The Best Smart Bulbs I've Used in Over a Decade of Home Automation
I've been using Philips Hue bulbs for approximately 13 years and recently purchased another 3-pack, which probably tells you everything you need to know about my experience with them. These bulbs are the foundation of my entire smart lighting setup. I use them throughout my home in rooms, zones, scenes, and entertainment areas controlled through a Hue Bridge. The color quality is excellent, the white light ranges from warm and relaxing to bright daylight, and the colors are vibrant without looking harsh or artificial. What continues to impress me most is reliability. In all the years I've been using Hue products, I've never had to replace a Hue bulb because it failed. They consistently respond through the app, voice assistants, automations, and schedules without the connectivity headaches I've experienced with some less expensive smart-home products. I also use Hue Sync for movies, sports, and gaming. Being able to have the lighting react to what's happening on screen creates a much more immersive experience, and these bulbs handle those transitions smoothly. Are they more expensive than many competing smart bulbs? Absolutely. But after more than a decade of ownership, I believe the quality, reliability, and longevity justify the higher price. If you're building a smart home and want lighting that simply works day after day, Philips Hue remains my go-to choice.

Hue lights are phenomenal
I love these hue lights! The more I have the more I love them. Easily controlled by my Amazon Alexa. I love that. I can turn them off, on, dim them, change the colors. Installation was very simple They are easy to set up and it’s easy to create whatever ambience you like.

Excellent quality, worth it if used or on sale
Are they really expensive? Yes. Do they work exceptionally? Yes. Are they worth how expensive they are? At full price, definitely not. However, if you're getting them used or at a steep discount, 100% worth it. I got mine half off as they were used, and the original packaging was torn but they worked immediately out of the box, no imperfections. Synced up immediately, connected to Google and Siri, and all of the color spectrums worked as expected. I will say that I have an existing Hue Bridge and lights in my house already, so getting everything hooked up was seamless. I'm not sure how adequate these lights are without a hue bridge though and using Bluetooth/Wifi. The bulbs themselves are a bit larger and heavier than your average lightbulb because of their internal components but they fit any standard light socket and you're off to the races. I'd say a solid 4.5 stars with the only knock being the price. But if you're able to snag these used or on sale for Prime Day, Black Friday, etc. I'd recommend it!

Superior Smart Lighting – Worth It on Sale
Another Philips Hue review here. Honestly, I only buy open‑box options or wait for Prime Day because the price is steep for my taste. But it’s the ONLY smart lighting system I’ll use. The superiority comes from the Zigbee hub setup. Back when I was using Wi‑Fi bulbs, they constantly searched for a better signal—even when they already had the best connection. With 50 devices on my ultra‑fast 1TB internet, 30 of them were smart bulbs, and the constant chatter bogged everything down. Switching to Hue solved that problem. All the lights connect through a single hub, so my Wi‑Fi is fast again, and the bulbs respond instantly. The color options are excellent, the app is reliable, and the system scales beautifully across the house. Expensive, yes—but if you care about performance and stability, Hue is the smart lighting system to trust.

Excellent mood lighting
I have Hue bulbs throughout my house and I couldn’t be happier with them. These white ambience and color bulbs are great for using in my table lamps and sconces. They give off plenty of light and Philips has tons of light recipes to choose from in their app so you can set the mood according to how you feel. You can also create your own light setting. These light will work with Bluetooth or for a full slate of settings you can connect them with the Hue bridge. If you are going to use more than 10 lights then you must use the bridge. I love these lights and highly recommend them. They aren’t cheap but they are worth it especially if you are just starting out with smart lighting as no other company offers you the quality and variety of lights that Philips does. If you use Apple HomeKit these work great. They also connect to Alexa and Google Assistant for voice control. I personally prefer the security and the user interface of Apple but I have tried it with Alexa as well and was happy with the results. You can’t go wrong with these lights. They work great straight out of the box. Setup is a breeze and you can start using them within minutes. I like that I can program them to turn on when it senses me coming up the driveway so I never have to enter a dark house. You can also set them to turn on and off according to whatever schedule you want. They are truly amazing. Once you buy one you will want more and more of them.

Best bulbs if you can get on sale
If you can get these on sale, do it. I've had wifi bulbs and they constantly disconnected for no reason. I wanted Zigby and these are the best out there but also the most overpriced. But you get quality for the cost. They have never lost connection and they turn off with a dimming effect vs just off which I didn't even know was a feature I'd like. They are way too expensive at regular price but if you can get them on sale, you won't regret it. Only 4 stars though just because of how expensive they are

Works great!
I have these bulbs all over my house and I love them. Great color mixing, good brightness, and reasonable pricing. The HUE app is easy and with the bridge it makes the experience even better!

Easy to Control and Lots of Features
I'm happy with my new lights. Been running them for about a year, and the only negative that I have to say about them is that it's hard to balance between a high lumen output. You don't want too blue, and you don't want too yellow, and it's hard to find that in-between. I got these because I love to have the ability to change to a color of my choice to help with things like sleep, migraines, and motivation. Several studies, including one conducted in 2016, found that green light significantly decreased light sensitivity and reduced the intensity of headaches in migraine sufferers. In contrast, blue light, which is prevalent in many modern light sources like LED screens, has been shown to exacerbate migraine pain due to its higher energy and shorter wavelength. When I wake up in the morning I like to have the lights a nice soft-blue, at 25-40% brightness, until my eyes can adjust. With these lights and the app that PH has, it's easy. You can even set timers to make the lights fade-in, so it's not a sudden blast as soon as your alarm clock goes off. Other times I don't want to turn the lights completely off because I want to watch a movie and still be able to see around the room when I need to get up and use the bathroom or something without opening the app to turn the lights back on or up brighter. So, in that instance, i sent the light to a dim blue light at 8-10% brightness. The real problem with these LED lights lies in the app, which is a bit slow when it comes to connecting to the lights each time you open the app, but it gets there, just have to be patient. Every time you open the app it will do a remote connection to each light individually, and check their status, essentially. Sometimes it happens where the app will see 2 of the LED light bulbs, but the third one it just doesn't connect to for ~30 seconds. Sometimes you even have to fully close the app then try to ping that light again. The physical size difference between a standard light bulb and the PH LED bulbs is noticeable but barely an issue; They fit just fine. They're just slightly taller or same size as other compact LEDs and traditional filament bulbs, but shorter than the A21.

Quality lights with superior colours and range
These are extremely easy to install. You will need a hue bridge which may seem like a bummer but it will ensure that your lights do not slow down your internet. The lights themselves are 5x the price of other bulbs but you are also getting 5x the value. The colours flood and pop more than other bulbs and the range of colours is much broader. The hue app works great and you can even download a program for your computer that syncs your lights to media playing on your pc (gaming and movies). Overall, they are expensive but well worth it. I highly recommend.

Very nice lights and very reliable
I've had this model bulb running for many years now...never a failure and work great with the Hue app. They are more expensive than most, but I've been down the 'cheaper' route...never again.
