So this does not give -local video storage functionality is not compatible with blink xt2,xt-so no backwards compatibility? what a wasted opportunity!

Thank you for asking about our Add-On Sync Module 2! That is correct- the Local Storage functionality on the Sync Module 2 is only compatible with the newer camera models (Blink Video Doorbell, Outdoor, second gen Indoor, and Mini) as they have the necessary hardware and firmware to support its requirements whereas the older model cameras do not. I have a first gen sync module and a legacy account with no monthly cloud fees. if i upgrade to a sync module 2 will i start incurring monthly fees?

I added USB storage to sync module 2 and don’t pay for cloud storage.  It will override previous videos after 7, 14 or 30 days depending on what you choose.

Hi, do the cameras connect to the sync 2 module via wifi? Or do they have their own communication channel?

Own channel and the sync connects to your app through wifi. If you save to a thumb drive on the sync2 you can watch them on the app but will need to remove the drive to watch back on a pc

I have blink xt and blink mini cameras connected to sync module 1. can i insert a flash drive into sync module 1 for local storage...?

Thank you for asking about our Add-On Sync Module 2! The original Sync Module does not support Local Storage. Local Storage functionality is only available on the Sync Module 2 and is only compatible with our newer model devices. With this, if you were to purchase a Sync Module 2, replace your current module with it, and insert a compatible USB drive, the local storage/clip backup functionality would work for only your Mini cameras as they are a newer model. Hope this helps!
