Love Usborne books! They turn mundane concepts into magical reads!

I bought this book for my 7 year old grandson, who very much likes math. I had to get this version, which is British, because the other was too expensive or not available, I forget which. The money references are in pounds, but that just added to the fun of it. He and his little brother sat with me as we read the whole thing over many days. It was a big hit, and I liked reading it myself, so that is probably why it was so popular. I left it with them after my visit and have now purchased other flap books. This format is really good to hold the attention of the iPad generation.

Der Usborne Verlag ist unschlagbar in Kinder-und Sachbuechern. Ich wuenschte es gebe mehr Usborne Buecher, wie in England und in USA. Bildlich vermittlen sie komplexe Themen, die Kinder einfach verstehen koennen. Der Verlag denkt einfach mit und passt sich an wie Kinder es am besten verstehen. Es ist kein langweiliges Buch, dass oft von einem Experten geschrieben wird, aber fuer Kinder unverstaendlich ist.

I got this for my 6 year old daughter as a reference for her now she is doing more in maths lessons at school, although it has some maths that she wont be needing for a long time yet, For example: it has a flap that reads "for any size circle the circumference divided by the diameter always comes out as (the symbol for Pi)" Which i don't think my 6 year old is going to be even told about for years to come yet, however as i was reading it i do think it will give me the snipets to help me rememeber things that will help my daughter when the time comes. There is so much information in this book and it is presented so well with simple explanations. I will be buying other 'see inside' books as i think usborne books are fantastic. In response to another review regarding the wrong answer, my book reads: "Fungus fills half the room. If it doubles every hour, how long before it fills 4 rooms of equal size?" Then under the flap reads "The fungus already fills half a room. In 1 hour it will fill a whole room. In 2 hours it will fill 2 rooms. So in 3 hours it will fill 4 rooms of equal size" Which i believe is correct.
