Huge upgrade over UniFi
I absolutely love the Ruckus R650. Itโs been a massive upgrade from the UniFi APs I was running before. The performance difference was obvious right away โ stronger signal, better coverage, and way more consistent connections, especially in spots where UniFi struggled. Ruckus Unleashed is also really nice. Setup was straightforward, no controller or extra hardware to mess with, and once itโs up, it just works. Management is simple, stable, and feels very polished. Overall, WiโFi feels rock solid now. Devices stay connected, speeds are consistent, and I donโt deal with random drops anymore. If youโre coming from UniFi and want something more reliable and powerful, the R650 with Unleashed is a huge step up. Zero regrets.

Works great, is not unleashed.
So.... I didn't know anything about Ruckus. I just knew what I had wasn't good and what I replaced it with was worse. General chats on the interwebs tells me the Ruckus R650 unleashed is great so I got one. Turns out, this one doesn't have the Unleashed firmware pre installed. I'm sure people in the know uh.. know that but I didn't. Not a big deal though, if you are geek enough to understand why you want an AP over the junk a service provider gives you than you can do this. You can download the firmware from Ruckus and reflash it pretty easily but if you get a 9U1-xxxx rather than a 901-xxx you don't have to mess with that. So yeah, it's great! Best I've had so far But if you need Unleashed, it will be a bit easier if you get the correct one.

Buy only if this is the only Ruckus product on your network
If you don't buy this product from an authorized reseller, Ruckus will not help you. Why do you need help? ANWER: Since I have three of this model AP already on my network, yet they are 1.5 years old, the firmware on the new one is different. Using the "Unleashed" dashboard to add a new device is easy if the firmware is the same, but if the newer version manufactured has an updated (or different firmware) then the one listed as "Master" on your network, it will not update. There is a process to do this by connecting it to your laptop, however, you also have to connect it up to a power source. Guess what? This product does not come with a power supply, and the Ruckus Tech support told me to go to an authorized reseller. They wouldn't even tell me the part number of the power supply.

Worked Great after Firmware Updates
The only reason I did not put this as a five is because you needed to do a lot of firmware updates to get the devices to a current working state. Once you got the models current firmware updated then everything was easy to setup and get configured. The setup was easy but getting there out of the box without experience would be hard for a non-network admin that has worked with Ruckus devices in the past. For those needing to get this updated you will need to create an account with Ruckus to be able to download your models firmware. You have to make sure you get the correct firmware for the correct piece of equipment you have.

Perfect Operation - Difficult Beginnings
These are great AP's, but as others have noted, you may have difficulty updating or even accessing the unit depending on its previous life. Note that there is a bug with Firefox which will make it seem like it is not accepting your password (the truth is, it is sending blank fields to the unit). In that case, use another browser. I also had trouble getting mine to factory reset and get Unleash loaded. These units take way longer than you might expect to reset. If you aren't getting the "configure.me" wireless network showing up, or the wireless network is showing up as password-protected, the unit has not been reset, so try again. I ended up having to hold the reset button upwards of 30 seconds. Whether or not that is truly needed, I don't know, but I do know that the standard recommendation of 5-10 seconds did not work. I didn't have trouble locating or downloading the latest Unleashed firmware, though. All I had to do was create an account, so I think Ruckus has relaxed a bit and started allowing non-resellers have access. Once past those humps, configuration was extremely easy. The unit performs absolutely flawlessly, *especially* with Sonos speakers. My previous wireless, changing or starting tracks brought sync delays every single time. With this R650, sync'ing is instant. It's wonderful. I also live in a very poor environment (apartment complex) for RF, and it has done a fantastic job navigating the surrounding electromagnetic mess. All in all, you're going to need to have some measure of technical background... or persistence, resourcefulness, and patience. However, you will be rewarded, especially by not having to pay a reseller their markup.
