These are the best temperature sensors ever. I have had two working for the last three years with no issues ever. I just bought the new one that has ac backup power. The setup was easier than any other similar wi fi based product that I have ever used - excellent. The application on your phone for sensor data, alerts and such is very well designed and intuitive. I love the ability to change time scales on the data shown, and look at old data as well. The system is robust to power and wi-fi outages, always comes back online. With the lithium batteries, I get a year plus of life on the default once per hour data update. I used to pay over 30 dollars a month for a cellular network based product when I did not have wifi at my 2nd house. I decided to just take that money and use toward the cost of wi-fi and have all the other benefits of having wifi. Paying up front in the sensor price for the monitoring is the way to go in the long run - one less bill to deal with and cost to increase. The price for the sensor is very reasonable. The ac version comes with the usb power supply and cable.

I used this thing to check if my fridge was staying cool enough. It's really easy to set up, there's step-by-step instructions included and even somebody who is clueless like myself could do it. I did have a problem accessing the setup page but that's because I had a bad browser on my phone (Opera) and switching to a normal browser like Firefox fixed the logging in problem. When you open the app on your phone you get a nice graph of the temperature and humidity. You can pick the time range in days/weeks to look at it historically, including the last 24 hours. You can click on data points to see the exact temperature and humidity at that point but it also reports the highs, lows, and average. What I like is the simplicity of the app: no ads, no nagging, easy to use. It just shows you info and that's it, exactly as it should be. The software developers that made this thing should be commended for sticking with a "keep it simple" philosophy because it's so easy to use. About privacy you do have to register an account with Ideal Sciences (Temp Stick creator) but they don't want any info other than a user name and password. And you do have to give the Temp Stick device your WiFi password so it can join the network, which is understandable. I can't find any information about their privacy policy or security policy though -- no reason to doubt them and maybe I'm not looking in the right place, but I would like to know more about that. My wish list for improvements would be: 1. Some way to pinch to zoom in/out on the graph and scroll left and right through it. 2. Able to look at the last N hours instead of 24 hours. These are minor issues though. For fridge users, my experience is that every time the door opens the humidity goes up, and if you accidentally leave the door ajar the humidity stays up. So the humidity graph is a great thing to check first to see when the door was open. Then check the temp graph at the same location. What I learned from using the Temp Stick is that my fridge is just fine, but putting warm food in really does make it work harder and I need to set the cooling level a little lower than I thought. I'd never know otherwise! Anyway the Temp Stick is a little pricey but in my experience it's 100% reliably, easy to set up, easy to use, and very, very convenient.

The battery life is okay, but there is nothing better than plugging into an AC outlet. I'm including a link for an AC adapter that works great with the Temp Stick. You of course need an outlet near by. Use the "dummy" batteries for set-up. The one with the cord attached is the one you will pull out 6 times to enter set up. You can also just plug and unplug the barrel connector (part of the AC adapter kit) 6 times to put the Temp Stick in set up mode. I drilled a hole the width of the thin ribbon cable in the corner of the battery compartment cover that connects to the one dummy battery and leads to the plug part of the adapter. This will keep the cable from getting damaged. If you are looking at the front face of the Temp Stick / battery cover, I drilled the hole in the bottom left part of the battery compartment cover. The dummy battery with the wire is then placed on the left side of the battery compartment, and you can run the cable through the hole in the cover. You will have to snip the edge of the hole you drilled to create a gap to slip the cable through. It's possible to close the battery cover on the ribbon cable without drilling a hole, but I didn't want to risk damaging the cable. I have had these plugged in and running for weeks now. The work great. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B096NCTFSG?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I have 7 walk-in coolers and countless commercial refrigerators running 24/7. I'm in the process of having a new walk-in installed currently, and got a quote for a remote temperature monitoring system from the manufacturer. The unit was quoted at $720.00. Many of these require monthly monitoring contracts. Temp Stick takes about 5 minutes to set-up and mount (some of the easiest tech to deploy in recent memory). The wireless radio seems robust, and I've had zero issues installing these inside walk-in coolers and connecting and staying connected to my wireless networks. You can do it all from your smartphone. The online portal is free (just like the phone app). I also have some Emerson Sensi smart thermostats (that are also a great value and are very intuitive to use). The only complaint on those is that the phone app is free, but the online portal (actual computer access) is $1.00 a month per thermostat. Temp Stick gives you both for free. The Temp Stick app and online portal give tons of valuable information, and battery status is included in that info (so you will know when to replace the batteries before they die). I haven't imagined a feature that I would like that is not included. Very thoughtful execution on the product and the customer facing interface. I've had many refrigerators and walk-ins break down overnight, only to show up in the morning to find thousands of dollars of food spoiled. It's a really bad start to the day. If Temp Stick saves me only one time by alerting me to a failed cooler (and it will), it will pay for all seven Temp Stick purchases in one fell swoop. Great product.

I bought this product to keep an eye on my second home after I did some emergency repairs on the furnace and needed to be sure that it was running properly. The Temp Stick worked fine for one week, but now it's "off line" with no earthly indication of what might be wrong. Here I am 200 miles away wondering whether I need to go check on the house because it burned down, because my Internet service crapped out, or because the Temp Stick failed. My bet is on the Temp Stick failing, so it gets one star until I go find out for sure. Update on March 9: I finally made it to the house tonight and spent a half hour trying various combinations of cycling its power switch, removing and replacing its batteries, and pressing the reset button. Nothing I did would bring it back on line. Finally, I reset my router (no change) and then used the phone app to change the router assignment for the Temp Stick. Before I could finish the procedure, it recognized the router and went back on line. As others have pointed out, this product is useless to most of us buyers if it fails to maintain internet connectivity and requires in-person intervention to solve the problem. I see that the ol' Temp Stick has been racking up a bunch of 1-star ratings, and I suspect it will be receiving quite a few more. To those who have given it high ratings, I say good luck--you'll need it. And to those who are thinking of buying one based on the high ratings, I say that you have better and more affordable choices. If you are thinking of using this product just to monitor indoor temperature and be sure that your furnace is working, you would be much better off installing a WiFi-enabled thermostat (for the same or not much more money) and gaining the ability to monitor and control the furnace as well. I am going to take that approach myself.

REVISED REVIEW - After my initial review (below), I received both a voicemail and email from Gavin Miller who apologized profusely for the fact that I had received a version 1 item and also for the fact that the customer service individual I dealt with did not immediately escalate my concerns; apparently that customer service agent was very new. Gavin offered to send me a version 2 item at no cost so that I could try it out. I received the version 2 within a few days and the instruction pamphlet was also a new pamphlet (the one I previously received was not a good instruction pamphlet) which was much more user friendly. The version 2 was much easier to both set up and use. The on/off switch was an essential change (not sure why the version 1 didn't have one) . I was able to use the QR code in the pamphlet to download their App and to use the QR code in the battery cover to pair the device with my Wifi. I had the device and the App completely set up within less than 10 minutes, which is very acceptable. I put this unit in one of my freezers that had a different unit (one I purchased after I returned my initial order from Tempstick) to see if the units would register the same or differently - both measured both temperature and humidity exactly the same. In the end, the only real difference in the Tempstick and the other unit I purchased is that the Tempstick has unlimited text and email alerts when the temperature and/or humidity are out of the range you set and the other unit has only 20 text alerts per month (and unlimited email alert). I don't know if there is any difference in customer service because I did not have to contact customer service with the other product. That said, the other product goes for $65 for 2 units and Tempstick is $149 for 1 unit, so that is a big difference in price. I do appreciate the fact that Tempstick immediately tried to 'make it right' once they became aware of my issue. Between the ease of use and the good follow-up of customer service, I was able to change my rating to 4 stars (from 2). If the price were more competitive, I would have given 5 stars now. INITIAL REVIEW: So these sounded great and despite the price I ordered two for my freezers that have 900 lbs of beef. When I got them, I opened the first one, followed the instructions and it would not turn on. I tested the lithium batteries and they were fine. I opened the second one and had the same problem. I called tech support and he said there was a little on/off switch on the top that needed to be turned on - ok, simple - I turned it on and it worked. I went to turn the second one on and there was no switch! I called tech support and after a considerable time and my description of the front of the item and the serial number, he indicated that I had an old version (version 1) and a new version (version 2). He indicated that to turn on the older version I would need to insert the battery and then . . . get this . . . take one battery out and then put it back in 6 TIMES! He indicated this was one of the changes in version 2. I inquired as to why I received an old version and he said it was 'an Amazon issue'. I told him for $149 each it was his issue! He indicated that he would 'talk to the team' tomorrow and get back to me. Okay - so be it. I followed the instructions on the second unit; downloaded the app, got everything set up and it took a test reading in the house (which was accurate). I confirmed on the app that all was working including the wi-fi and put it in the freezer. I had set it to take readings every 30 minutes. When 30 minutes went by I checked the app and there was no additional reading. It showed the wi-fi was working and had a good signal strength but that the stick itself was 'offline'. I took it out of the freezer and tried to get it to go back online, but to no avail. I tried doing a factory reset, but that changed nothing. I changed the batteries and that did nothing. So - both units are being returned and I will look for a different freezer alarm. For the price of these things they should work as advertised but clearly don't. Based on reviews, if you just want to hang them in your house, they may work. I can tell you that in a freezer, they don't. Good luck if you order - you may get version 1 or you may get version 2.
