After extensive research I found that stinging Nettle root in this concentration can effectively lower SHBG in men. I've lowered my SHBG from 70 (where anything above 50 is out of norm and detrimental) to 37 in 1 years time. The only thing I did differently was start taking this. So, what is SHBG. Well, many on here are saying stinging nettle helps with libido. It actually doesn't. What it helps with is reducing the Sex hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG). SHBG captures your free testosterone, the testosterone that your body uses, and binds to it, so your body can't use it. The higher your SHBG the harder it is for your body to use free testosterone. For women this can be a good thing, and is healthy, but for men, it is not. Lowering the SHBG means your body has more free testosterone to process, which means your libido goes up, your mood increases, and your ability to put on muscle increases. According to doctors, they don't know how to lower SHBG so they often just Megadose testosterone and hope some gets through for use. By lowering SHBG you give yourself back the testosterone you naturally have, but were not using, or your further enhance and use the testosterone that you are taking. Weirdly enough, this stuff can do this. There is only 1 study that I know of. I know with me, based on my blood work, it absolutely has worked and my doc has suggested it to others when their blood work shows high SHBG.

I have purchased this product from Real Herbs several times and am pleased with the quality and customer service. I am taking this in combination with other supplements for the treatment of BPH which is also being treated with prescription medication. There are various forms of Stinging Nettle including leaf and root and extracts, and even the extracts are not always standardized or standardized across brands the same. Thus, it is very difficult to know what you are getting, and different parts of the plant can be used to treat different symptoms. This Real Herbs product is the root and an extract, and, although it is a bit pricey, at least I trust I am getting the portions I am seeking. Regarding the results, let's be honest. The results are all over the map with in vitro, in vivo, studies on rats, various preparations/dosages, and so forth. Some done on humans do show improved BPH. Stinging Nettle contains a variety of components including beta sitosterol and other plant sterols, but the beta sitosterol is comparatively weak, especially when compare to beta sitosteral supplements. Some research shows no increases in testosterone levels in humans. Yet, others show that the lignans do block the binding of DHT to SHBG, but this should increase circulating DHT. Yet, others show it is a mild 5a-reductase inhibitor, maybe 1/10 that of Finasteride (lowers conversion of testosterone to DHT). It also contains substances which are mild aromatase inhibitors (prevents conversion to estrogen). So, what am I getting at? It is a complex herb, and if the scientific community can't really figure out this stuff, then I doubt Amazon reviewers are much better or at all statistically significant. For me, in combination with other supplements (including beta sitosterol), I believe there is a noticeable difference with BPH, even when used with prescription Finasteride/Dutasteride. I seem to have a slightly less receding hairline, but this could be due to the combination of other products, diet, stress, etc. Note that these results are improved over just using the prescription products alone, so I believe there is merit in this regimen. So, I will conclude that I will continue experimenting with this product. For now, though, I give Real Herbs good credit for providing a quality supplement as stated on the label. There are certainly a lot of lesser, nebulous products that don't even say whether they are root or leaf.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I took a chance on the name brand Real Herbs and its packaging and I'm glad I did. In no time at all after receiving the bottle, I got relief for my prostate and from getting up several times a night to urinate. I also brought the product because at my age of being a senior, started lightly working out again. And taking this brand of Stinging Nettle Root has given me more energy to do so. I had read also that Stinging Nettle Root helps in building testosterone. So I figured that it is where I'm getting added energy. I really like this product and will stick to it. Christ LV, NV
