Can these be used on a guitar without any current strap system?

Yes, if you are talking about a solid body guitar. Pre drill pilot holes that are a bit smaller than the threads on the screws to avoid breaking the screws when installing them, and to prevent splitting the wood on your guitar. A good way to determine the right size pilot hole is to hold the drill bit along side the screw. If the bit is about the same size of the shaft of the screw, not including the threads, then you should be good to go. A little soap on the screw threads will make installing them easier too. If the screws don’t go in easily, it might be because your pilot hole is too small, or not deep enough. If you accidentally drill your pilot holes too big, and the screws strip out, you can use a small sliver of wood or cardboard (like a paper match?) and a little wood glue as a shim inside the hole, and then re-install the screws.

These strap buttons appear to be made of plastic. Are they plastic or metal???

just so you know I have been using these for about 30 years. These buttons are made of hard metal they can hold 500 lb max! At least that's what the specs say but they're very tough I've never had one break I've had one pop out of my guitar before maybe once or twice but that was because they were old and worn out they usually last about 5 years and then you can either lube them but they're cheap enough you just buy new ones it's the only brand I've ever used. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM!!!!👌

Can these be added to an acoustic or classical guitar that doesn't have buttons?

Yes. They are buttons just like any other and can be screwed into the tail and neck stock on any acoustic guitar.

Is this only half a set up or complete set up? Do i need anything additional to use these?

Yeah, this is the bass half. I already have the “strap part” and I only use one strap so I needed the “bass part” for my 2nd bass.

They are Dunlop Straploks... no need to sugar coat this.

If you are looking at these you know EXACTLY what they are. They have been the standard for decades now and for good reason, they do exactly what they are supposed to do. Cheap, quick and easy to install and just work without the potential downsides of locking buttons.

Decent swap for black hardware

Nice replacement on my Ibanez s421's switch to blacked out hardware. The screws were thinner than the originals (as well as slightly thinner than all the screws I have in my arsenal of pulled parts) so I had to wrap them in Teflon tape and put a little glue at the tip to be safe. They are a little longer though so there seems to be enough bite. Would have felt better if the screws were normal size. But they seem to work. They are good looking. I don't think they lock the straps any better than a regular strap plug so I'm not sure what the Locking part is about, but at the end of the day they're strap lugs and they work.

My fiancé had a new Thunderbird bass guitar that had absolutely atrocious neck dive. Every time he'd take his hands off the guitar, the neck would plummet to hang about a foot off the floor. Got this strap lock yesterday and installed it just behind the neck. Installation was simple to do with only a drill, and took less than 5 minutes. Now his Thunderbird hangs in place when he's not actively holding it, and he's already feeling reduced neck strain from how unbalanced it felt to play.
