Does the laptop sleeve have a false bottom? By false bottom I mean does the bottom of the laptop sleeve have a space from the bottom of the backpack?

No it does not. Extends all the way down.

Can it fit 16" Macbook?

I believe it is designed to fit all and any laptops or notebooks, including the 16" Macbook.

How thin is this empty?

A few inches, maybe… it easily collapses when there is nothing in the bag. Easy for storage or putting in my luggage for travel if I’m not using thru the TSA. Good luck!
