It Protects My Teeth From Grinding While I Sleep
I grind my teeth when I sleep. I have had to have 2 root canals on teeth that have cracked due to my grinding them. This dental guard does a very god job of preventing the teeth of my upper jaw from coming into direct contact with the teeth of my lower jaw. I gave it 4 stars for comfort because it is not totally comfortable out of the package. It takes getting used to. You need to give it a fair chance. But after using it for a week, I got used to it. The SleepRight Ultra-Comfort Dental Guard has worked so well for me that I am on my second guard now.

A MUST for Bruxers!!!
I brux so loudly that I wake my partner often. I also have TMJ. So these are a GODSEND!!!! Many decades ago I had a VERY expensive one made by a doctor. I've had another doctor try to give me one that is like a football player's mouth guard. I GAG! I spit them out at night. I can't wear them! The Splintek is SO much more comfortable. I gave it a 4 for comfort because there is a spot where it rubs the gums a bit... but it's worth it to me! I've also had it embedded in the inside of my cheeks in the morning. I think that's my fault from whatever I'm doing with my mouth at night and so I won't blame the product. I got one of these when they first came out and had only one option. It was GREAT for MANY years. It never broke nor did I bite through, but it did wear down after 10+ years. When they started selling them in the stores, I went ahead and bought another at a retail store. It promised to last longer. I really hate it. It's Splintek also, but the things between the teeth are SO HARD that they made my teeth hurt in the morning. There was no give. So I ordered this one that promises "comfort" and I love it! I love that it's adjustable. I love that it doesn't make me gag. I love that it protects my teeth from my grinding. I love that I don't have headaches in the morning when I wear it because it protects me jaw from all of the pressure from the grinding. I love that it helps "train" the muscles to keep a bit of distance between my teeth. I also have a bad habit of biting my lips, especially while in the car. So I love that I can wear this and it keeps me from biting. After some time I heal and will stop, but anytime stress picks back up I can use this to re-break that bad habit. For ME... this is a must-have and this one works the best.

Not recommended
The mouth guard left sores in my cheeks and caused more jaw pain. The pads that fit between the teeth are super hard and flat and do not provide any comfort. Over all the minimalist design could have been great, but the device really needs to mold to the teeth. I do not recommend.

The Unofficial Guide to All Four SleepRight Dental Guards
Through trial and error, I ended up using all four versions of the SleepRight dental guards. Splin-Tek's website provides minimal guidance, so here are my findings: Select-Comfort is the least expensive version. The bite pads adjust forwards and backwards but do not pivot. The bite pads are somewhat soft though not flimsy. If you do not need to use a dental guard frequently, this might be a good option. The pivoting bite pads provide significantly better comfort, though. Dura-Comfort guards fit larger than the other three versions. I did not know this until I found it did not work for me. The bite pads are slightly thicker and supposedly more durable. This guard has large "wings" that extend over the top of the gum to hold them in better. I found the wings were too large and dug into my gums and cheeks. This is probably the best version for those with larger mouths. Secure-Comfort guards have bite pads that are similar, perhaps slightly more durable than the Ultra-Comfort. This guard uses smaller wings when compared to the Dura-Comfort. I found the wings tended to catch my cheeks between the wing and gum. This guard wears similarly to something between the Select-Comfort and the Ultra-Comfort guard. It works well with my medium-sized mouth and was reasonably comfortable. Ultra-Comfort guards have no wings but the bite pads do swivel. The bite pads are more durable than the Select-Comfort and are similar to the Secure-Comfort bite pads, perhaps ever-so slightly less durable. I find this guard works best for me, but the sides can sometimes cut into my cheeks and the bite pads do not always stay secure—but their lower profile (when compared to the Dura- and Secure-Comfort guards) works better for me. The strap that goes around the front seems similar to the Secure-Comfort guard. NOTE: Keep that paper instruction manual and the original box! It has a form for exchange or refund. Splin-Tek WILL exchange your guard if it does not fit well! I threw mine out the first two times and could have saved the cost of buying them. Tip: Use a toothbrush (without toothpaste) to quickly clean off your guard after removing it and before storing it. Be sure to brush off the front loop, too. This extends the life of the guard significantly. I add toothpaste to clean the guard once each week. The guard does not yellow as quickly and it does not get as stinky either. These are all very good dental guards. I tend to grind my back molars—this might help you understand how the guards work for me. A custom-fit guard is the ultimate solution, but I have used both custom-fit and generic guards (including the ones which are heated up and then fitted) and these SleepRight mouth guards are the best cost/performance solution I have found. Good luck finding the right guard for you!

It didn't last anywhere close to the warranty period
This is a good fit to avoid teeth grinding. This is my 3rd mouth piece I purchased however with a 2 year warranty you would think it would last close to that time frame. Mine didn't even last 6 months. I purchased it in May this year. It's now September already and I can't use it. It ripped in the middle and not usable.

One of the best mouthguards around
I've been using this mouth guard for about 5 years now (this exactly model) and I'm a very happy customer. The instructions inside tell you how to hold the guard in your mouth when you're sleeping, which to me was a revelation since I was biting down to keep it "in place" not realizing this defeats the purpose of having the mouth guard. I love that I don't have to boil it and swallow all that plastic water - not sure how safe that is. I like that the bitewings are adjustable. You may experience some irritation in your lower front gums but it should go away once you get used to it. I usually replace mine after 8 months, all you need to do is look at the bitewings and see how hard you've bitten down to see if you need to replace it. These types of guards are an excellent value for your money since if you get it from the dentist you'd pay $300 or more for a "permanent" one.

Can't Sleep Without It
Love this!!! I have used several night guards, and this is by far the best!! Don't wait just buy it. I now own several one for my suitcase, one for our camper and one for home. Use straight out of the package and is beyond comfortable, not needing to mold to your teeth. Fit perfectly and for the cost it's the best value I have seen. Talk about durable, my original is a year old and still works perfectly fine. Cleaning is easy just place in a bowl with some denture cleaner and it will do the work for you.

Not as comfortable as origial product design.
Not particularly thrilled with this Sleep Right dental guard model. Although it seems to be a little more durable than the original model, it is not as comfortable, has sharp edges on the inner bite plates, and too much swivel movement. I used this model for about 2 weeks and decided to go back to the original (Select Comfort (3x) - which I've been sleeping with for a little over a year. I love the overall product design due to its openness and not having a guard fully encapsulating teeth. The open design allows saliva to circulate and be swallowed rather than pooling around teeth leading to cavity issues. The Select Comfort 3x is superior in comfort but may only last about a month or two if you have extreme clenching or grinding issues (as I do). Not a fan of the Ultra Comfort 4x.
