Compared Amazon, Repel, & Umenice
Looking for a lightweight and small umbrella for travel, I bought the Amazon Basics, Repel, and Umenice for something even lighter. I decided to keep 2, and I chose the Umenice and Repel, in that order. But this also seemed an overall good umbrella so read on. I weighed them myself: Umenice 9oz Amazon 13oz Repel 14oz I measured the diameters myself: Umenice 38.5" Repel and Amazon 37.75" The Repel and Amazon are very similar, both auto open, both vented designs which theoretically makes them less likely to invert in strong gusts. The Umenice is quite different, due to its silver UV-resistant fabric, manual open, and unvented. While each was open, I shook each violently up and down as if wind gusts were attempting to invert the umbrellas. The Repel 9 rib design was noticeably stiffer/sturdier than the 8 rib Amazon. Surprisingly, the Umenice 8 rib design seemed much closer in sturdiness to the Repel than the Amazon, despite being 8 rib and unvented. Perhaps the different fabric on the Umenice played a part in this. The handles on the Repel and Amazon are larger and easier to hold on to than the Umenice, however, the handles on the Repel and Amazon also have a considerable amount of 'play' between the umbrella shaft and the handle, meaning they will twist and turn noticeably in wind gusts, which is something I found mildly annoying with my last umbrella. I think this may be an unfortunate side effect of all auto open umbrellas. Another slight difference is the storage sleeve is a tight fit over the Amazon while the Repel and Umenice slide in more easily. When I bought, the Repel and Umenice we're both about $30, while the Amazon was $17. I was going to buy a Repel umbrella with a design on it to help it stand out, but I read that's accomplished with another layer of fabric and I wanted umbrellas as light as possible. The Repel advertises a lifetime warranty. I chose the Umenice first because it is noticeably lighter and smaller for travel than either of the other two, that's my most important quality in a travel umbrella, and I don't care much about auto open, particularly because that feature still requires two hands to fully close the umbrella. And in fact it seems to require 'loose' handles which to me makes a net negative. I do wish the Umenice had a slightly larger (yet still lightweight) handle which I think would add less than an ounce but make it easier to hold. I also wish it was vented, but it surprisingly held up to my wind gust scenario seemingly nearly as well as the vented Repel, and definitely better than the vented Amazon. The lifetime warranty with the Repel is great in theory, however it's nearly twice the price of the very similar Amazon and personally I know from experience it will go missing (not covered under warranty of course) before I went through 2 Amazon umbrellas so I don't consider that of particular benefit. It being sturdier/9 rib is, so I'm going to keep the Repel as an extra, and for long-term comparison to the Umenice.

Petite but mighty; even has vents; sturdy and good mechanism.
Perfect small umbrella. It even has vents despite being small. Feels very sturdy. I haven't used in rain yet but keep one in each car.

Great but might not hold up during a Nor'Easter.
I purchased this as my other travel umbrella from Brookstone finally died. I've bought Amazon Basics items in the past and have been impressed with the quality, which is usually better than their higher priced counterparts so I figured why not? It was very rainy and windy here in Boston so it'd be a good test. The wind vents worked out great except I noticed that the wind coming through the vents would create a bit of lift on the inside so make sure you have a good grip or it might get airborne. The width of the canopy was great and I didn't get wet except for my shoes. The automatic button was nice and almost too forceful. Make sure you don't have someone in front of you! Pressing the down button only closes the canopy so you still have to manually collapse it. The spring inside the stem must be super strong as it took a bit of muscle. Maybe I just wasn't expecting it. Now, getting to the handle. I thought it was terrible. Super uncomfortable and by the end of my 12 minute walk, my hand was sore. The loop could be a bit longer/bigger as well. During my trip, the umbrella did invert once. Granted, these were close to 15mph winds. On a normally rainy day, this will probably hold up. During a borderline Nor'easter like today, your mileage may vary. Overall, great umbrella with minor cons.

Does the job
A high-quality and affordable option for anyone in need of a reliable umbrella. One of the standout features of this umbrella is its automatic open and close button, which makes it incredibly easy to use. I can open and close the umbrella with just one hand, which is especially helpful when I'm carrying groceries or other items. The compact size of the umbrella also makes it easy to carry in my bag or purse. Another great feature of this umbrella is its wind vent design, which helps to prevent the umbrella from turning inside out during strong gusts of wind. The umbrella is also made from high-quality materials and feels sturdy in my hand.

Surprising high quality!
I was a little hesitant to order this umbrella because of the "AmazonBasics" label. Frankly, I was concerned about the quality. But it got such great reviews that I decided to take a chance. I'm so glad that I did! This umbrella is heavy duty, without being complete overkill or bulky. The nylon fabric is thick and much heavier than any of the other umbrellas I've ever owned. The handle has a nice grip to it, too. The push button open/close feature works perfectly. It's a little bit tough to push the telescopic handle back down after closing the umbrella, but nothing that can't be easily overcome. The absolute only complaint I can come up with is that the umbrella won't easily go back into the nylon sleeve that it comes in. It's a little bit of a bummer, but certainly not a deal breaker. The only other thing to keep in mind is that this is not a super lightweight model. It might not be suitable to keep in a bag at all times. But I would imagine the weight is due to the superior materials used to make it. Overall, I'm very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this umbrella, and will probably purchase one or two more to keep in our vehicles. Thanks, Amazon! * Keep in mind that if my opinion of this product changes after using it over time, I will absolutely update my review to reflect that. Also note that I paid full price for this item.

Didn't know that there is such a thing as a cheap, durable, and VERY functional umbrella
Bought this on Wirecutter recommendation and can honestly say that between the price, light weight in the hand, and surviving use in its first windy rainstorm while keeping me pretty dry, I'm actually loving this umbrella. The wind vents are subtle but very functional; the classic black looks great.

Good while it lasted
The vent does nothing. The umbrella still inverts. The wind bent the metal out of shape.

... this umbrella to have the right balance of being sturdy and portable
I found this umbrella to have the right balance of being sturdy and portable. Light enough to carry around in my work bag but strong enough to withstand a wet and windy Seattle rain shower. The wind vents were definitely helpful, not a silver bullet against being wind blown. However, due to good design, the frame is sturdy enough to withstand the force of moderate wind. Best Feature: May be silly, but my favorite thing about this umbrella so far is that the umbrella is easy to wrap up into a compact size and fits perfectly back in the sleeve after use. Con: In my opinion, the curved handle makes holding it more difficult than a normal handle. That's the only thing I prefer about my old Tote umbrella over this Amazon Basic Umbrella. Overall, good umbrella for the price.

Muy práctico y de buena calidad.
Excelente.

Survived high winds and strong rain and still looks perfect
This umbrella arrived at the perfect time, just hours before a big storm blew through, and it performed incredibly well. The wind vent a the top helped the umbrella stay the right way around even during very strong gusts of wind. Also, the metal ribs seem to be very strong, flexing just the right amount when buffeted by the wind without any evidence of damage. The canvas is also quite high quality and looks very nice too. Some reviewers have mentioned that it is difficult to retract the umbrella. I didn't find it so. There is a up-and-down button on the handle. Just give that a press to either deploy or retract the umbrella and up it pops or down it comes with ease. It wraps up tightly and fits in the included sleeve for storage. The umbrella is a wee bit bulky, but then again it also extends to a good size and provides a lot of coverage. It isn't something I will carry in my purse every day, but it is definitely going to be something I carry on days when rain is a possibility. It is my new favourite umbrella.

Compact, strong, and reliable
Excellent umbrella. Very compact and easy to carry, but still feels sturdy. It opens quickly with the push of a button and handles windy conditions well without turning inside out or breaking. I chose the reinforced version and it has been great so far. Highly recommended.

かなり丈夫な傘。
高校生の息子が使ってます。傘はしっかりしてて良い感じ。多少乱暴に扱っても長持ちしそうです。ただ重めなので筋力がない人には不向き。
