StarTech 6ft (1.8m) 1-Port FTDI USB to Serial RS232 Adapter Cable with COM Retention, USB to RS232 Adapter - TAA

It has been trouble free. I needed help to figure out how to set it up, but now it is flawless.

Purchased to connect newer windows 10 computer to TEG5000 machine. Once appropriate drivers were installed, it works beautifully. Exactly as advertised and cheaper than other reseller websites!

I am using it to connect my serial port weather station to a Mac Mini. It works natively on my Mac, no drivers to download or install because it uses the FTDI chipset that is supported on Mac OS Sonoma. Hoping it continues to work on Mac OS Sequoia when it is released, but haven't been able to test that yet.

Works great so far!! The fact that it retains the same com port number is super helpful... previous prolific models that I have uses would change the com port number each time you plugged it in, which was a hassle. This is really sturdy, plenty of cord length. Worth the money.

Initially purchased the Gearhead USB to serial converter from a local computer store, to use with my new Dell Inspiron 3000 PC running Windows 8.1. Big mistake! Should have checked reviews in Amazon first. The Gearhead unit came with a driver disk, and on the box it said it was Windows 8 compatible. Wrong. Driver loaded with a Windows alarm in Device Manager, about insufficient virtual memory. Anyway, could not make it work. Returned to store. Ordered the StarTech adaptor from Amazon, recommended by Amazon users, and known to work with Windows 8. Sure enough, when it arrived, plugged the USB end into my Dell and Windows discovered the driver automatically via Windows Update. Did not even need to load the driver from disk.. Worked perfectly, with my Dylos Laser Particle Counter, which only has a serial port. Now plotting particle counts on PC. Six foot cable with Startech adaptor is 6 feet long; important when monitoring counts in real time from the fairly large particle counter, and must set the laptop down somewhere nearby.

We had an older serial to USB cable that my wife used to connect her court reporting machine to her laptop. When we upgraded to Windows 10, It stopped working consistently. After a great deal of research, we discovered that the chipset in the original cable was no longer supported. This new cable was easy to set up and appears to be working flawlessly.

Absolutely flawless! This is the third USB to RS232 Converter I've purchased and this one actually works! Unlike the others. I had to buy this to use with a stepper motor controller and none of the others, which were Prolific PL2303 chipsets, worked. This one is fully customizable and works perfectly with my controller. Not to mention it seems that the PL2303 are not compatible with either win7 or 64-bit systems, not sure which but grab yourself the FTDI chipset and it'll work just fine. Great product, I highly recommend if you need it. Comes with all software and easy installation.

The unit works ok but did not have attachment screws to hold it on the jack. Have to use a rubber band to keep it on!

Der FDTI-Chip spricht für sich, alle Signale stehen zur verfügung, ich benötigte neben RxD und TxD auch RTS und CTS, alles vorhanden und Ausgabe als echtes V.24 Protokoll, +/- 10 Volt, daher muss wohl auch ein Max 232 verbaut sein, Klasse ! Ich steuere damit einen 38 Jahre alten Funkempfänger mit Win 10. Eines der wenigen , die wirklich funktionieren !

Windows 10 installed the driver automatically (no need using the disc). Checked device manager for the assigned COM Port number. Programmed my Puxing PX-888K radios using program version 1.0.4. Works flawlessly, recommended!

Tenia un cable adaptador con el chipset prolific que deje de usar cuando me pase a Win7 pero por circunstancias de la vida tenia que nuevamente utilizarlo con la mala suerte que ya no actualizaba los drivers para en windows 7 entonces decidí comprar con chiptset FTDI para actualizar y no tener mas dolores de cabeza, el producto es genial, apenas conectado en win7, win xp y Linux Mint 15 funcionando al 100%, el envió del articulo muy rápido y bien empaquetado lo recomiendo a pesar del precio, pero vale la pena la inversión.

There are plenty of things that still need to connect with a serial port and neither my PC or my Laptop has one. I needed one for my new Telescope Tracking Mount, to update the firmware. Worked perfectly. It comes with a CD with the drivers, but I did not need it. Win 10 automatically found a driver from somewhere, and all was fine. This is my first StarTech product, and I will be sure to buy from them again. Cable and converter of surprisingly high quality. Great stuff!
