Why I chose this one
If you are looking for a SSD, whether for an upgrade or a new build, you have a lot of choices from both very well known companies and some you’ve never heard of. There may be a lot of your reading this who never heard of this company before and were either lured by the price compared to others or maybe you ran across a third-party review for it somewhere. If you are a technie who actually walks the walk rather than regurgitates fantasy specs you already know that this SSD has a lot going for it, perhaps making it one of the best overall buys you can find. And if you’re on the other end of the extreme, depending on the so-called experts to guide you, you probably feel a whole lot safer sticking to a brand name you know. Let’s stop right there and clear that up for you, the company who makes this is one of only two or three who actually designs, engineers and makes these things. Until recently they hid behind the scenes, content to sell their technology to those more famous names. Now they are available under their own brand name and the fact is that it seems they have saved some of their best technology for themselves. I am not a computer engineer but I have a very solid background in the industry. These days I operate my own photographic and design studio and have an HP graphics workstation that is substantially more sophisticated than most typical PC’s. My language is performance, not benchmark tests under ideal conditions or what manufacturers put on their spec sheets. The company who makes workstations like mine has installed Hynix memory for a very long time in their products, it’s what I buy when I upgrade memory. Due to the heavy use my systems get I was shopping for 1TB SSD’s and did a lot of research. Paying a few dollars more or less wasn’t part of the equation - performance and reliability topped my list, with the second one hard to quantify and not usually discussed in other reviews. I can’t and won’t put a number to that because this particular one I’m reviewing could die an hour after installing it. Anyone who quotes you anything definitive is someone you should be walking away in the other direction from - fast. And by the way ditto regarding those reviews who ignore everything about this product and give it one star because it didn’t include a setscrew. Really? Use your old one, that’s something that is not the responsibility of any SSD manufacturer to provide. The same thing by and large goes for specs. Whether they be in the controlled environment of a lab or something quoted in a so-called expert review, what is true for someone else you don’t know, in their system, under their loads, using their apps simply is not going to be true for you, so I’ll save you the trouble, don’t look for meaningless specs from me, you’ll just be wasting your time. CAUTION Whether you are experienced in replacing or a new install of a SSD I suggest not just plunging into it without going to the manufacturer’s support page and downloading the three PDF’s and three apps (including a firmware update specific to the model of this drive you ordered. The support docs are free and helpful no matter what your skill level is. This is especially true if you are doing a data migration from your boot drive to a new SSD, the risk of some data not transferring or being corrupted is too great, which is also a definite mandatory to back up everything you own before even diving in. YES OR NO This brings me to the bottom line a lot faster than I usually get there when evaluating a product. I’ll tell you why I chose this one and from there you’re on your own. I put about ten percent of my choice on it being the right form factor and configuration to fit and work in my system and a full ninety percent on trusting this brand to give me the best performance in its price range. As a side note, if you are closer to the novice level you shouldn’t have to worry about cloning your system boot drive over to this as your new one - the app they include (while not being the most sophisticated ever made) is excellent. It gives you almost zero options, which is perfectly adequate - easy, safe and as much as most people will ever need. Migrating my entire C drive to the new SSD took about 15 minutes and it gave me an extremely detailed report (optional to read unless you are into such things). When I plugged my new Hynix into the slot and powered up my computer it was absolutely flawless, every app, every file, every preference, ever login, they were all exactly when they used to be only now I had a much larger, faster and brand-new main drive.

Fast, reliable, always working like the first day.
This Nvme its one of the best in the market. Currently i have a big 2TB WD Black Gen4 and the speed in commond daily task are none. Hynix its a very googd drive, cooler and always give me 3500/3200 R/W speeds Today afte 3 years or more, its like new and working as auxiliary disk in a Nvme/usb enclosure. Reccomended!

Great drive with a fast DRAM cache
Even though this drive has "low specs" for a modern nvme drive, don't be fooled. It includes 2GB of LPDDR4-2133 for it's DRAM cache (which many faster drives don't have) and a decent sized Pseudo-SLC cache at 185 GB. Once the drive fills it's Pseudo-SLC cache it transfers at a fast 1400 MB/s, which may be faster than low end newer Gen 4/5 nvme drives. Do not get the wrong idea about only have 2GB of DRAM not mattering because of it's "small" size. This cache is mainly for the drive's metadata not for caching your data. Drives without a cache either use a tiny 64MB HMB (Host Memory Buffer), which is system RAM or no caching at all. Those drives will be fetching the metadata from the nvme which can make a difference in responsiveness. With a 185GB Pseudo-SLC cache, which caches your write data, I highly recommend reserving that amount on the drive. This means making sure that about 180 GB is NOT partitioned on the drive. This will ensure that there is always at least 60GB is available for the Pseudo-SLC cache. So that you understand, the drive controller will utilize flash from it's data area for caching. This drive uses TLC flash which is 3 bits per cell. When it uses the flash as a Pseudo-SLC cache it instead uses the flash in 1 bit per cell mode. If you reserve 180 GB then the drive can use that for 60GB of Pseudo-SLC cache. This is large enough to matter as the drive fills, but not so much as to greatly reduce the drive's formatted capacity.

Fast & Good Quality
I was unsure really if I could trust the quality or not of this drive simply because of past experiences with hynix memory being rather hit and miss or simply a bunch of rebranded micron or other brand memory chips on the memory sticks I've bought from them in the past. I figured the price was good enough and amazon is pretty good with returns so give it a try. Well I've given it almost 3 months now and the speed is fantastic and very responsive. I've filled about 1/4th of the drive to 1/2 of the drive space up with games, media, random files and the performance has not dropped. The speeds for read and writing are fantastic and reliable so far. plus having their warranty at 5 years is not bad either. This drive came with no frills to it, packaging was chopped down to just what is necessary and nothing more. no heatsink included with this drive, no software for copying drives(which was ok for me as I was just using it for the extra storage for games and programs alone.). Install aside from the laptop side problems was a breeze, simple slide in and press down and secure with the screw(no screws provided with drive but my laptop had extras in the stick slots so that worked out perfect.). It formatted with not issues and windows recognized it without problems too. Overall at this point I give it a 5 out of 5. It does run warm but according to all data related to these newer style drives that is actually a good thing for their health and performance. It does result in sweatier hands, but hey its winter so at least I got a nice hand warmer. lol If you are on the line between this and samsung I would say unless you want one with already attached heatsink you could do worse for the price. I think for once all the parts and pieces truly are made by this company in South Korea and they are truly high quality. So I for one say go for it!

Best overall deal!
I first purchased a Samsung 970 EVO Plus because I used to have an 860 and I recall that Samsung had their custom drivers and software that actually upgrades the firmware for better performance (unlike most other brands...) - until I decided to do one last search before I sealed the deal! The Samsung would have cost me $195 after taxes, but I looked and I kept seeing reviews on this drive and I remember that SK Hynix did have drives, but they were not listed on 'other' sites that I was thinking about buying from. EVERY review rates this drives as near perfect and the fastest PCIE 3.0 drive on most levels - especially write speed, and it is second to NONE in power efficiency and low power use! The only negatives are the PCB color (for some) and some small read drop off when compared to some, but it is still near the top. Anyone who knows the computer industry knows that SK Hynix, along with Micron and Samsung are the actual NAND and other memory manufacturers that sell or make chips for all of these various SSD and/or RAM brands, all others do not make the memory. This is why this drive is a top performer as they have their own, custom controller, which is very fast. Plus, they have a 128 layer NAND which is a first in the industry and provides many benefits. After review after review, I realized that the only drives that outperform this one are the most expensive and/or the PCIE 4.0 drives - which heat up a lot and are only available on AMD platforms. All reviews marveled at the low power use and efficiency of this M.2 drive to the point that they were shocked and memorized by it's unusually highly efficient performance! They could not believe it's performance period - let alone for a lot less than other brand's top drives. This is on par with Samsung's top and most expensive drive - the pro and/or the plus. I tried to go on their website and it was a very slow moving site with no real information on the product and no toolbox software or no custom drivers, so I was wondering how committed they were. However, I knew that they made the memory, so it explains why this drive is so great. Yes - the PCB could have been colored black - or yellow instead of old school green, but I am not able to see it once installed anyway, so it does not matter much to me. I tried finding info on it such as TRIM, drivers or encryption, but it DOES have all wear leveling features but no encryption. I did not mind the absence of encryption since my Teamgroup (which beat my old 860 Samsung by a lot) SSD did not have encryption or it's own drivers or firmware updates. Once this was installed - it blew away the Teamgroup, the old Samsung and it made my already speedy PC feel like a new PC! The Samsung that I had always tested below the advertised speed. The Teamgroup drive tested 3110 read and 2008 write when the specs called for 3300 and 2500. The SK tested (using Samsung Magician) 3440 read and 3241 write! This is the first drive I had that got just about at the stated speeds! The increased write speeds truly make a difference in all functions! I was not sure of the benefits of faster write speeds, but once I started checking websites and DOWNLOADING games, playing games and video editing - I THEN noticed the benefits! Downloads now write as fast or faster than the internet bandwidth. Games like GTA V (or anything, truth be told) have full draw, INCREASED detail, coloring, speed, frames/smoothness and overall performance! It is clear-cut with this drive! There is ZERO performance hits that I noticed with this - only performance increases and a CONSISTENT performance throughout all testing! Photoshop loads a lot quicker. Vegas Pro loads quicker. Even GTA V loads quicker! I am running a 32" at 1440P. I am glad that when I was picking up the Samsung (before I placed this order!), I returned it right then and there, as I saved about $55 and GAINED a whole lot in performance. SK said that they would revise their website and provide a toolbox (they should have had one before launch - for such a large company), but I am HAPPY that I made this purchase and I trusted this brand because they actually design, MANUFACTURE and SUPPLY the memory to other brands, so of course they know what they are doing more than the other brands! I give this the same praise as the pro reviewers do! The performance and the price make this a no contest for other brands! You get the performance (or better) of other brands TOP (most expensive) drives or better - for only $135! Again, SK Hynix MAKES the memory, so that is why they can bring such high quality for so low! If you do not know companies that are involved with the sources of PC components - just trust us and get this!

It's a pretty solid SSD. Just make sure to download the Drive Manager from their site.
I bought this to replace the internal SSD in an Acer Predator Helios 300. The old one worked fine, but I was constantly having to shuffle games around and running out of space. Unscrewing and cracking the casing open on my laptop to get to the NVME slot was a bit nerve-wracking, but it was well worth the effort in the end. It's worth noting that it wasn't all smooth sailing at first. After performing a clean install of Windows 10, completing all the updates, and reinstalling drivers, the new Gold P31 1TB drive was running substantially slower than my older SSD with significantly lower read/write speeds. However, after going to the SK Hynix Gold P31 official page, scrolling all the way to the bottom, downloading the "Drive Manager: Easy Kit" (bottom right corner), installing, and then clicking "Activate Firmware" in the program, everything sped up substantially! I'm not sure what exactly it changed, but it was literally the difference between night and day after performing a restart. At first, I was getting boot times around 15-20 seconds, but immediately after doing this, I was going from hitting the power button to desktop in about 3-5 seconds. I'm somewhat new to PC gaming, so this might be super obvious to most folks, but it was not for me. It didn't help that SK Hynix made it rather difficult to find the Drive Manager on their page. It would be much more convenient if they just had a separate page on the site where you could easily find and access it. All that said, it's working beautifully now, and I'm really happy with the purchase. It was well worth the money, and my laptop has never been running faster!

Fast and responsive
It is fast and responsive, happy with the purchase. I don't have any stability issue with the drive, on par performance as Samsung.
