Vaultz Portable File Box - 17.5 x 14 x 12.5 Inch Legal/Letter Size Storage Box with Dual-Combination Locking for Document Filing and Organization

This is a very large chest but it is exactly what I wanted which is to store tax files a year at a time.The outside dimensions of the chest including handles, locks and hinges are 17.5 W X 13.75 D X 12.5 H inches. Another critical dimension not mentioned is the height with the lid fully open which is 25.25 inches.You might want to tape up a cardboard model to get an idea of the size and try fitting it into the spot where it will be stored. I own a fireproof lock box that I keep more important stuff in so I was not concerned about locking it. I didn't even remove the nylon zip ties after it arrived .95% of the locks in the world can be defeated with a hammer or a screwdriver or a combination of both. You could bolt a half inch thick padlock to this and one smack would break the box. Every day bolt cutters and reciprocating saws are used to defeat padlocks that cost as much as this box. Sturdiness is ultimately a factor of price.Like the automakers who led the way in making plastic look like metal be warned that the "aluminum " looking trim is plastic. This is not a solid metal box and the price reflects just that. It is well made, handy and does the job for me.I It also works in one direction for letter size and the other way for legal size files. There is a slight disadvantage to the letter size size since you have to open the lid completely to remove a file. Depending on where you store this box that could be a factor since you may have to take it out completely and then turn it to open it up.I can see a lot of other uses for this box as well ; tackle ,fishing reel storage ..any light bulky items.

Holds my document securely

Purchased 2 items. Both arrived built to the same standard. Key info for other buyers - Some of the positive reviews here must be fake, we simply don't understand how people can be rating these items with 4 and 5 stars. - Not sturdy in any sense of the word, the materials are cheap, the rivets some of them were loose/falling out. The metalwork is incredibly thin and would deform very easily with light use - Both cases did not sit flat on the floor, they were unevenly made... imagine a table with one leg too short. Teh boxes wobble. - Standard Foolscap files did not fit in naturally, the case was just a little too narrow, you had to force them in, such that they would sit extremely tight and would only glide forward/backward along the rails of the case if you had the file diagnoally orenited. (picture shows how a foolscap file would land (sit) if lowered naturally into the case) - The ends of the rails looks like theyve been snapped by hand rather than machined/cut to the correct sizes. As a result, there is sharp metal exposed within the case (as pictured) Positive points: - The locking mechanism works relaibly, although the combination wheels only roll down, they get jammed if you try to roll them upwards (cheap). - -
