PERFECT CHOICE FOR MY DVR
I PURCHASED THIS TO REPLACE A 2.5 AMP P.S. AND (6) 1 AMP P.S.'S WHICH POWERED MY DVR AND 6 CAMERAS. MY SYSTEM IS FINE BUT WANTED TO CLEAN UP WIRING. WHEN I GOT THE UNIT, I CONNECTED THE 7-WAY SPLITTER AND CONNECTED 1 LEAD TO DVR POWER AND 3 LEADS TO CAMERAS. THEN POWERED MY OTHER 4 CAMERAS WITH A 2.5 AMP P.S. AND 4-WAY SPLITTER. IT'S BEEN ONLINE 24/7 FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS NOW AND NOT A GLITCH. I TIE-WRAPPED ALL THE EXCESS CABLE AND IT LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER. VERY GOOD PRICE TOO.

Faulty product
I plugged this unit in with 5 cameras attached to it. The splitter started to melt. It was plugged in for a matter of 4 to 5 days. Woke up one morning and smelled melting plastic and couldn't find where it was coming from. Final after walking out of the house and stepping back into the house with a fresh nose, I was able to find what was causing the burning smell. It left marks in my plaster wall where it melted.I would not buy this product. I don't even know if having all 8 cameras plugged in at once would have helped.

WARNING Fire Hazard
Had to send first one back, must have been defective. Second one plugged in and started working perfectly,. Very satisfied.Update on this item. Item MALFUNCTIONED and could have started a fire in my house. Camera system suddenly went out yesterday. Went to check it out and found the wires had overheated, and burned through. Luckily for me, I had the wires on a noncombustible surface (which had scorch marks). Do NOT buy this item.

Nice power supply.
Nice power supply, as soon as I connected it to my security cameras my picture quality improved. For those of you who may not have electrical knowledge the longer your camera cable the higher the power loss, if you are supplying power from a central location this is very important. If you supply power at the point of use this is not as important, but it is important to insure enough amperage is available for each camera either way. I had a 2 amp power supply on 4 cameras that required .5 amps each typically enough power for the system but at the end of 65' of cable the power loss decreased the quality of the picture eventually causing a camera failure. Considering this was a boxed system purchased as a kit I had not even considered that the power supply might be under powered until I lost a camera and started looking for a cause. This power supply connected to "4" 1 amp cameras will provide 1.5 amps per camera supplying sufficient power at the end of even 100' of cable.

Caused "Ground Loop Lines"
Very disappointed with this item. I purchased two of these for a 16 channel, HD 1080p system. They caused ground loop lines on the cameras they powered. These were used on good quality 60ft cables. See attached photos for screenshoted testing examples.I tried them in different resolutions and got similar results. In HD resolution the lines were somewhat less pronounced but still clearly present (attached pics are of HD screen captures). In lower resolutions the lines were far more pronounced. If I used the individual power adapters provided with the system I installed, I had no video issues and no ground loop horizontal linesThe price was great for these adapters and the idea of eliminating the manufacturer supplied 16 individual power supplies would be great but not at the expense of poor quality video with ground loop lines. I'll try and find some other power supplies that will not cause these issues.

Failed after four weeks
I work remotely for up to two months at a time and, for peace of mind and improved security for my wife and kids, I set my wife up with a security camera system which covers the entire perimeter of the house; widows, doors and approaches are all covered. Now, when the little woman hears a bump in the night, rather than stumbling around with a weapon and flashlight and possibly encountering a criminal blindly, she can simply view the camera display and decide on the propper course of action. Not good for bad guys when the setup works (wife is faster with her 38 super than she is with a phone; actually impressive to watch her dingging steel, she's frikken fast! ...which is sexy, which is why I married her, but I digress). The problem: I got everything up and running, kissed the wife and kids goodbye and went off to earn our daily bread. Four weeks into it I get an email saying the cam system is down. On my return home, a month after that, I found two things - 1. A dead power supply unit and 2. A damaged dead bolt and door jamb on our back porch. Some miserable sack of fecal matter had tried to pry his way into our house at some time in the night and we didn't get it on cam because this flimsy power pack burned out on us. Imagine how I felt.I shall refrain from expressing further opinion on this item in consideration of the fact that this is a public forum with mixed company in attendance. Pick your curse words and apply liberally. Do buy something else.

Really great power supply
Good power supply & unlike the Xenocam brand, this unit comes with the 110v power cord to plug it into a wall socket. Be careful what & from who you purchase these adapters. Some like the Xenocam are replacement units only & you must use the old power cord to plug it into a 110-220v wall socket. This item comes with a power cord & is powering 8 cameras & no problems. I couldn't use the Xenocam power supply because the power cord on my old power supply was an attached cord & not a removable cord that plugs into the wall & also has a female end to plug into the power supply.

I would have really liked to see some certification
It solves the problem of what to do with all those wall-warts when you expand. You can replace eight of them with this. The only reason I deducted a star is that it lacks "certification" from a recognized testing lab. While certification isn't a guarantee of safety and lack of it doesn't mean that it's less than perfectly safe, it does imply processes and procedures that should result in a consistently safe product. Considering how this is intended for continuous duty in a remote, concealed location, I would have really liked to see some certification.
