Board Games Praga Caput Regni , Blue

We got this game maybe a month ago and my husband and I can’t stop wanting to play it again. We hesitated for so long because of the mixed reviews but loved Underwater Cities so it seemed worth trying out. It’s nothing like Underwater Cities which has many of the similar satisfying moves that Praga has but done in an entirely different way. The best part about this game that makes it so addicting is the chain reactions you can cause, making a single move in a turn that sets of multiple other moves can be done as well. (I advance a technology that gives me a bonus window that I can combine with a golden window for a second turn for free which gives me a research tile (the Roman numeral books) that gives me a third turn all in one spin of the action wheel) It’s just the right length for us (we only play two player) that moves quickly and is constantly engaging. Moves my husband makes I’m paying attention to, hoping he doesn’t score the city bonus I’ve been eyeballing for a while or takes the tile i realize will fit perfectly in my strategy. There’s never a dull move you make in this game. It constantly feels rewarding as you build up your engine and progress along the egg bridge. That move that feels like a perfect fit to your puzzle happens every game, whether you win or lose. I’m pretty much convinced after playing underwater cities and praga that Suchy can’t do no wrong. I’m enthusiastic to try Last Will (and I regret that we had Shipyard but got rid of it years ago) or any games he puts out in the future since it seems he knows exactly what board gamers like my husband and I are looking for in the games we play.

It is a very good game, with many ways to score points, trying to articulate the action options, efficiently. In the design of the board and the player boards, with its perforations to put markers / wooden cubes, (with gears to choose actions or keep track of resources), you can enjoy the effort of the designers to provide a unique experience in the game.

I haven’t played the game yet and per the professional reviews I will like it. BUT it arrived damaged and that is always a poor experience. Especially with board games as half the fun revolves around receiving it and going through its contents. Getting a damaged game off the rip is just disappointing to say the least. I will survive for sure but not great.
