However the Singer Making The Cut model S0230 Serger does come pre threaded so that you can tie to the thread ends and pull the thread through to assist with learning to thread correctly. The threading guides are color coded for easy threading. **Q: Does the serger need to be oiled before 1st use?** A: No The Making The Cut model S0230 Serger is pre-lubricated at the factory. However, an overlock machine requires more frequent maintenance than a conventional sewing machine for two reasons: 1) A lot of lint is produced when the cutters are cutting the fabric. 2) An overlock runs at a very high speed and needs to be oiled frequently to lubricate the internal working parts.
