I had tried to chip away layers of caulk in the tub using a putty knife, a razor, and a caulk remover tool, and didn't get very far, even after heating up the old caulk with a blow dryer as I've seen recommended. I read the reviews for this product and thought I would give it a try. People had commented that leaving the product on for two hours per the directions wasn't enough time. I put a heavy bead on the areas of caulk I wanted to remove and let it sit for 24 hours. My experience was that the caulk did not come off in neat little strips. The remover turned the old caulk into a very soft material and it came off very easily with a putty knife and/or razor blade, like paint your scrap off wood furniture after you've used paint stripper. The parts where there had been just a single layer of caulk were easily removed. The areas where layer upon layer of caulk had been applied are taking more work. I got off as much as I could with the first application and have applied a second heavy bead of the remover. I've used about half the bottle for the two applications. I really like that the remover has little or no fumes at all. I still keep everything well-ventilated and I wear disposable latex gloves when I am working with the remover. Lastly, to make sure the remover wouldn't harm or discolor the fiberglass, before using the product I did a patch test by applying about a dime-size amount on the fixture and letting it sit for about 2 hours. It was being held up with just some type of caulk, glue or cement...I'm not sure which. One day it decided to break loose from the wall leaving behind only the stuff that had been keeping it in place. Now I was stuck with this residue line of dried, hard, crumbly, sticky stuff that was impossible to remove with a razor blade or scraping tool. I had used 3M other times in the past and remembered what a phenomenal job it did, so I set out to get some. Unfortunately, I could not find it any stores near me (and I searched hard b/c this stuff is fantastic). Instead, I tried other products from Lowe's and Home Depot, but had no luck. None, nada, zilch. These products didn't even soften the residue a little bit. The 3M arrived immediately with my 'Prime" shipping and worked like a charm.
