Buy Reef Fishes of the Coral Triangle: Reef ID Books (Coral Reef Academy: Indo-Pacific Photo Guides) on desertcart.com โ FREE SHIPPING on qualified orders Review: Helpful Kindle edition โ seems comprehensive - I used the Kindle version of this book after a trip to New Britain in the Bismarck Archipelago to identify hundreds of species of fish in my photos. I used it mostly as a supplement โ when I could not identify the fish from the photos in my hard copy of "Reef Fish Identification: Tropical Pacific" by Gerald Allen, et al. In several instances I was able to identify the fish in the Ryanskiy book when I could not in the other book. I don't think the book is superior to the Allen book, but it is just that different photos are going to show fish differently at different life stages, etc., so the more photos you look at the better your chances of successfully identifying the fish. I did not find any fish that were "missing" from the Ryanskiy book. Nevertheless, I prefer the Allen book as my primary source for identification because it includes habitat and depth information for each fish, which helps with identification. Ryanskiy just includes range, size, and distinguishing visual characteristics. The Allen book also groups similar looking fish together to allow quicker identification, Ryanskiy groups them taxonomically. But only Ryanskiy comes in a Kindle version โ so it is more economical and obviously lighter to travel with. The Kindle version works acceptably well. I mostly just tapped the search function to find what I am looking for; but the table of contents also has links to each family.
