How long is the battery good for?

Depends on how much your dog barks. I'm still on the first batteries and it's been a couple weeks. I live next to the school and a bus stop, so my dogs still growl until it activates frequently. Normally after the first beep they settle down. Works the way I wanted them to.

Is there any other options for the battery besides the 4LR44

Not that I know of my husband found them in a battery store 8 for 2.00
