What is the width of the tip in inches?

It's a 0.5mm tip radius, so the diameter in inches at the tip is 1/25.4cm or 0.0155"If it helps this is a nice coarse tip which is good for generic soldering applications. This includes wires, through hole components, drag soldering for SOIC/TSSOP works OK with this also. Unless you're working with with parts very close to each other this will be fine. My three common tips are a very fine pitch chisel, a coarse chisel, and this tip.

What is the shank diameter on this tip?

It fits my FX-8801 perfectly. If you're looking to slip it into something else, my caliper says 6.83mm or 0.269"
