## Description

Brand New 2K Masters! Where Innocence Is a Punishable Crime! Deborah Raffin (Death Wish 3) and Lynne Moody (Scream Blastula Scream) star as two young and attractive college students who become enmeshed in a trap of local prejudice and greed when their car breaks down outside a small, sleepy town. Insulted by the girls’ rejection of his amorous advances, the local sheriff (Chuck Connors, The Big Country) arrests them for trespassing and prostitution. After a mockery of a “trial, ” they are sentenced to a women's’ prison farm run by brutal guards and a sex-crazed superintendent. Cut off from contact with friends and family, the girls realize that they are at the mercy of a crooked justice system, designed to supply local farms with cheap prison labor. Their only hope is to escape this nightmare, at the risk of their lives. Nightmare in Balham County exposes the terror and corruption of a vicious tyranny that actually exists in certain communities where “justice” is no more than a charade for greed. The great John Llewellyn Mosey (The Night Stalker) directed this realistic and shocking action-drama. Written by Jo Heems (Play Misty for Me) and co-starring Finial Flanagan (Death Dreams), Tina Louise (TV’s Gilligan Island), Robert Reed (TV’s The Brady Bunch), Della Reese (TV’s Touched by an Angel), Lana Wood (Diamonds Are Forever) and Ralph Bellamy (Trading Places). Special Features: -Includes both the TV cut and the R RATED Theatrical cut -Interview with Director John Llewellyn Mosey -Audio Commentary by Film Historian/Author Amanda Reyes and Author/Podcaster Justin Ker swell (TV Cut) -Trailers

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Kino-Lorber bluray release.
*by A***. on November 15, 2019*

Great uncut 2k scan. Extras. Commentaries. Subtitles.A rare U.S. based WIP flick. Usually this type of fare was based and/or filmed in the Philippines. Are you in the market for a film that features a scantily clad Tina Louise hose down (as to break up the inevitable cat-fight-in-the-mud) nude and semi-nude inmates while cackling with her (also inevitable) sapphic sidekick? Yes? OK, then!Great direction by John Moxley (Circus of Fear, The Night Stalker) and stunning cinematography by Frank Stanley - best known for his work with Clint Eastwood, most notably Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Magnum Force and the Eiger Sanction. He also shot Blake Edwards' 10 (1979). You can really see (feel?) the sunbaked dirt and oppressive heat.Very effective script by another frequent Clint Eastwood collaborator, Jo Heims. She penned Play Misty For Me and did uncredited work on Dirty Harry. She'll always have a place in every exploitation fan's heart for her classic script (under a pseudonym) for the 1977 sleaze-fest Death Game (aka The Seducers), which was later remade as Knock Knock by Eli Roth.Great cast: Deborah Raffin (The Sentinel, God Told Me To) is terrific and quite fetching. Carol Brady's "beard" Robert Reed surprisingly believable as a sleaze-ball deluxe. Chuck Connors in one of his best exploitation roles - on par with his insane performances in The Mad Bomber (aka The Police Connection), Tourist Trap and Graydon Clark's infamous 80s (available on Prime! Free!) VHS classic, Skinheads. The entire cast (see product description) really shine. Real troopers, as it were.I'm amazed that a TeeVee version exists, let alone aired. Not that I'll watch it - the TV version is also included - presumably it might be of academic interest for some.A must see for the WIP/ southern-fried/ drive-in enthusiast. It also meets the criteria for a "good movie." What more can one want?

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Memorable made for TV women's prison film
*by M***E on November 22, 2019*

Just watched the Kino Lorber blu ray. The blu ray does contain both the originally as aired TV version (which aired on ABC as a Friday "Movie of the Week") and a version that aired in theaters overseas. The "overseas" version is longer, with extra nudity and two additional scenes not seen in the TV version. (One scene involves Robert Reed selecting women for a gathering at his estate, the other involves an inmate and a lesbian prison guard wanting sex) I prefer the TV version, which plays as a quite effective exploitation drama. (I still remember the whipping scenes from when I first saw it on the Friday "Movie of the Week") The transfers are quite good for 1970s era "made for TV" films (which are oftentimes have had DVD presentations in "50 movie pack" collections with mediocre transfers). Extras include an interview with John Llewelyn Moxey(the director) and a commentary track discussing this and how it fits in with the "women in prison" genre. (The Linda Blair TV film "Born Innocent" was mentioned a bit in the commentary & I also recommend tracking down that DVD)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Ok movie, but I didn't like how it ended.
*by D***! on May 28, 2025*

I finally had the chance to see the uncut version that they never put on television a long time ago. I was sad about how the movie had ended. If you buy this movie, you will see what I mean. Other than that, the movie was ok.
