Great 65" TV, excellent value. Iffy sound.
The picture is incredible. Previously I had a 55" TCL/Roku TV, set a bit farther away, and I liked it. But I couldn't see the difference between HD and 4K. Well, add 10" and sit a few feet closer, and the difference is striking -- at first I almost got dizzy watching some moving scenes. I went ahead and paid the extra for 4k Netflix and am happy with that. The sound is what I would expect from a thin, light TV like this. Not a lot of bass, not a lot of midrange power & clarity. For the price of this TV you can add a good sound system and still be ahead pricewise. But currently we're watching it without added sound and it's good enough not to be annoying. It's surprising how light such a big TV is. I will be mounting it, and while I know I "should" have help, I probably will do it alone and won't worry. I'm in my 60's in (at best) half decent shape but I don't work out, so you don't need to be an athlete to pick this up. Small, slight people would have trouble. BTW we got this TV because we were very happy with the Roku TCL 55" we got 3 or 4 years ago but need to replace due to moving. The Roku app works fine. My wife says it's a little slow to start a new app; I haven't noticed that. If 5 or 10 years from now the internal Roku just can't handle it due to new software always needing more CPU horsepower or memory, I'll spend $30 and get a Roku stick. Meanwhile it's nice to have just one zapper to do everything. I knocked one star off of "remote" simply because the remote does not have a microphone. You can probably do that using the Roku app. The Roku app isn't the greatest, though; it can't handle certain things if your phone has lots of pictures. (I'd like to set up my photos for screensave mode and the app has that feature but it doesn't work because my phone has too many pictures.) But that's not TCL's fault.

3 year review
After 3 years of use this 55” TV has been great. Had issues with previous TCL Roku TV’s in the past around the 2 year mark, but this one survived and has been going strong. Same great picture quality, and paired with the Alto 6+ sound bar, excellent sound quality as well. Glad I kept coming back to TCL over the years after previous failures because this one is worth it.

First arrived in pieces. Second arrived with dots on the screen. Third is perfect!
I ordered the 50" TCL 5 S535 model on Amazon after having read up on reviews on RTings, a website that reviews TVs and Monitors. The first 50" arrived in multiple pieces, with the metal foot having been smashed into the TV after the box had been significantly damaged and the foot had broken loose from the damaged packing material. (Picture one, the glowing blue nightmare.) Amazon was aces with the replacement, which shipped immediately and arrived in a much better treated box. However, the second one had several dots on the screen, roughly the size of a dime, which were noticeably darker than the rest of the panel. I returned this one for a refund. I ended up purchasing the 55" TCL 5 S535 version locally instead, so I could take it back same day and scream at people if need be. It is slightly bigger than I wanted, but still manageable. The picture quality is great on both models, as they have the exact same panel and internal electronics. It is excellent for video gaming, and the Roku streaming services are amazing. I mounted the TV to a VESA compatible PERLESMITH Universal TV Stand Table Top TV Base (B07XLMQ39D) as I dislike the metal feet and do not have a very wide entertainment console, this worked perfectly. I hooked a Mohu ReLeaf antenna to the TV and picked up ~35 local channels in rural Idaho, with several hundred free channels from the built in streaming services as well, all seamlessly integrated into the process. The device also hooked up to my Google Assistant enabled smart home, however the TV does NOT support Chromecasting, and will require a Google Chromecast at a later date. The Roku Remote Control is easy and intuitive, with the only criticism I have being that the remote has 4 buttons dedicated to streaming services that I do not use, and they cannot be remapped (swapping Disney+ for Amazon Prime Video, for example.) But this is not a huge deal. The big takeaway I would have with this experience is: 1. A non-zero number of these TVs are arriving in bad shape when they arrive. Open and test them immediately. 2. There is a "panel lottery" as the QA process on all TVs is not perfect. Even with the good 55", the 4 corners of the screen are slightly darker, but this is just a reality of this kind of display. 3. Amazon's return process was aces the entire time, although they will want photos handy; I suggest uploading them someplace like imgur or google photos or apple's icloud so they can be readily shared.

A Real Good TV for Price
I am loving this TCL Roku TV. The Roku in the TV works better than the stick I have for my living room TV (non-TCL TV) and the Roku app adds additional functionality I could not find anywhere near the price point of this TV. The picture quality is pretty decent (the LED backlighting is not the best, but you have to be looking for the lighting issues to see them) but everything I use looks great on it even when there are action scenes. Pros: 1.) Great Price! 2.) Decent Quality 3.) Small and simple controller (Pretty much standard Roku) 4.) Roku runs the entire TV 5.) All the apps just work and the TV just works (which I can't say the same for my other way more expensive TV) Cons: 1.) No ability to adjust contrast, color temps, etc (although factory defaults look good) 2.) Has no bluetooth capability built in or any other fancy extras (You can use the Roku app to listen to the TV through a phone or tablet which is how I use it for night time TV watching with wireless bluetooth buds connected to my phone, but the audio is just a little out of alignment...just enough to where I need to tell myself to stop watching lips move. Have not been able to find any settings to set the delay on video or picture to compensate like I can on my pricier living room TV. 3.) Almost no TV related settings to tweak as the Roku operating system does not appear to have the ability to do this. Not surprising for the price of the TV. All in all, at the end of the day I am much much happier with this TV than I am with my "main" TV which is a much pricier TV made by a different company (whose name rhymes with Ram Tongue). It does not have any bells or whistles so for people who love to mess with myriad settings this is not a good TV for them...but if you want a really good TV that just works and is really easy to set up and use, this is the TV for you. A very solid 4 star, bordering on 5 star product. TCL and Roku really made a nice product here that I feel I got more than my moneys worth. I would and will buy again (eyeing the 65" or larger to replace my main TV in the near future)

Late review, but still going strong after 3+ years!
Okay, I’m a little late to the review party, but I’ve had this 65” TCL TV for over 3 years now and figured it deserves some praise. Honestly, it’s been one of the best investments I’ve made for my home setup. The picture quality is still amazing — crisp, vibrant, and perfect for both streaming and gaming. I use it almost daily, and it hasn’t had a single issue. No dead pixels, no weird glitches, nothing. Super smooth with my PS5 and handles 4K content like a champ. Definitely worth the money. Would buy again without hesitation!

Great bang for your buck!
First impressions, just got it today. Bought this TV because it's rated highly compared to the same price range/size of only TVs on the "rtings". I think the TV sounds really good. I have it at like 15-20/100 and that is plenty loud for me, even too loud at times. I'm in a media room btw, not a big open living room setting. The TV also looks good in my opinion. Nothing like an OLED of course, since it's not, but I think those this price and being LED it looks great. I don't notice "halos" or light bleeding into the dark zones. There's a game mode for gamers out there who want less input lag! And I don't even notice the change in visuals that apparently get a little worse when you use game mode which is great for me. TV is nice and big and the screen is pretty much the entire screen. The border is almost flush to the screen and barely there - added picture for reference. I can't say anything about the TV feet it comes with, because I ordered separate universal ones so the TV would fit on my current TV stand. Just from looking at and touching them they seem just like their your standard subpar feet that pretty much every TV comes with these days. It does require you to sign up for a Roku account as well as have internet as far as I know (I didn't see any skip option, but I didn't look too hard either). However, it was a fast and easy signup taking like 1-2min. The part that asks for payment information can be skipped entirely thank goodness. The HDMI, etc ports are at the sides of the TV, with nothing to plug in the middle. This is pretty good if you want to wall mount your TV, as the mount will not interfere with any of the plugs. There is a downside that the angles the HDMIs go in are kind of awkward since my devices are on the opposite side/middle area, but as long as they don't cause damage to the cords I could really care less. Pic of this as well for reference.

Low quality TV with high-end features
Purchased a 50” TCL Series 5 dedicated TV for gaming: love it Purchased 2nd 55” TCL Series 5 for family room: very disappointed. Same great picture, but between the Roku system interface, proprietary features, and the minor cost-cutting designs issues discovered after installation, it’s much better to spend a little more from a legitimate TV vendor then deal with numerous frustrating deficiencies. -No Bluetooth! They provide a 3.5mm jack so I can use my 1986 Sony Walkman wired headphones or purchase proprietary Roku wireless speakers. So my new TCL TV is not compatible with my wireless Bose headphones, wireless Sony Speakers or new security camera system. Auxiliary Bluetooth transmitters are available--at an additional cost. -Difficult to wall mount. The universal wall mounting bracket required a trip to the hardware store to purchase specialized screws. TCL recommended purchasing a bracket only from them. -REQUIRED an active credit card to establish my free account. -The TCL remote sensor is positioned directly on the front of the TV. So if you position a center speaker anywhere in front; it blocks the sensor, which causes the remote to not function. Your only other option is to purchase a $50 IR extender. More wires and more time/ money. The TCL only has one USB port to source the extender power, so to use a remote control, you must sacrifice that port. -Very cheap remote. More expensive remote controls available for an additional cost. -Lack of compatibility. My FIOS cable box remote control does not recognize the TCL brand; I was told TCL is a small-batch vendor and only a generic interface w/ limited features available. -With all the quality-cutting designs and question both the reliability and longevity of this product. I loved the Amazon service w/ their status updates and a dedicated 2-person crew to safely deliver the TV! But my 12 year old Samsung could do more and operate easier than the 2021 TCL TV. Yes it has a nice picture, but the TCL product line is annoying to use and will require additional purchases and time in order for it to actual work. I did much research and the entire TCL Series product line suffers from the same issues. Even a Series 8 will nickel and dime you so use Amazon and bury any other reputable brand.

Phenomenal budget tv
This TCL tv is a better than expected picture quality TV for the price, but that's pretty much what you'd expect from the TCL brand. The picture is more than bright enough for my mostly dark bedroom, and the coloration of the picture is way better than the Hisense H8C tv that I replaced the TCL with... thanks to something called wide color gamut. The black levels are way darker than the Hisense too...jet black opposed to the dark gray...way better contrast. I guess that's where the local dimming zones come into play though... the Hisense didn't have any. The picture quality with HDR (High Dynamic Range) looks jaw droppingly good with 4k blu ray discs...I'm still surprised at how good they look on this tv... regular 1080p Blu-rays look pretty good too. Regular tv coming through the OTA antenna looks good in 1080i, and 720p, and even 480i looks better than my older Hisense... the tv has pretty good upscaling capability. The built in Roku 4k stick works perfectly, and I upgraded the remote to a Roku voice remote pro without any issues whatsoever...no more batteries to buy. I also use the Ethernet port for the built in Roku for very fast performance... no wifi interference. I don't game (too old), so I can't speak on the tv's gaming capabilities. I really don't have anything negative to say about the tv at this point, but I'll keep everyone posted if something major pops up... the brand has a so-so history with reliability, but so far, so good.
