Expensive but worth it.
Very expensive but very good and worth it. Cool cutting and very smooth sidewalls. This is what other bits desire to copy.

Buy once, cry once
Amazing cutters. Be careful, they are VERY sharp. I am careful to not let them get too hot when drilling but so far still as sharp as the day they showed up. Would swear they take less pressure to drill holes also.

WOW! SHOCKINGLY SHARP!!! Cleanest holes I've ever seen.
Just received my new Fisch Black Shark Pro Wave Cutter Forstner drill bit set in a wood case. Be carewful! These bits will slice you! These bits cur hardwood like butter, and the holes are PERFECT! There is just no way that holes can be more perfect, with zero tearout. The sturdy wood case is a keeper - 8mm 7-plt baltic birch plywood on 6 sides with box jointed corners, and a clear matte finish. Great solid black styrofoam molded interior to hold each bit firmly (not the blow-molded plastic). The only negatives on the case are the cheap little hinges and flip latch, which function well, but are just pressed in place. The bits and the nice case deserve better, so I'm going to replace them immediately (10 minutes). If your budget allows, get this set! It will be your last set, and you will love them! I just wanna keep drilling holes!!!

Excellent Forstner bits, careless manufacturer
I found an online review that compared these Fisch Black Shark Forstner bits to those of two other manufacturers of bits in the same price range. These bits were judged best for the excellent quality of the holes they made. Having used them I agree with the evaluation. Drilling holes in birch-veneered softwood plywood, there was no tearout at all around the edge of the hole and the sides of the hole were extremely smooth. To achieve perfectly smooth holes would have required only a little sanding with 220-grit paper. The bottom of the hole was also smooth and even, no tearout evident there either. The grinding and milling work on the bits is excellent. They come VERY sharp - as in "you'll-cut-your-fingers-if-you-handle-them-carelessly" sharp. They have a little grease on them to prevent rust during shipping. Fisch also makes a sharpening kit for their Forstner bits - it's expensive but allows you to completely resharpen the bits using the kit and a drill press. The bits come in a veneered plywood box with finger-jointed corners and molded black polystyrene inserts (think of black picnic cooler foam) to hold the bits. The bits are well protected - all of the bits were still in their designated locations when the box arrived. I could wish for better metal hinges and latch, but I think the box will do its job for a long time. The bit locations are not labeled, but one could add some paper labels or do what I do, which is to replace the bit with the bit's own label uppermost. Now: the "careless manufacturer" part. Having read other reviews where buyers experienced problems with Fisch bit sets, I opened the set as soon as I received it and checked all the bits. Sure enough, Fisch shipped a set with two 1-1/2" bits, while the 2" bit was missing. It was a good thing they sent two 1-1/2" bits though, because one 1-1/2" bit had a large knick in a cutting edge. Snarl. Hiss. Amazon wanted me to return the entire set, but I was able to contact the seller who quickly sent me a 2" bit. I would have given this set five stars but Fisch's carelessness and the resulting aggravation equals a one-star reduction.

Much easier to drill holes when they are razor sharp like these
Super Sharp, super nice. I have had 2 cheap sets of forstner bits, and they dull really quick, I was going to replace them with good ones once they got dull, but it was easier just to get all the small ones at once. These are much nicer.

Well, wasn't I shocked at how a forstner bit could actually cut?
I have been getting by with big box store brands of wood bits, forstner bits in particular. I didn't know they were lousy, I just had no way of knowing what a proper bit should work like. Like you may have noticed as you're using yours, the cheap bits would get hot, occasionally smoke, and generally not really cut well. So I went on an explore which led me to videos of comparisons of brands. These always ranked best and after using them, I understand why. I have never seen such clean edges or flat bottoms on any bit I've every used before. I was really dumbfounded. They cut effortlessly. The full set is really expensive and I don't have need for all the mid-sized bits that come in the big set. This 7-piece set is all I really need and were very reasonably priced in my opinion. I'm certain these will blow you away with how fast and clean they cut. If you're like me, you'll toss your old ones out as soon as you drill your first hole. 5-star purchase.

These are without doubt the best Forstner bits I've used in 30 years of woodworking. Sharp edges, clean sides, flat bottoms, I have no complaints. These are expensive bits, but if you need near perfect drilled holes, these bits are how you get them. My advise is save for the 16 piece set because I bought the 7 piece first as it was less expensive but I was so impressed by the results that when the price dropped on the 16 piece set I had to get them.

I had been looking to get a set of Forstner bits for sometime. After considering the cheaper brands and reading the reviews I finally took the plunge and went for the Fisch brand. Whilst they are not cheap it is a worthwhile investment, as used correctly Fisch bits will last many years and remain sharp for a long time. This set has a good range of sizes and the wooden storage box is a nice addition to protect your investment.

I got these delivered to me in broken and cracked plastic clamshell packaging with the bits rolling around in the shipping container. It’s like a truck drove over it. I examined the bits which seemed fine and because I’m short on time decided to keep them. I understand the difficulties with logistics due to my own business but is really unacceptable. I would give the drill bits overall more than 3 stars for their quality but can’t with the way they were presented to me. Not an inexpensive item to just sluff off and forget about. I’d like to recommend the tools but if this is how they come, I can’t recommend the purchase.

These Forstner bits are a dream to use, especially in hardwoods (hard maple, cherry, walnut). The wave edge cutters enter cleanly and produce an abundance of shavings (not sawdust) and flat bottom bore holes. I did have to deburr a few of the bits (all minor with just a couple of passes with a very fine diamond strop). The first use probably would have removed any burrs - I would have given them a 4 3/4 rating as at this price point because of the burr but that was not an option. Quality is always less expensive in the long run in my experience and these have definitely earned a place in my shop.
