Its the first time I purchased this Beard balm from Mountaineer. I have been using it for about 4 months and really like it. I like the scent a lot. The timber smells like freshly cut pine or fir. The scent fades in 10 minutes or so. It does give my beard a bit of a shine, without it being greasy. It does give some hold or control to my beard but its probably not what you want if you really need massive control. I am thinking of trying the Heavy duty beard balm in the same scent, but I would buy the regular balm again. My beard is a good four or more inches in length. What I like about this stuff is that it gives my beard a bit of hold but at the same time lets it do its own thing, and yet it looks good. I had been using Honest Amish beard wax , that's all I've used before this, other than olive oil, coconut oil or hair gel at times. The Honest Amish beard wax does offer very good hold and shaping ability, and for that I liked it, but I am tired of the fragrance. Also again the balm gives a bit of shine, the wax or at least the Honest Amish beard wax does not. Their balm may be good when it comes to that, but I don't know.

I just got this today and usually i try to wait a while to write reviews, but this stuff is too good to wait. Yes I'm in a good mood right now cuz it's Friday, but this stuff is awesome. Its one of those things where as soon as you put in on you're like yep that's what I was looking for. So to back up i did some poking around trying to figure out if i should get beard balm, oil, or conditioner. I tried some cheaper leave in conditioner that really wasn't doin' it for me so after deciding dropping a little coin would be necessary I went for this. I never did end up trying oil and don't know that i will. I really didn't want my beard to feel wet and it doesn't feel that way at all with this balm, just nice and smooth. I chose this product because it's all natural and had all the right oils in it, and I love to support our hard workin' brethren one state to the south. So far results are amazing. My beard is soft and combed nicely into place and my face feels amazing. The clove really comes out in the citrus spice so take their scents seriously because they're not faint. You will definitely notice the smell. It's fall right now so this scent compliments the season well and I'm very happy with it. I was worried about ease of application vs. an oil or conditioner but it was a total non issue. I've had this in for 5 hours now and it feels like the first minute I put it in. The conditioner i tried lost effect in about 30 min. Only complaint is the tin top doesn't fit very tightly so I don't know how sealed up it is, but on the flip side it's real easy to open.

This is for the WV Timber scent. This is my absolute favorite beard balm so far. It has just the right consistency for hydration, shine, and styling for my 2-3 inch beard. You may have to rub it between your fingers a bit before applying to melt/blend some of the granules that may form. I comb some in every morning and it tames the stray hairs for the rest of the day. It uses all natural ingredients and is made in USA, unlike some of the similar looking balms on here that are lowkey made in China with who knows what. Looks to be a small business too, which I prefer over soulless, cost-cutting, giant corporations. If you want to smell like hiking through a lush evergreen forest after a Spring rain, perhaps with a touch of sawdust from crafting something on your workbench, the WV Timber scent is for you. It may seem strong at first, but quickly dissipates to a faint, but masculine scent that would be nearly undetectable except to maybe yourself and anyone who gets REAL close to your face (please remain 6ft away from me at all times for the foreseeable future though). A little goes a long way so it tends to last me a couple of months at least.

Over the years and many beard products leads to knowing that their is not just one beard product for every occasion and season. I cant say that their is anything bad about this beard product. What it is- Very soft goes on as easy as a beard butter. for aesthetics I recommend applying in smaller amounts few times a day as supposed to 1 or 2 heavy uses. Medium shine. feels great on the skin, hands, elbows face etc. The smell is exactly as advertised on the back of the can, it says orange, clove, that's exactly the smell, no mystery. The smell is a bit stronger than some and I've noticed that like all brands , let the can breathe a few minutes before applying, work it into your hands, then apply, don't just glob it on your upper lip an chin. A hot water rinse refreshes your beard for the next days application easy enough. What it isn't - A balm that lasts all day it is not, It is soft as a butter, it has little hold, the smell can be stronger than you want first ,thing in the morning. The build up after 3 uses can start to look greasy. I would say that this is a better cooler weather balm, in the heat you will get out of shape faster with this stuff than with a thicker style. Personally- I love the smell, I recommend this for those that want a more natural less clean cut beard look. I believe that this will be my holiday season favorite balm this year. However, it doesn't replace any thing else that I keep in my current arsenal but I will probably go through this can before the end November even though I have 6 other cans that I also like. This is not a good business attire no fuss balm for the day unless your beard is really short.

I love this beard balm! It's part of my routine now, I have the Mountaineer beard wash and oil, too. And I use the beard wash in the shower and after I dry off I rub some of the beard oil in my beard and then I rub some of the beard balm in, and I definitely notice that my beard is softer now. Before using these Mountaineer beard products I was experiencing an itchy dry skin underneath my beard for a while and I don't have that anymore. I like the scent. It's not overpowering in the least bit, So basically you only smell it when you put it on and then you never smell it again all day, which is a good thing in my opinion. To be honest I haven't used many beard balms out there, but I don't think I'll be buying any other ones because this one does a good job, I like the way it smells, it makes my beard softer, I like the creamy texture of it once you've warmed it up in your hands, and It's just really nice to know the product you're using is all natural, and you're supporting a small company. So yeah, this is my go to bearded and mustache brand and I'm just taking the time to let you know you should try it!

With a name like pine tar, you would expect a pine scent. Smells more like citrus, than pine. Good lather and workability. Not worth the extra $ compared to other brands.

Smells great. Helps prevent itchiness and dry, flaky skin under my beard. Applies well and does not seem to melt out like some other brands I've tried. It also keeps my beard about as soft as it can be considering the coarseness of my facial hair. Highly recommend!

Great product, works as described and is all natural!

I have extremely wiry facial hair. It tamed it down quite a bit, worked in nicely, smells great. Not too odourous like some other reviews have stated. 👍🏻
