EDC Easy as 123
After searching through many brands (Gerber, Benchmade, TacForce, etc.) and many different knives (specifically opening systems and sizes) I landed on the Kershaw Scallion Olive Drab (OD). It fit the bill (ok, I can’t afford $150 knives), looked like it had pretty good quality (it’s a Kershaw after all), and the other reviews were mostly positive. Here’s the good: 1. It’s the perfect EDC (everyday carry) size. I have it clipped in my pocket daily. It’s not bulky and it’s lightweight (it felt a bit heavy at first, because I had another EDC that was made of plastic to compare it to). It doesn’t feel cheap. 2. It’s not flashy. Guys, I didn’t buy the knife to attract attention, rather the opposite. It’s a nice looking knife, but it’s very incognito; perfect for EDC. 3. The Speedsafe. Being able to pull out a knife and open it (and close it) one handed is an essential part of an EDC for me for multiple reasons. A) It’s quick. B) It’s convenient. C) Good for self defense if it comes to that. D) The knife opens with a satisfying click 4. It was sharp right out of the box. It passed the paper test. :) 5. Nice pocket clip. It’s study and the knife isn’t going anywhere. It’s also black so it’s not flashy (see number 2). 6. It has a liner lock which keeps the blade from cutting you during use. 7. The Scallion OD is actually about $70 on Kershaw’s website, so get it here... 8. Made in the USA. It says Speedsafe USA on the knife handle. The meh: 1. Ok, I’m being picky, but you can’t reverse the pocket clip for lefties or to carry the knife tip up. Luckily, I’m a righty, but if you’re not, this might not be the knife for you. 2. If you don’t apply enough pressure, the knife won’t open all the way. Ok, the knife opens smoothly 99 out of 100 times at first. You can’t be dinky when you want to open it. Especially when you’re breaking it in. Don’t freak out if it takes a couple dozen openings to break it in. It opens all the way every time for me now. 3. Ambidextrous thumb studs. Ok, what’s the point of having dual thumb studs when you can’t carry it in the left pocket? Lefties: “Oh, wait just a minute while I take out my knife from my right pocket with my non dominant hand and then switch hands and then open the knife.” Attacker: “Nope, you're dead.” Also, the thumb studs are hard for me to use. I always use the flipper to open the knife. Ok, so that’s it. It’s a very good knife and the good outweighs the mehs. I’ll be carrying this one for a while.

Reliable and Refined: My Long-Term Experience with the Kershaw Scallion Olive Pocketknife
I've been a proud owner of the Kershaw Scallion Olive Pocketknife for about three years now, and it has become an indispensable part of my everyday carry. Despite frequent use, it has maintained its sharpness and resilience, a testament to its high-quality construction. The size of the knife is perfectly balanced – compact enough to be carried discreetly, yet substantial enough to handle a variety of tasks. The simplicity and efficiency of the knife's design are what initially drew me to it, and these qualities continue to impress. The locking mechanism is straightforward and reliable, ensuring safety during use and transport. This knife exemplifies functionality without any unnecessary frills, which I find great. Given my positive experience, I even purchased one for my girlfriend's father last Christmas, and he has become equally fond of it. The Kershaw Scallion's affordability is the cherry on top, making it an excellent choice for anyone in search of a well-made, inexpensive pocket knife. Lord knows you can spend as much as you want on knives, but I prefer something that wouldn't break my heart if I lost it. It strikes the perfect balance between everyday functionality and durability, and I can't recommend it enough. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or simply someone who appreciates a reliable pocket tool, the Kershaw Scallion Olive Pocketknife is a stellar choice that won't disappoint.

What a great little knife this is
What a great little knife this is! I bought it as a smaller EDC than my 3" and 3.75" Benchmades, for dress slacks and other occasions where the larger ones are too bulky. I handled the Scallion, Leek and Chive at a local store, and I liked the size and feel of the Scallion the best. It has better defined stops for your thumb and forefinger, and even though it is small it feels solid in your hand. I added a small paracord lanyard to mine just to extend the grip a little, I like that so far, see pic that accompanies this review. My only complaint is that Kershaw doesn't make a Deep Carry clip, so the butt end of the knife shows a little above the pocket. They also have many colors for the knife, most of which seem to have a silver clip which is too flashy for me. I went with the OD green due to the black clip. The opening is lightning fast, lockup is outstanding, blade is factory sharp enough to cut arm hairs. I chose the aluminum scales for slick egress from my pocket, and they still give a great purchase when in the hand. If you are in the market for a sub-3 inch blade for EDC, this will fit the bill. Great for everyday cutting tasks, and with the speed of open and great stops for your thumb and forefinger I have no doubt it could serve well as a defensive knife if needed. Small enough to be un-noticed in the pocket, large enough to get most jobs done, buy this knife and you'll love it for the purpose it serves!

A Handsome American EDC Knife
I was looking for an American made, every day carry knife that didn't take up much room in my pocket. It needed to be 3" or less, good quality and look like the kind of knife a gentleman would carry. If I'm at work and need to open a box or cut something I don't want to pull out a garish, doodad loaded knife that frightens people. This knife was perfect in every way. It is handsome, comfortable to hold (even with large hands) and has the feel of good solid quality. It flicks open with authority, the lock is tight and the overall fit, finish and feel is just classic. One aspect I particularly like is the curvature of the blade, which seems to make cutting most things effortless, even without serration. One of the main aspects I needed was that it needed to wear comfortably and I can honestly say that I forget I have it on me at times; almost to the point I have to be careful if travelling as to not have it taken by security if I forget I'm wearing it. Although some reviewers have complained that the "in pocket" blade safety lock breaks easily, I have not had any issues so far. I highly recommend this knife as either an everyday carry or as a gift to someone who knows and can appreciate a good quality, American made knife.

Good knife, torsion bar broke after 4 years, Kershaw sent free replacement part
I've had it 4 years now and it's been a great everyday carry knife, I bought two one with the aluminum housing and one with the plastic. The only thing I didn't like about it off hand is that the aluminum housing came with a painted belt clip and the plastic came with a just stainless steel so I swapped them because the plastic one was for work carry. 4 years later the torsion bar on the aluminum housing one broke, now I've fiddled with it opening and closing it many more times then just when I needed the knife. I looked it up and Kershaw knows the torsion bar will wear out and they have a form on there website to request a replacement part for free or you can send it in for them to replace it for free you just cover the shipping. I'm super impressed with a company standing behind a quality product.
