I’ve used the Master lock portable small lock box locally and on 2 trips, Vegas and Cancun, and I can confidently say it’s one of the smartest purchases I’ve made for protecting my valuables. Whether I’m on the go, at the gym, at the beach, or just need a secure place to stash items in my car, this lock box delivers outstanding performance, durability, and peace of mind. The customizable 4-digit combination lock is easy to set and eliminates the hassle of carrying or potentially losing a key. The locking mechanism feels solid and responsive, giving me confidence that once it’s locked, it’s truly secure. It’s strong enough to deter opportunistic theft and gives me assurance when leaving items unattended in public settings. Don’t be fooled by the term "small" — the interior space is very well-designed. I can comfortably fit my phone, passport, small wallet, keys, and even some jewelry with room to spare. The foam lining inside is a thoughtful touch that prevents my items from shifting around or getting scratched. It’s also a good size for securing medication if needed. This lock box truly shines in its versatility: Beach trips: I loop the cable around a beach chair or inside my beach bag. I can swim without constantly worrying about my phone or car keys being stolen. Hotel stays: Not every hotel has an in-room safe, and this box is a great portable alternative. Car security: I’ve used it to store cash or spare keys in my car when I don’t want to carry them into the gym or on a hike. Airbnb or shared living spaces: It adds an extra layer of security for valuables when you're staying somewhere unfamiliar. The included cable loop is extremely handy — it allows you to secure the box to a fixed object like a bed frame, chair, railing, or inside your trunk. I began running a business out of my home that, quite often, results in our customers stopping by or meeting me somewhere and paying in cash. As business started picking up and I was holding more and more cash at any given time, it occurred to me that the adolescents in my house might not have quite learned the true meaning of a "business" and the ethics that are involved in distinguishing the difference between "Mom and Dad's money" and the "Business's money." Yeah, I know, it's terrible not to be able to trust your own kids, but what can you do? I gave it 4 stars because it functions just fine, and it's nice and compact so you can tuck it just about anywhere. It's a good little safe, and it has a built in security cord so you can tether it to something anchored if you needed to as well. The only reason I took a star off is because the rubber flap that covers up the dial is awkward to hold open when you are trying to work the combination lock, and, honestly, I don't like the color pink. And it is Pepto Bismol pink, no doubt. But I do support Breast Cancer Awareness, and if even a dollar of my purchase went there, then pink it shall be! Plus, for some reason, the pink Breast Cancer Awareness safe was less expensive than the basic black one... Can't figure that math out, but it works for me!

Love this!! 5 stars (dunno why one won't light up) Easy to use and holds small valuables/money. It would have to be smashed with something very heavy to break into - I don't think it could be easily broken into, so it is definitely sturdy, strong and safe. Easily fits into my night table drawer. Small enough to pack into a suitcase for travel. Highly recommend!

Fantastic product. Works great - space for passport, car keys and $’s.

MasterLock calls this a "Portable Safe" in the ad title, but that's stretching it a bit. It's more like a portable locked box than a safe, by any stretch of the imagination. I like its looks & parts of its design, but I don't like the fact that it's made of plastic (polycarbonate?). Although the shell is hard, it's not likely to withstand a hammer, drill, or screwdriver the way that metal would. The box has a rubber-like covering over the four dial combination lock, to "increase weather resistance & conceal the dials from view", but after opening & closing this cover twice, it no longer closes firmly, leaving one side of it partially open (the top side). So much for "increasing weather resistance & conceal the dials from view". All four of the dials on the lock are difficult to roll to the combination & off the combination; they resist movement too much, & are made of plastic without a grip, or much of a detent. Other such locks are rubberized or textured for a better grip, or have deeper detents for a place to put a fingernail. I expected it to be small, but it's actual interior dimensions are smaller than I thought they would be. For example, to give you an idea of the size, you can fit only two boxes of standard cigarettes inside in any formation, & that's pretty small. It might be useful for jewelry, money, an important folded up piece of paper, or other small mementoes, but due to the ease of breaking it open & walking away with this, I wouldn't trust it for anything of real value. MasterLock's packaging leaves something to be desired. It comes in a neat looking, strudy box, with a fold open lid, like a book cover. When you open the lid, one side of this box is visible (the side with the metal design on it). After that, as far as I could tell, you have to rip the box open, not very elegant. A simple opening would be more appropriate. Then, under the lock box, the one-sheet, folded manual is taped to the inside of the box. To remove the tape from the manual (so I could unfold it), the entire front page of the manual was ripped off by the tape. A thoughtless design on the part of MasterLock. For the price, this is not a bad deal, if you have a use for it. It would seem to make a good choice for teaching a child about combination locks, security, & protecting their valuables. For adult usage, I have a hard time figuring out what it could effectively be used for, considering the very small interior & the plastic construction. If it were found in a car, attached underneath a car seat, a thief might do more damage to the car (trying to dislodge the box) than it would be worth to you, in terms of protecting what is inside the box. I also bought the The Club LB200 Personal Vault Security Lock Box , which I've found to cost only a few dollars more, but it is of much better construction & is a larger size, without being too large. The Club LB200 is a much better buy than is this MasterLock box.

I like this box a lot. I feel a lot safer travelling with it. At the airport, it's nice to have my jewelry and passport, extra credit cards, etc. locked up when the lines are long (still carry cash in palms tho). At TSA, bags get stopped or stuck in the machine, and you don't know whose what is being gone through for a few minutes, it's nice to know they couldn't take advantage (not that I suspect that but it has been documented that there are some bad apples out there!). I've never been asked to open the box, so it must be fine to see through. And I like using it during my stays where there might not be a safe. The only thing is that if someone really wanted to steal the whole box, it probably wouldn't be that hard. The wire chain doesn't appear to be super robust.
