Is bass and treble adjustable?

They are adjustable, but don't expect a lot out of the existing speakers. I replaced the existing speakers with a pair of Polk Audio speakers (same size) and bought a powered sub-woofer. System can now rattle the walls! Probably could have done without the sub-woofer but got a really good deal on it. I really like the system because it is compact and the Bluetooth is great for streaming audio.

What is the difference berween the "high resolution" and "standard audio" systems?

The ‘high resolution player’ moniker refers to the fact that it can play higher quality music files that contain much more information within their coding as opposed to regular resolution players. Case in point: a ‘high res’ player will typically play files at around 24 bits and 192khz, which is the sample rate, or in other words how much data it processes and how often it processes that amount per second every second, while ‘low res’ units will not do even close to half of that. What that means is that you get a lot more info that’s actually translated into sound that you will be able to hear, whereas with lower sampling rates what you get is reall just more or less an approximation of what the decoding software believes that the artist(s) originally recorded, so with high res music you get all the little nuances the musician(s) intended for the listener to hear. Also, most of the time, though not all of the time, ‘high res’ players most times usually even have an extended frequency range as compared to the more common ‘low res’ players. However, all components of a system have to be rated for ‘high res’ to actually GET ‘high res,’ as in the user needs to actually own high res music files and the player needs to have the necessary processors to decode those high res files, as well as the speakers and all the cabling connecting the speakers to the rest of the system also need to be up to a certain minimum standard to handle the final form of information that the music is transcribed to after it gets processed by the digital-to-analog converter inside the main unit/player.

Does this unit feature cd looping? does it play the complete cd on replay?

Yes -- you can play one track, all tracks, or a programmed sequence of tracks, for continuous replay. If you do get this system, be sure to buy the extended warranty. It's an excellent little system with a lot of features, but your display is likely to fail (see the other reviews).

Does this really have flac lossless format support? description here says yes, but downloaded manual and has no mention of it. has anyone tried?

Yes, it does support flac lossless format 16/24 bits out of box (and of course mp3 too), you can play flac files from usb drives. It can read only Fat16/32 usb memory sticks.
