Five star purchase
I'd just like to comment that I think some of the negative reviews miss the point. First or all some discuss being way too firm, and some way too soft, I would suggest that these may be defective products since the mattress I received is neither too firm or soft, and more than just I have laid on it. So I believe it's possible that there are defective units, although it's purely my speculation. More importantly some reviewers have stated that this isn't a five star mattress but rather people were merely impressed with it's delivery and expansion, which clouded their judgement. I disagree, and I disagree because when we review items on Amazon.com we are reviewing it based on all factors. Simply put it's not a five-star mattress, it's not meant to be, that's why the price tag isn't $1,000+ but what it is, is a very comfortable mattress, for very cheap, which comes delivered right to your house (free 2 day shipping with prime, which is just that much better). I write this review as I lay on it, the padding for the top is very soft, and does contour to the body, it's not too firm, it's just right. The only thing which really separates it from a traditional mattress is perhaps the edges are not very firm, meaning if you sit on the edge of the mattress it will compress almost fully, and also if you were to jump with your full weight on the mattress it will compress more than a typical mattress, but in reality neither of these should be issues in the real world. I've used traditional spring mattresses, memory foam, and now this, and this is probably my favorite so far, and when the price and convenience is factored in, it's a no brainer. The only thing I cannot comment on is longevity, but I will update this review down the road commenting on whether it lasted 6+ months. The bottom line is, to everyone else this will be a comfortable quality mattress, it's not gimmicky, it's not some cheap temporary solution like an inflatable, it's a legitimate mattress and before purchasing my issue was believing something this affordable, and something which could be compressed into a duffle bag could be a "real" mattress, well as I lay on it now (and I've had it for a couple weeks), I can say it is a real, comfortable, quality mattress. I wouldn't let the negative reviews scare you from purchasing, if this one caught your eye you're probably on a budget, so don't hesitate just buy it, you wont regret the decision. If you're looking for a mattress comparable to a $1,000+ pillow top, or something, this may not be the "five-star" mattress for you, but for us regular people, it's just great. EDIT: 3 Years later, I still use and enjoy this mattress. I don't disagree with anything I've said, and I've had others buy this mattress who were in need of a cheap, good nights sleep.

The Five Star Reviews Are Not an Exaggeration
It's been about three months now, and I can safely say this mattress is definitely worth the money. This is a very firm mattress, and contrary to what you may have read, it is ready to sleep on the very night you get it. Mine expanded to full height almost instantly. Yes, there is a light "odor", but it is clean and pleasant. The smell lasted a couple of weeks in my case, but nothing offensive. I actually thought the aroma was a nice plus. Some reported that the queen size mattress was a few inches shorter in length. Mine was not. If anything, it has a slight overhang, so perhaps the manufacturer saw the complaints and rectified this already. My fitted sheets fit perfectly with a nice smooth finish. I'm actually a pretty heavy (>270lbs) guy, so sagging was a concern of mine. So far, there doesn't seem to be any. I have been flipping and turning it a little more often than recommended just as a precaution, but after three months, the mattress remains flat and lump-less. Opening the mattress is really exciting and fun. Yes, you have to use scissors to cut off the duffle bag. Don't bother trying to save it. Once you get the duffel off, you have to cut the tape to unroll it. Then you have to cut that inner bag and watch as it practically pops up like an exploding can of muffins! So is this as nice as those thousand dollar pillow top luxury mattresses? Of course not! But does it afford me a good night's sleep for a fifth of the cost? You betcha! Great mattress, great price, and fun to open. What more could you ask for? *UPDATE: I ordered this mattress on November 24, 2014, and today it is April 17, 2016. Guess what? My queen size mattress is still holding up! Keep in mind I'm a pretty big guy that weighs over 270 lbs. I continue to flip the mattress quite regularly, and while there is a small hint of wear in the spots where I lay, the mattress is still supporting my avoirdupois with a firm but comfortable repose. There are still no lumps and still no regrets! *YET ANOTHER UPDATE: So now it's June 22, 2017. I just thought I'd stop back in and let all of you know how the mattress is doing. Still no change to the number of stars. This mattress has been holding up very well for over 2ยฝ years, and it looks great! While there are still no slumps or lumps, I have to admit that it's starting to feel a little less firm than it used to. I still flip and rotate it regularly, and I sleep on it every night. It's very comfortable. If you are on any kind of a budget and need a decent mattress, this is the one to get! I just hope they are still making them whenever mine finally wears out! *JUNE 23, 2020 UPDATE It has been over five and a half years now, and I still stand by my review. The mattress I bought from here has stood the test of time. I'm laying on the mattress as I type this. It might be a little softer than the day I installed it, but it is still comfortable. One thing I thought I'd mention: Early on, I bought a couple of waterproof "bamboo" mattress pads to protect it and wouldn't you know it, the mattress itself still looks like new. It has been over five years though, and the price has gone up. If they are still making them like the one I bought, you are still getting a bargain. Flip it regularly. If you keep it clean, dry, and on a firm support base, this mattress should serve you well for many years. *Final Update, January 8, 2026. It's been 11 years and the mattress has been discontinued. No one is ever going to read this, but I just thought I'd make one last follow up. This mattress is holding up just fine. I sleep on it every night, and it still has plenty of spring in it. I know it sounds incredible, but this mattress has been a reliable blessing. I've kept a mattress protector on it the whole time, so underneath it still looks like new as well. May it last forever.

Great Value.
I have had this mattress for two years now. I wanted to wait it out because so many reviews were from it fresh out of the package. It is comfortable, with the right support. After this substantial amount of time there are some things that I don't like, but it's not a deal breaker. 1. I don't like that it's not very sturdy when you move close to the edges. The sides compress way more than any other mattress I have owned. 2. The springs are very noticeable and stick out a bit along the side of the mattress. 3. I have one spring that just recently started to make it self known by periodically making a faint "boing" sound. Like I mentioned, none are deal breakers because it is over 2 years old and I sleep very comfortably for a fraction of the cost of a big name mattress. I almost gave up on it because I thought it wasn't firm enough to support my back--I have a history of back and neck problems. Turns out all I had to do was place it on a box spring. Before that I had it on slats and it was rough on my lower back. Now, it feels supportive and plush at once. I weigh about 160, and weighed 175 at my heaviest with this bed. My boyfriend and I can sleep in it no problem, but don't know if it would hold up with that much weight on it (he's about 190). For one person it's great. For a child it's even better! I have recommended this mattress to 3 other people who are all using it for their children without any complaints. It's still holding up great and have had zero issues with it. I sleep like a baby with minimal tossing and turning. I wish I would have known about the box spring ahead of time. Finally, the mattress did not have an over powering smell to it. Unless you have a super human sense of smell, or pushed the mattress directly up against your nose, you cannot detect the odor. After 3 days it was completely gone.

Don't Hesitate.
This mattress (as I sit with my legs sprawled across it) inspired me to write my first online review in probably two years (I can get a bit lazy, hence the leg sprawling). I recently graduated from college; moving out of my parents' place and supporting myself and being a contributing member of society and other dumb stuff like that apparently come along with this. So, I moved to my own apartment, and for the first time in my life, had to purchase a bed. As a 22-year-old moving to Chicago to go to grad school with nearly no money, I was thinking cheap. But I had been told that "cheap" is a relative term when you're looking for mattresses; most of my friends had payed upwards of 400 bucks for a "cheap" box spring/mattress set. Thankfully, in a twist of fate, I went to Amazon and searched "mattress." Lo and behold, there's a 180-dolla (sorry folks, price has increased since I bought it) mattress, just sitting there, all like "Hey! Look at me! I'm a mattress! On Amazon.com! Yep! The same site you buy overpriced protein powder and used Stephen King books from!" Needless to say, I did a little research and found the catch I was looking for: it comes shrink-wrapped, rolled up in a duffel bag. "Ummm...yeah, no," I thought. But, just for fun, I went to YouTube and searched something along the lines of "video of unwrapping bed that comes wrapped in plastic that you have to cut open and it inflates itself." After watching a video or two, I was astonished to see that they really do magically turn into a soft-yet-firm, fluffy, plush, bouncy lil' mattress. With the added benefit of knowing I'd be able to watch it inflate before my very eyes, I ordered. After about a month and a half of sitting, sleeping, studying, reading, lounging, laughing, crying (I watched Titanic while laying on it, so sue me), and sulking because I have strep throat on this mattress, I decided it's only fair for me to write a review. Let me tell ya, folks: this mattress rules. I bought the cheapest bed frame from Walmart (which, may I add, is amazing), along with a bed skirt, mattress topper, and jersey sheets from Bed Bath and Beyond, and I swear this is the best bed I've ever slept on. It's soft and bouncy enough to remind you, "Hey! Look at me! I'm a real bed! With real springs! Go ahead, bounce on me!" but it's also firm enough to be like "Hey! Look at me! I provide support for the lower back you complain to all of your friends and family about all day long! I'm not like those lousy air mattresses! Go ahead, lay down and feel my support!" Also, don't listen to the people who complain that you "fall off the side." Yes, there is no wiring around the sides of the mattress, but I sit on the edge of my bed all the time and I wouldn't have ever noticed (I'm a 185 lb male -- yes I do cry from Titanic SO SUE ME). These complaints actually made me nervous about purchasing, but honestly, it's truly negligible. There literally isn't anything I can think of to complain about with this mattress. There were no smells, it's the right size, it supports the weight of two people, the springs don't make any noise, and, most importantly of all, I've had some amazing nights' sleep on this baby. I love sleep and I'm a snob for a comfy bed; I'd highly recommend this one. Disclaimer: Bed does not actually talk.

Bought the Twin size for my daughter - Its AWESOME!
I love it. Its super comfortable - on the medium side (not super soft, not super firm). The price is outstanding, and it shipped in a long duffle bag. We live in a 3rd floor Condo, and the FedEx guy brought it to my door with no problems. To open : you cut open the duffle bag, then remove the plastic wrap. Done & Easy. My husband was sitting on it when he was pulling away the plastic wrapping, and it inflated underneath him - it was hysterical - we did not expect it to inflate that quickly to that size. I guess I expected it to be squishy, like an air mattress as first. But it was firm, a real, regular mattress. However, it was several inches shorter than it was supposed to be. We also ordered a mattress topper for it, so it was obvious, because the topper was hanging off all four edges, but at least two inches longer lengthwise. We left the mattress on the floor for four days because we needed a part for our daughter's new bed, and I am happy to say the mattress expanded on all sides, so that it was the same size as the mattress topper that I bought for it. I may not have noticed the expansion if not for the topper. 1. Extremely comfortable. I bought a memory foam, cool touch topper because my daughter gets extremely hot at night. With the topper, my daughter is extremely happy and sleeps through the night (a first, believe me!), she prefers a soft bed. A topper would be too soft for me in this case. 2. Bed firmness - medium. Very comfortable. 3. Excellent price! Can't beat shipped to your door either. (I received Free shipping with my Prime membership). 4. Expands close to full size immediately, takes 2-3 days to expand the other inch or two length and width 5. Excellent quality, can be used on both sides 6. Highly recommended for children's beds and guest beds. Recommended for an everyday adult bed if you prefer medium firmness. I prefer a firmer bed, so I would pass personally, but would be perfectly happy sleeping on it in a vacation situation. For those of you who prefer a softer bed, buy a mattress topper. With the price of this plus the topper price, you're still paying less than a traditional mattress!

Love My "Poppin' Fresh" Mattress
I started researching mattresses online after making 1 visit to a mattress store. I desperately needed to replace an eleven year old mattress that had become an uncomfortable pillow-topped trench. As many of you have experienced, buying a new mattress is much like buying a new car. The salesman steers you to the most expensive product first while extolling its virtues in an attempt to dazzle you and distract you from a price tag that is much higher than what you had budgeted. And really, what are you going to learn from lying on a mattress for 5 minutes in a store? Other than that it can be an odd and surreal experience. My 1 store visit was so off-putting and unsettling that I decided I would risk an online purchase if only to avoid any more retail outlet aggravation. After much thought, I ordered the queen sized Contour 8. It was delivered in a timely manner to my front door in the biggest duffel bag I have ever seen. I was able to drag it into my living room where it sat for 2 weeks until my neighbor could help me get it upstairs. Keep in mind that the mattress does weigh at least 65 pounds. Once we got it into the bedroom and on top of my original box springs, unpacking it was everything that all the other reviewers have said - easy and amazing. It transformed into a luxurious mattress that seemed much more expensive than the price I paid. My sheets - which never fit on the previous deep pillow-top mattress - now fit properly. There was absolutely no odor of any kind after unpacking. But of course, the most important thing is that I sleep so deeply now that I actually look forward to going to bed! I fall asleep quickly and easily. Even if I wake up in the night, I am back to sleep in minutes. I was initially concerned that the mattress is much firmer than what I had and I may still buy a foam topper for it, but I have not had any aches or pains associated with sleeping on the Contour 8. As a person who is physically active (a runner) and who has a job as a facilitator/trainer, it's important that I sleep well so I can perform at my best. I have told many people about this amazing bed. And yes, when I tell them that I ordered it online, most people react with total skepticism. But after I have sung the praises of the Contour 8, many of them have written down the name and agreed that they need such a bed for a guest room, vacation home, etc. I would purchase this mattress again but for now, I am looking forward to several years of quality sleep and pleasant dreams! P.S. 02/09/14 I want to add some additional thoughts on this mattress. 1. This mattress is shorter than stated in the manufacturer's notes. It is actually 78 inches long, not 80 inches. However, it is the exact same dimensions as my box springs, so this is not a concern for me. Plus, I am using it on a bed frame that has a footboard and the mattress is fine for that. 2. I have not had a problem with heat being retained on this mattress as I did with my previous pillow top mattress. This is a huge relief! I sleep very comfortably! 3. My sleep is very deep on this mattress. So deep, in fact, that I often don't want to get out of bed when my alarm goes off! My cat finds this very annoying. I hope you find this information helpful.

I can easily say I've been on the quest to find the ...
I have actually tried many mattresses on Amazon (I have moved several times in my life to New York, California, Pennsylvania, and Washington so I've needed to purchase new mattresses each time, and my (ex-)girlfriends have also ordered Amazon mattresses. I've also gifted memory foam mattresses to my family members). I can easily say I've been on the quest to find the perfect mattress. This one is by far the best one I've tried. If you prefer a stiff/firm supportive mattress (and have back pain), I really recommend this mattress!!! Here is my breakdown: Tuft & Needle (2/10): It feels like sleeping on the ground, firm but also lots of pressure points, surprisingly the worst I've tried even though I like their "message" as a company -- they really market the @#$! out of these. When it's warm, this mattress is really hot to sleep on, and you feel sweaty and uncomfortable. LUCID by LinenSpa (5/10): Soft, but too much sinking into -- I actually know a lot of people who really love these that prefer soft mattresses over firm mattresses. If you prefer soft mattresses, this is the one to get, even if it's a little spendier. Tempur Pedic Rhapsody (4/10): WAY overpriced, comparable to the 10x cheaper foam mattresses, way too soft, lots of pressure points. I actually did have a lot of back pain with this one, and I thought I could throw money at the problem by getting an esteemed name-brand mattress: Nope. Sleep Innovations Sure Temp (6/10): Still too soft, firmer and more comfortable than the others, but the temperature/humidity really affects the firmness of this one. Sometimes I liked how firm it was, and other times it was too soft. It also did get too hot to sleep on sometimes. Signature Sleep Contour: (9/10) Very good support, no pressure points, very firm. Signature Sleep Memory Foam: (5.5/10) A good balance between soft and firm, but lots of pressure points. It had that "slept on the couch last night" feeling of discomfort upon awakening. Costco Spring Mattress: (7/10) I've learned first hand from this mattress that in order to get a decent mattress, you need to have springs. No pressure points, but not as comfortable as foam. I've learned that mattress manufacturers are really hyping up foam mattresses because they are less expensive to manufacture and significantly cheaper to ship -- which means more profit per mattress sold for them. For a while even, the foam mattresses were sold at a premium under the moniker "memory foam," which makes it sound like you're getting something fancy, high-technology materials that are superior to springs (*ahem* Tempur Pedic -- foam is foam, you're getting the same stuff even if you pay 10x more -- it's like buying the base level Audi instead of the Volkswagen with the highest trim package, they are basically the same car, just different branding). This, of course, is just a deceptive name that allowed them to charge more for a cheaper product to manufacture. Some companies like T&N called them out on this by releasing foam mattresses that were priced more "honestly." Nonetheless, spring mattresses are actually superior for relieving pressure, as we know from freshman physics, springs absorb/dampen energy through so-called "restoring forces" -- remember Hooke's Law? Mattress companies HATE spring mattresses though and they will do everything in their power to hype up the "scientific processes" behind their totally superior "memory foam." Foam is good for a "soft" topper, but as a base to the whole mattress, you're just going to end up with a lot of pressure points because foam just isn't as "springy" as actual springs are (who would have guessed?). So yes, this really is as good as it gets, and the reason is that it is a hybrid coil/foam mattress (I guess you could retrofit a spring mattress into this by adding a foam topper, but you have to be careful which topper you choose because even the LUCID toppers are too soft and create problems as well as help).

A Poor and Shameful Excuse for a Mattress.
Perhaps I should kick myself for being duped into believing that such technology exist that will permit a boxed inflatable mattress to be marketed as a wise purchasing decision, particularly the online variety, which makes returning the product a packaging and logistical nightmare. In hindsight, the entire product offering is counter intuitive. I purchased this soft, malformed roller coaster after reading a very vivid description from an apparently young, post-collegiate purchaser with undoubtedly less comfort requirements than a person of my age. After barely two months of use, this bed is a visual and functional disaster. After diligently going through the unpacking instructions and following accordingly, the bed seemingly inflated fully, but on the first night of sleeping, I swiftly noticed that I began to somewhat sink through the mattress. I am 198 pounds which is apparently greater mass than the mattress can handle. The sinking experience was more noticeable due to the remainder of the mattress being unmoved and level, while the portion that undergirded my body was recessed. Laying upon this mattress is like an awkward, badly coordinated waterbed experience. I allowed someone else to grant their opinion, after laying on the mattress she laughed after also experiencing the sensation of falling-through. I assume the unmoved portion of the mattress is an inbred cliff that is needed to pull-up oneself from the spongy sinkholes. As if the sleeping experience is not bad enough, the visual is downright embarrassing. As a reference, I attached two images of the mattress in its current form. The version without the sheet makes it slightly more difficult to see the indented areas, I therefore used pennies in the indented areas for perspective, and a quarter in the center area, which remains at normal level, above the sinkholes. Any casual observer can tell exactly where I slept on either night because the contour of my body imprint remains, like a sunken cavity. The mattress either has a permanent, never relenting memory, or cheap foam interior that never resuscitates after being laid upon. I have flipped the mattress on four occasions with no improved results. I am certain that the manufacturer will claim there is some solution that can be addressed by more flipping, or perhaps the simplified instructions were not followed โ rubbish. The bottom line is that the "convenience of a rolled" mattress for shipping will cost the consumer a loss of functionality and the very technology that was designed to never be rolled and packed in a box. Perhaps this is the consequence of purchasing a low-cost mattress online, but the claims of the manufacturer are simply false. If they were a brick and mortar store in the vicinity, I would have returned this mattress mockery the very day in which it arrived. I care not to go through the hassle of packing this consumer rip-off for return, so I simply offer this review as a strongly worded and sincere โbuyer bewareโ.
