I'm fortunate to have a grandson with an inquisitive mind who loves discovering new things. I got this set to try and see how well he adapts to the unexpected, and I was extremely pleased. He's a six-year-old boy who seems to be attracted to the logical things more so than the emotional things. We sat down and started making simple circuits, and right away, he developed an endless string of questions that included the phrase “ what if. “ From there, we spent a couple of hours developing different circuits for the lights, diodes, and motor on three or four occasions. I was thinking about making this type of set for him over the last year or so but found that this pre-made one includes enough to spark interest in the child, and thus, it is well worth the money. For a beginner set, you get enough materials to at least spark a child's interest. The connection points along the knife switches are sturdy, and the terminals screw in tightly enough without any fear of damage or breakage in the items. The terminations on the wires are well-made, and the lamp bases work perfectly. The propeller is a little snug on the motor shaft, but for the price of the kit, you just can't be the spark that will result. I highly recommend this set for anyone who has access to a child that's four years old or older.

Perfect for demonstration purposes for little ones!

We found it satisfactory and a good learning resource. However, there were two issues. It came with 5 small light bulbs as shown but one of them didn't work. Also, the compass doesn't work properly. The needle doesn't point north like it should. Just the opposite in fact.

Great teaching aid to help students understand circuits

Nice kit generally, but the red LEDs are defective. To keep an LED from burning out with a 3-volt supply, it needs to have about 150 ohms in series. These red LEDs lack the series resistor. The result is that the LED burns out almost instantly if you hook it up to the two AA cells in series. I had this happen with two of these kits and with the starting LED and the spare LED.

I recently purchased 4 sets to use in a training where the adults (students) are learning about basic circuits and relay logic. This kit really helps students visualize the circuits and grasp the concepts so much easier!

This kit is a good starter kit for kids. Its all plastic and in fact a piece of plastic from the crank generator broke off on day 2 of its use. The compass is goofy, it spins around even when its sitting on a table with nothing touching it. Overall, I'd recommend it to get kids started on learning basic electrical circuits.
