If you need ductless. This is the one
I needed this fan for a bathroom that had a shallow ceiling and needed a duct free ventilation. It was exactly as stated on the add. The installation was simple. The noise level is very low and the suction quality is great.

Easy solution for adding privacy rather than air circulation to half bath
Pros: light, compact. Easy install and hookup Cons: Flimsy material. Cheap filter. Some planning needed if install is not in new construction I purchased this item because it is one of two ductless bathroom fans that I could find on the market (the other is from Broan's NuTone line) and I needed to replace an existing 1960s fan that was never vented out . It seemed to be shipped in good condition. The product is pretty basic - fan, grille, and hardware. it says that a 7 1/4"x7 1/4" rough-in is required for install, but truthfully I needed a much bigger access hole to complete the installation. You will also need about 4" of height. A metal bracket is located and nailed into the ceiling joist. The fan housing is then snapped into the bracket. Position the bracket properly to allow for ceiling drywall thickness and electrical conduit access because the fan housing is not sturdy enough for multiple installs. Electrical access is via one of two punch outs- one in top corner of fan housing and one on side of housing. Take time to think how you will route the electric because I don't recommend knocking out both punch outs as this seemed to weaken the flimsy sheet metal fan housing and allow for distortion. This product doesn't have a light so wiring it up was a breeze (in my case a separate light fixture and this fan are ran from the same switch). I believe this fan works by recirculating air through a filter. The filters are supposed to last 60-90 days and can be ordered from the manufacturer. The filter is very thin on a very flimsy frame and is held in by a clip. The filter fit pretty snug and was in place when the fan was delivered, but after I popped out the punch outs and mounted the fan housing to my ceiling joist, it no longer fit and I had to bend the filter to get it in place (hence my previous comments on flimsiness). This fan is not meant to remove moisture from the air so DO NOT USE in full baths with tub/shower. I think ideal use is in a half bath/powder room in a part of the house with good ventilation. This fan is quieter than other fans I have used in the past, but still loud enough to mask the sounds of nature. Time will tell how long before the filters need to be switched out but since I am expecting low activity and minimal bomb droppage, I am targeting six months or more before changing. Note: the NuTone 682NT looks to be the exact same thing as the 682, but cost almost twice as much. Perhaps it is constructed from better materials or the grille is nicer.

Great Product!
We purchased an older house that had no fan in the bathrooms. I purchased this one after looking at several. It was easy to install & exactly what I was looking for. The fan is about as loud as any other, so no complaints there. Very satisfied & will purchase another when I remodel my other bathroom!

Amazingly cheap
I needed a bathroom fan for an older house without duct vents. Unfortunately, this is the fan that fits the need. This fan is the epitome of poorly designed cheap manufacturing. The metal housing is barely thicker than a soda can so it has sharp edges and doesn’t maintain its structure very well. The wire knockout on top of the housing didn’t have the screw hole drilled correctly so I had to drill it out myself before using that knockout. I didn’t see any wire nuts included in the package. Apparently they need to keep this in the budget category. The charcoal filter is carefully snapped into place and barely held by some subtle metal notches. The overall feel of this fan is not at all for anybody who takes pride in their living space. Due to the small size of the plastic plate, we also have to patch the old opening on three sides of this tiny little cheap fan. On the bright side, the fan does run as expected. And it doesn’t blow into the ceiling, which is the point of this design. I just wish they could make a higher quality version of this fan.

Nice to work with
The original came with a missing piece and it was easy to return and obtain new unit. The unit was easy to install since no duct work involved. Worked like a charm, quiet and does the job well. Caution use work gloves when handling the metal, the edges are sharp.

Was extremely happen to find this exhaust fan for my powder room. I was not able to vent a fan out the roof and this Broan 682 duct free fan was perfect!

I hope the fan works better then the way this needs to be installed. Maybe it is me ? But as i see it the opening needs to be 7.25" square. You need to attach the mounting bracket to a stud, easy enough so far. Now the front edge of the fan needs to hook under a lip on said bracket and it suppose to be able to be pushed into the opening. Being 3 3/4" deep i do not see this happening. Now if indeed it does swing in and it snaps into place, they is NO way to ever remove it again as you need to pry the bracket away from the back clips. I say shame on the manufacturer for a mounting design such as this. I will find another way to mount ONCE I FIRE THS UP TO BE SURE AT LEAST THE MOTOR TURNS ! Broan should know better for the number of years they have been around.
