One quick tap and the lights can go on or off. Then, with you holding your finger on the round tap pad, it will dim and brighten to your desired likeness. I will say, there is a slight "hum" that you hear with the Phillips HUE bulbs that are dim-able and that are LED. I am not sure why. It's not very noticeable but there is one. But, yes they will go off and on with you tapping that round pad. I conveniently installed this to my bed side lamps and then added the touch pad on the top oh my headboard. I can turn the light on and off quickly and its nicely hidden on my mocha colored wooden headboard. **Q: what is the warranty on this item?** A: Sorry I don't know about the warranty but with LED bulbs they would cut off in 15 min. when on high. **Q: The touch pad works and My lamp comes on but goes out** A: For OUR household we found the following - BIGGEST caveat for us with this product: For our floor lamp, we had to ensure we had a dedicated outlet (nothing else plugged in) in order for the touch sensor to work/stay on (otherwise, it would flash on, then immediately turn "off"). #2 caveat - For a regular one-way bulb, "dimmer" capability doesn't function - holding finger on the center the first time powers our lamp on, then touch sensor works for off/on. Holding finger on has no dimmer effect, it just powers it off (when lamp is on), or on. Good luck!! **Q: Will this work for another device... like a desk fan? The plug is really far away meaning I have to crawl under my desk to turn on and off. Thanks!** A: It hardly matters where the plug is. The wire lead on the tapper is extremely long and that is the piece you use to turn it on and off.
