The Fluval Edge Prefilter Sponges Also Work On The Aquaclear 20, 30 & 50 Filters
UPDATE: I have been using these Fluval pre-filters for the past few years now, and they really are quite useful in easing the load on an aquarium filter's mechanical filtration. I have these pre-filters on most of my planted aquaria, and I clean them once a week, since the flow is noticeably slower by that time. The fact that the water flow in an aquarium filter can be down to a trickle within a week's time, after installing one of these pre-filters on its intake, should give the reader an idea of their superb filtering ability. These filters are also available on Amazon.com in 3 packs for about $4.88, including shipping. This is the best deal that I have seen on these pre-filters. The reader should also find of interest that while these pre-filters are sold for the Aquaclear 20 filters on the Fluval 6 & 12 gallon Edge aquariums, they can also be used on the intakes of most filters whose diameter is up to a half inch, since these pre-filters will stretch a bit. The key is to clean them weekly so that they maintain good water flow. Until you have used a pre-filter, whether it's the Fluval or one from another aquarium filter manufacturer, you have no idea how beneficial these pre-filters are in easing the job of the mechanical filtration in your aquarium filter. * Notation: In regard to Aquaclear filters, this author also uses an Aquaclear 50 and Aquaclear 70 as dedicated mechanical filters for fine filtering (water polishing) the water in my planted aquaria. I use the AC 50 on the small tanks and the AC 70 on the larger ones, and just move the filters from one tank to the next, after they have been micron filtered. I use the foam block on the bottom of the basket for these filters, with a 25 micron filter pad from Marineland atop this foam block, and an 0.5 micron pad from a wine manufacturer sitting atop the Marineland micron filter. This gives these filters the ability to polish an aquarium's water column as well as a dedicated diatom filter, like a Vortex D-1 or XL; both of which I also have. This setup is for those fishkeepers who don't want to make the investment in a diatom filter, and have a spare Aquaclear filter laying around. Earlier... As a fishkeeper, I have quite a few guppies that are constantly reproducing, as well as a pair of Panda Coryadoras who spawn regularly, producing fry. In the past this led me to purchase a sponge filter that took up quite a bit of room in my *guppy tank. * By the time my Panda Cory's started to spawn, I had already been using the Fluval pre-filters in their aquarium. The small size of the fry also forced me to turn off the hob filter that I was using at the time in my guppy tank, in order to prevent guppy fry from being sucked into its intake. Then I saw these Fluval Edge pre-filters online, and having recalled reading that the Fluval Edge 6 gallon aquarium uses an Aquaclear 20 filter, decided to purchase a few of these pre-filters to install on the Aquaclear 20 filters I was using on my guppy tanks. They have worked out extremely well, reducing the amount of detritus in my Aquaclear filters, while being much quicker to clean. You simply slip the pre-filter off the intake of the Aquaclear filter, rinse it under some tap water, and reinstall it. The entire process takes less than a minute. As such, this author highly recommends the Fluval Edge pre-filter for use on the aforementioned Aquaclear hob filters, as well as any aquarium filter intake tube that has a diameter of 1/2" or less.

Great for diffusing output for betta
Immediately solved my water turbulence issue on the betta tank. We have an ecocube aquarium which I had to replace the pump on and the new one has a higher flow rate. This pre filter fit perfectly over the output to completely diffuse the water so there is no more turbulence and betta is happy.

Helps keep my betta's fins safe
I bought these to cover the intake of my 10 gallon tank's "hang on back" filter for my betta fish. I have read horror stories of betta fins being sucked into the intake of filters and torn all up, so I wanted to prevent that for my little guy! This sponge fits perfectly over the slotted intake, and also catches algae well. When I'm doing water changes and tank cleanings, I just rinse it in water to remove any algae and put it back on. Works very well.

Just make sure it fits your filter
These pre sponges work just fine overall but are a little bit too short for certain filters. I had one on a filter with a long inlet tube and I had trouble covering the bottom of it with the sponge. There’s always the risk of small fish or shrimp getting sucked into the filter. As long as it fits your tubing, it should be fine

Best foam prefilter!
This is probably the best foam prefilter brand on Amazon in terms of quality and filtration. However, the inner diameter is about 0.7 inches Not the half inch described. You may need a rubber band to keep in place. In my opinion, this foam pre-filter clears up cloudy water better than a protein skimmer and regular filter media. It does slow the water flow after a few days though. But, you can use this slower flow to your advantage by using a UVC sterilizer light in your filter. The slower flow rate will allow your water to be sterilized more efficiently.

Can use with different aquarium filters
I purchased two 3.5 gallon tanks from PetSmart; however I wanted to use one as a hospital tank with minimal flow for any potentially sick fish. Although this pre-filter is designed for use with another filter it fit perfectly on my hospital tank filter. It slows the flow well and doesn’t suck up the fish. I ended up using another one of these over the intake in my 5 gallon shrimp tank. Again it fit perfectly and worked as intended. Make sure you routinely squeeze it out in your old aquarium water because it does get clogged due to the fine filter material.

Good flow, only lasted 2 weeks before I needed to clean the sponge
It’s good for the money but the sponge I had before was better but it isn’t sold anymore, this does fit on the intake of any of the Fluval 07 series. Fits perfectly on the intake nozzle. None of my baby fish got sucked in nor did my shrimp. And my gourami loves looking at the water flow lol.

Fabulous Top Fin Retreat Tank Fix!
The perfect hack for my top fin retreat tank! The pump that came with the tank has a flow meter but no matter what it was always too strong for my bettas. It would immediately push food to the bottom and blow fins on my halfmoon tails. This prefilter sponge still allows for great flow but diffuses it more evenly so my betta can swim around the entire tank without fighting a current. It also filters the water coming from my output. The crappy little pump that came with the tank often gets algae build up and this has helped control that from getting recycled into the tank. It also conveniently catches any uneaten food hanging out on the surface. It is large but the sides of my tank are blacked out with vinyl so it blends in perfectly!

Good quality pre filter sponge and holes are small enough to allow water to pass through but not big enough to allow detritus to pass through. 10/10 functionality.

Good but pricey for the size!

I lost two neon tetra fish this week and was researching around and found this product. Fits perfectly over the top fin pf10 filter. Going to get a couple more little buddies for my lone Ranger that's left. Hopefully it still keeps the tank clean as it goes right over the filter tube, but everyone else seems to say it does so we'll see!
