Is this a hero 25k sensor like the title and description say, or a hero 16k sensor like all the images say?

From what I can tell based on my research reading forums and checking parts sites, there is no hero 25k MX518L. Apparently there was talk of getting an upgrade through G Hub, but it never materialized. So that mean's it's firmware, not the sensor itself. And also means all the G MX518 Legendaries are 16k. For reference, there are three MPNs: 910-005542, 910-005545, 910-005544. These are all the same but have a different model numbers for different international markets. I wish I could could give a more certain answer, but the info is not readily apparent. I was curious about this myself when looking to buy here. Hope that helps.

can the button be programmed to open certain applications in windows?

Yes, you can fully customize every button. You can reassign any button to a different button inlcuding keyboard buttons, you can also make macros, like shift+alt+tab and use it with a single click. There are far more options and tons of features, including other software like discord, steam, etc.

I got 2nd replacement and there is still some secondary noise sometimes when left clicking. Anyone else has it?

I haven't had any issue like that.

Is this MX518 the same dimensions as a G400?

I don't know "close come's to mind"
