What is the digital storage capacity of this card?

this has no storage. instead it is intended to put an SSD storage unit to adapt for your computer.

I am using a 1TB SSD connected to this adapter, but not all SSDs are compatible.

note: first upgrade the macbook firmware while using the original SSD and installing the latest version of mac OS it supports. In some cases you may also need to reset the SMC to get the card to be recognized after the firmware update, for the OS to be installed from USB or recovery mode.

NOT Support: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2tb,PM981,950 Pro; Support M.2 NVME/AHCI SSD such as Samsung 960 EVO, Samsung 970 EVO/PRO, WD Black, Crucial P1, HP EX920, ADATA SX8200, Intel 600p series NVME SSD and so on.

I tried a 1tb samsung evo980 plus and the disc is not recognized.  what ssd will work with this adapter and a macbook pro 11.4 a1398 2015 mid year?

I am using a Samsung eco 980 Pro 1TB with the adapter. make sure you reset your SMC

you will shut down the computer and ensure it is plugged to power. 
pese and hold Shift-Control-Option, then the power button for about 10 seconds
release all keys
the light on magsafe will turn orange for a few seconds to indicate the SMC reset was successful.
power on the mac and disk utility on recovery or installer should recognize it now.

if it doesn’t, your specific ssd may not be compatible.
