Excelente integración entre sentimientos y temores, entre la realidad y la imaginación. Utiliza -como es típico de Ruiz zafon- la descripción de los detalles que permiten al lector hacer su propia escenografía en cada párrafo.

Marina, by Zafón is one of those stories that when started wakens the curiosity and keeps one reading. It is written in excellent Spanish, and Zafón takes the reader into a fantastic world of intrigue. Marina is laden with mystery which leads the reader to live alongside the protagonists and actually visualize what is taking place and where everything is occurring. The vivid descriptions of the Barcelona of olden times gives the reader a historical view of what once was and how great it was. I do recommend a good command of the Spanish language if Marina is read in Spanish because no translation will do it justice. It is a great read. Muchas gracias al Sr. Zafón por brindarnos unas historias repletas de intrigas y misterios las cuales nos llevan a otro mundo sin igual.

I read this book in English, but got the Spanish version as a present for a friend. I thought this book was seriously creepy in a way that I can't even properly explain - and I like to read creepy stuff. So, if you are into stories about things happening that shouldn't be able to happen, then this might be right up your alley.

I am not fluent enough in Spanish to write this review in that idiom, so perhaps I am not the best judge, but I find It difficult to choose a star rating. This is, by the author's own definition, a novel for juveniles and I am waaay toward the end of the age spectrum. I read this book because I very much enjoyed his adult novels. His writing is on that same high level but the structure probably would make this book more difficult for teens: there are very, very long passages of narration by a sole character, many OMG WHY would he do THAT moments, and the magical reality is too strained to carry me along as it did in his later books. But then, paradójicamente (love that word in Spanish) I read it through...twice. Zafon's writing magic drags you along despite the flaws. I still cared about the characters, the descriptions of a bygone Barcelona, and the examination of the ultimate paradox of life/death. Zafon writes a not-so-good novel better then the best-of-the-rest so I'll waffle and give it three ***.

Nice adventurous book with some mystery and love. I recommend it for adults of all ages. I read it in Spanish!, and I learned some new words and phrases.

I picked this up to practice Spanish. I loved shadow of the wind from zafon. It took me over a month to finish. Maybe it was the Spain dialect or the authors florid vocab. Definitely not an easy book to read in 2nd language, but enough meaning and style came through to make it stay with me.

Es la primer obra que leo de Ruiz Zafón y la leí esperando resolver la icónica frase de "Solo recordamos lo que nunca sucedió" que aparece en la sinópsis, pero toda la construcción fue más allá y me impresionó. La narración fluye de forma excelente, el estilo de escritura es preciso describiendo sin marear, maneja perfecto el ambiente oscuro y tenso o nostálgico y sentimental según se necesite. Abarca aspectos de misterio, policiacos, terror, romance, tragedia y hasta reflexión filosófica. Que además sea una novela corta la vuelve ideal para adentrar a las personas en la lectura o en las obras de Ruiz Zafón. Me encantó todo, es probablemente de mis 5 libros favoritos de toda la vida.

Un libro molto coinvolgente, come tutti i libri che compongono la trilogia. Consiglio di leggere la versione originale in spagnolo se possibile. Davvero raccomandato se vi piace il genere thriller e se conoscete o volete conoscere meglio la città di Barcellona!

Bon livre

Great reading, easy and entertaining

I loved this book. I like the way the author writes. So descriptive that the characters are so alive in your mind. I have also read The Shadow of the Wind which I also enjoyed, but because Marina is written in Spanish I had to take more time to read it, as there was a lot of vocabulary that I didn't know, so I seemed to take in every word. Fantastic practice for anyone learning Spanish
