Forwarding and triggering.Very simple set up.CONS:They still include a CD in it. I have multiple certifications in networking, and I can't get a router working with a CD....just plug it in and go to 192.168.1.1 in a web browser and set up your SSID and security that way.BEGINNERS TIP: When you start up a router, make sure your modem has been on for a few seconds. You want to run one Ethernet cable from your Internet source (Modem) to the INTERNET port of your router, one Ethernet cable from ANY numbered port on the router to your computer's Ethernet, and then power up your modem...wait a minute or two, then turn on your router. Then go to a web browser, open up 192.168.1.1, username is admin, password is admin...if admin doesn't work try password for the password; so either admin admin, or admin password. Under basic settings and basic security settings you should be able to find SSID and Security. The SSID is the broadcast name of your router, like when you look for a router at Starbucks it says "ATT Starbucks WIFI" you can make yours say whatever you want there. Then you can change your security. I suggest using a WPA/WPA2 Mixed, because some older devices do not play well with WPA2. I've even seen some later devices not like that type of security. Make your password something you know, and apply the settings. If you don't have Internet after that, go ahead and power cycle the modem and router...What does power cycling mean? I mean turn your modem and router off at their power sources. Turn your modem on, wait a minute, and then turn on your router. After a minute you can try to connect to the Internet again and it should work well. ALSO: This is a great tip for you if the router ever stops working, like you think its' broken....POWER CYCLE THEM!Short and Sweet: Great router for an apartment or small house!

LinkSys/Cisco support has a long way to go!
*****UPDATE - May 15, 2013I'm placing this update here so everyone that is interested will see it immediately and not miss it by having to scroll down. I have downgraded this to 1 star. If I could give it ZERO, I would. Here are the issues:1. It operates slower than my old LinkSys WRT54G, Iam speaking strictly of the WIFI environment, not the network and cable modem.2. It is supposed to yield better range, but at maximum, I still get the same number of WIFI bars as I did on the old G router, and often, this one doesn't even get enough of a signal to maintain a connection. I have tried re-positioning the device but that has not helped. I live in a modest sized 1-story home and there are no challenging requirements.3. I can never seem to finish any task before the router drops the signal and I get a message - connection lost.I am so thoroughly annoyed with this piece of garbage. If I didn't fear going back and having to re-configure everything, I would go back to the old WRT54G. As it is now, I will probably look for a different brand.Linksys has come a long way from the pinnacle of performance to the depths of the trash heap.=========================================================================================*****ORIGINAL REVIEWVery briefly, I purchased this 802.11N router as an upgrade from my LinkSys 802.11G. Not so much for the speed, but rather the extended range which should make it easier to access from different points in my home. I expected that all I would need to do was configure the router with my existing SSID and WAP Key. I have been programming network computers since the 1960s, and I think I know my way around simple router configuration issues. Not so simple folks. If you have a Lenovo Thinkpad, there is a wifi driver called ThinkVantage. Upon trying to install this, the LinkSys software immediately told me that this router would only operate under Windows WiFi manager. Trying to disable the ThinkVantage software was a bear. I accidentally deleted the driver and had to download a new driver from Lenovo and re-install it. So far, it sounds like it was my dumb mistake, right?Anyway, my computer would not recognize the router, nor visa versa. Knowing it was going to be a long process, I made a pot of coffee and proceeded to call LinkSys. When I explained the problem, they stated that this was beyond the scope of their warranty support, and they talked me into a $20 one year tech support contract. Since I had very few options other than returning the product, I figured they had me over a barrel. Then to add insult to injury, he tried to sell me an 802.11N external USB adaptor for my computer for a discounted price of $30. "Do I have a deal for you (sucker).... I declinedI purchased the TS package, and after another hour or so, we finally got it working ... more with me tutoring the rep than him solving the problem. An hour after hanging up on him, the computer lost its connection again. This time when I called back, the rep insisted on re-activating the ThinkVantage manager. Only to find out as I had warned her that this wasn't going to work. We did get it running again, and at this point I tried to explain that my HP 8500 Pro wireless AIO printer would not connect either. Her reply was essentially "We don't do printers." I explained that the problem wasn't the printer but rather the router. She was intransigent. So my $20 wasn't even worth a glass of water.I did call HP because I have a service contract on the printer (not something I usually do) but in this case it was worth it. Bottom line, an intelligent gal from the Phillipines discovered that the router was assigning an IP address outside the range of the acceptable address for the printer. We resolved this, and now the printer works as well. Next step was to update the HPePrint apps on my and my wife's Droid Razr smartphones. I haven't even attempted to do my Kindle Fire yet. I'm not looking forward to it.If I had to do it again, I WOULDN"T. I was ten nanoseconds away from packing the thing up and sending it back to Amazon.Five and a half hours later, I have five of six devices working ... still dreading the Kindle Fire.Good night everyone.

Works great
When I first set this up yesterday, I was surprised about the variability of speeds between our devices (3 laptops, 1 netbook, 2 droids, 2 kindles). I got anything from 0.5Mbs to 15. This was with the default settings. Some pages took forever to load and I wasn't sure if they would load at all. I went online and did some basic research and saw some comments to change the channels or the MTU speed. The MTU speed didn't seem to change much but I didn't try it too much because at the bottom of one comment, I saw a commant about the MMU setting. However, I went and checked and it was enabled. I disabled it and the speed on the netbook went from <1Mbs to over 25. Pages that wouldn't load before, loaded right up. I changed the MTU back to the default Auto and it didn't make a difference. I never did try the channels. I would bet that those that say this is slow have this enabled. Maybe also those that have a complaint of it's range. I am in a 2800 square foot home and get 5 bars throughout from the laptops. Even from the kindles and the Droids the signal only goes down 1 bar.Ever since then it works great. Will advise if things change.I took off one star for this being the default and for the power supply being oriented such that it takes up multiple spaces in a power strip. Here's the thread: [...]

First one died after two hours!!?!?! second seems to be functioning ok
This review is based on both the E900 and the E1200. We've had a linksys router for about 10 years and I was starting to have trouble with speed and pages opening, so it was time to replace. I bought the E900 on amazon and set it up when it arrived. Set up took way longer than it should have. Kept trying and it would say unable to set up without giving me any troubleshooting tips. After playing with it for far too long, my husband turned to the back of the cd case where it had a couple troubleshooting tips which said to turn off antivirus, which i did and then it did install ok. Router seemed to function well for a max of 2 hours and then it bricked up. All the lights went on and were solid, not flickering/flashing. After trying all manners of restart, unplug, you name it we tried it, and some googling we determined that the device's firmware had failed and it was shot. DEAD AFTER TWO HOURS!?!?!?!?! needless to say I returned it. Was hesitant to buy another one that's basically the same, but got the E1200 at target because it was the only reasonably priced on. After turning off the antivirus again, install went smoothly and it's been functioning well and properly for a day or so. Seriously hoping that the first one received was just a dud and this one will last far longer but it hasn't instilled much hope in the quality so I will just wait and see.

Linksys E900 as a wireless bridge
Fisrt off: 5 star. This little router might be old, but it has all you need for a simple and yes working 2.4 router. Why I needed this?I am getting ready to move into a bigger house, 3 story, and wanted to have a full house wireless coverage. Nowadays, everybody has cell phnes, tablet and what not, to be connected to the wifi. So, I needed a router to extend by main router signal, for the record, a Linksys ea2700.I found about a third party software to be used, DD-WRT. It will open a new world. Easy to update the software[...]then get your main router info and set-up the new e900 to be working as wireless bridge; no cable needed, just place it somewhere in the house to extend the primary router signal.[...]You will not be disappointed.

Performans > Fiyat
Not: Tomato Shibby firmware ile telnet üzerinden yönetim.

It is working good. The set up was not much complicated
I have just bought it. The delivery was very late ( more than 1 week late than the expected date displayed on webpage ). That may be due to a huge orders on Diwali offered items. It is working good. The set up was not much complicated. Though, there are a lot of things to set up and I have done only the basic settings for wireless and local internet provider's connection ( no DHCP, with private static IP ). I wish the power cord is a bit longer. I access the internet through wireless and sometimes sit beyond couple of cement walls. Still, it provides satisfactory speed. I am happy with this low price but very good product from Cisco.

Very inconsistent, complete waste of money
A company like Linksys produces very top quality home routers usually. But in this case the product I received was absolutely terrible. I bought it to replace my old Linksys router, but this one was even worse. It worked smoothly for maybe maximum a day but then I started getting random and frequent disconnections. I set up a constant ping to google.com and noticed insanely high delays and frequent packet drops. At first I thought it is a problem with my internet connection but as soon as I plugged in my old router, everything was fine again. A complete waste of money for me. I'm back to using my old router now and since I missed the return date, I'm stuck with this utterly useless router.
