We've recently moved to the mountains and I walk my dog a lot, sondtimes when it's dark in the a.m. and p.m. My neighbors said to get a bell and/or whistle because "bears don't like to be surprised". I don't want you be surprised by a bear...so I've armed myself with this purchase. I must say the quality of the bell and whistle is excellent. The pieces are weighty ( not heavy) and the finish looks expensive. They come with a convenient caribiner- like ring to hook them into a belt loop or fanny pack. The bell sound is very Zen,cand the even whistle is a nice sound ...not ear- splitting. I have only carried it for a few nights so I can't really say yet if it works...but as long as I don't see bears I'll be glad to give the credit to this duo. Nice purchase.

Simple and effective. The bell is loud enough to alert wildlife without being annoying. It feels sturdy and attaches easily to a pack. A small but essential piece of gear for hiking in bear country. Just remember, it’s not a guarantee of safety, so stay alert.

Excellent quality bell with beautiful, clear, crisp sound.

LOUD BELL, GOOD LOOKING. I did have a bell fall off and had to MODIFY the rig. There is a leather connector that got wet from water tank drinking by my Huskie and the leather broke away. I found the bell. I have 4 bells and added A zip tie between the two pieces supplementing the leather strap. The whistle works but I didn't really test it.

Does its job. Well made. However. Its rather annoying after hiking for 6 miles.

UGH, I tried the whistle, it is just a little wind noise coming out. Not loud or scary at all. Gesh, at least let the whistle be good enough to alert someone.

Love the tone of bells. Loud so you think it’ll work. Never saw bears so maybe they do.

La clochette a un beau son très agréable et assez fort pour avertir un ours sauf lorsque nous sommes près d'une rivière dont le courant est bruyant. C'est là que le sifflet devient intéressant. Le sifflet est assez impressionnant et il est très léger. Le son est puissant et strident ... Je suis très content de cet achat.

Bell and key ring - carabiner are solidly made. Bell is loud, and has a clear tone. The bonus whistle is lightweight pot metal, and has a lightweight split ring - but lightweight is good for hiking. Whistle is loud.
